Modernism / ConceptTo extend the theories put forward in my essay visually

Japan x EuropeEurope x Japan

The main concept of the publication is to visually reinforce the theories and discussion of my essay

Japanese and European modernist Graphic Design are similar yet so different and want to visually inform this through interactivity. Rather than talk about visual characteristics, I will also show them.

Applying theory into practice

Recreating Japanese design in the European style

Recreating European design in a Japanese style

I will pick and choose 3-5 examples of European modernism and Japanese modernism and recreate in each others style

How different would classic pieces of design have been in each others hands?

01

Publication / Research2 books within one package / publication:

Japan x Europe /Europe x Japan

Fold-out posters are basis of the products

The publications/split layouts will have strikingly different layouts and colour palettes to emphasise the different design backgrounds (Japan/Europe)

Each book or split personality of the publication will be a Japanese take on European design and an European take on Japanese design

I have looked into binding methods, layout opportunities and possibilities of creating a package from two booklets in a creative and interactive manner.

3-5 memorable pieces of design will be chosen from Japan & Europe which will be cross-examined and designed in each others style.

Outlining consistent characteristics and themes of the design and culture

Print / ProcessCombining two books and two design styles into one package

Perfect bound book / Tipped out sections / Variety of stocks / Variety of scales / Variety of design styles

The primary issue to address when producing this booklet is which binding method to adopt

Should there be separate publications for each side of design or should it be one publication?

How do I create interactive/fold-out posters within the publication?
