THE HISTORY OF MARRIAGE ISLAND DATES BACK TO 1691, WHERE

THE SPANISH MISSIONARY, FATHER DAMIAN MASSANET,

CONDUCTED THE FIRST CATHOLIC MASS ON JUNE 13.

OVER 100 YEARS AGO, A CYPRESS TREE WAS PLANTED IN THAT SPACE,

AND OVER TIME THE ROOTS OF THIS TREE HAVE FORMED A SMALL

ISLAND THAT EXTENDS OUT INTO THE CALM WATERS OF THE RIVER

WALK. THE REMOVAL OF THIS ISLAND WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN

PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE TREE, CONSEQUENTLY THE CITY OF SAN

ANTONIO DETERMINED TO LEAVE ITS ROOTS IN PLACE. THIS ISLAND

HAS COME TO BE KNOWN AS MARRIAGE ISLAND. IT IS LOCATED IN

FRONT OF THE HOTEL CONTESSA AND IS A POPULAR DESTINATION

FOR LIVELY AND FESTIVE WEDDINGS.

ONCE IT HAS BEEN SET. THE HOTEL WILL GLADLY HANG ANY BANNERS THAT YOUR REQUIRE FOR YOUR EVENT AT A FEE

OF $50.00 PER BANNER AND POST THIS COST TO YOUR ACCOUNT. PLEASE NOTIFY THE HOTEL IN ADVANCE SO THAT

PROPER ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE TO HANG BANNERS. THE HOTEL WILL NOT PERMIT THE AFFIXING OF ANYTHING

TO THE WALLS, FLOOR OR CEILINGS WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL FROM HOTEL MANAGEMENT. THE HOTEL DOES NOT

ALLOW ANY SIGNAGE TO BE DISPLAYED IN THE MAIN LOBBY OR PUBLIC AREAS.

PARKINGHOTEL CONTESSA OFFERS VALET PARKING FOR A $17.00 DAILY FEE / $36.00 OVERNIGHT FEE.

PARKING IS LIMITED AND BASED ON AVAILABILITY AND THEREFORE NOT GUARANTEED FOR ALL GUESTS. SELF PARKING IS ALSO AVAILABLE AT MULTIPLE CITY PARKING LOTS AND GARAGES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA.
