Intended Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of this module, students should be able to:1) Describe the place of museums within different societies and their relationships to other institutions, organisations andagencies.2) Assess how wider agenda, policy formation and current museum thinking are impacting upon museums and galleries.3) Critically discuss different histories and discourses concerning museums and galleries.4) Critically engage with the changing contemporary and social role of museums and galleries.5) Articulate personal and professional values, positions, expertise and opportunities for leadership and development inrelation to a changing professional sector.

Teaching and Learning MethodsLectures: Lectures and other types of teaching sessions will be typically delivered online through recordings, discussion, learning activities, and readings. All of the lectures and activities will be framed through an online study guide. The timeallotted to Lectures covers the time it would take to work through the study guide sessions, activities and discussions.

Seminars: This module builds in time for students to prepare for and engage in one online seminar. This is a live sessionsdelivered online. While the content is core, there is flexibility in how these seminars are delivered to accommodate for diversestudent circumstances and time zones. Alternative material (transcripts, recorded session, reading and activities) will beavailable to all students, so those who are unable to attend can still access these seminars in an asynchronous way.

Tutorials: Students are expected to build a relationship with their Module Tutor during the course of this module, via emailand/or skype. Their Module Tutor can advise them on their module work and the planning, preparation and presentation oftheir assignment. Time for 2-3 tutorials is built in to the module.

Fieldwork: This captures the time students will be expected to visit museums, galleries and other relevant sites in the field inresponse to the tasks and activities in the study guide. There will be 1-2 self-directed study visits as part of this module.
