Career Impact

I am a geoscientist interested in research and education in structural geology, geophysical applications, and geospatial information sciences. My research focuses on the tectonic evolution of extensional regimes, orogenic belts and morpho-tectonics. My research has been supported by the Petroleum Industry, National Science Foundation (NSF), and National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) with a total of ~4.5 million dollars (~50% share). Results of my research are presented in 77 publications (58 peer-reviewed), 84 invited presentations, and 166 abstracts with a total citation index of 1674 and an h-index of 24 (Scopus, January, 2017). I taught over 70 classes in the geosciences and geospatial information sciences with an average student’s evaluation of 4.4/5 at UT Dallas (August 2000 – July 2006), 3.0/4 at Missouri S&T (August 2006 – May 2012) and 4.5/5 at Oklahoma State University (August 2012 – December 2015). Besides, I have mentored 8 PhD and 11 MS students to successfully complete their graduate degrees. Currently, I am supervising and co-supervising 5 PhD and 2 MS students. I served as the Geosciences Graduate Advisor at UT Dallas between August 2005 and August 2006, the Geology and Geophysics Graduate Coordinator at Missouri S&T between September 2006 and May 2009, and I have been serving as the Geology Graduate Advisor at Oklahoma State University since July 2013. Additionally, I have been active in the US and African geoscientific communities. I served as proposal evaluator and manuscript reviewer for many national and international funding agencies and journals. I served as the President of the Geological Society of Africa between 2001 and 2004, and currently I am an associate editor of the Journal of African Earth Sciences, and editorial board member of the journal of International Geology Review. I was elected a fellow of the Geological Society of America in May 2008 and a fellow of the Geological Society of Africa in November 2008. I received the Missouri S&T Faculty Excellence Award in December 2008.
