Distributed I/O and controlModicon MomentumFlexible system fordistributed I/O and control
Controller and IP20 monobloc I/O for distributed control architecture
Simply Smart!Leveraging ingenuityand intelligence for ease of use.
Modicon MomentumA proven, flexible solution.Modicon Momentum is a range of proven control system and I/O compo-
nents — I/O modules, control processors, network adapters and option
adapters — that has been solving a wide range of customer applications for
many years. The key to its success? Momentum easily adapts to your needs,
whether simply as an I/O solution, as part of a distributed control solution, or
even as independent, standalone control in smaller applications.
Flexible system designThe Momentum system includes four fundamental components thateasily snap together in various combinations to form versatile controlsystems or sub-systems.
I/O basesThe I/O base provides the foundation for the rest of the Momentum system andserves as the mounting base for communication adapters, processors or optionadapters — which all snap onto the I/O module. In addition to providing I/Ocapability, the base also includes the power supply for I/O module circuits andadapters.
Communication adaptersThe Momentum system offers a wide selection of communication adapters that snaponto any of the I/O modules, creating a truly open I/O system that can be easilyadapted to many popular fieldbus networks. Communication adapters are availablefor Ethernet, Modbus Plus, Fipio, INTERBUS, Profibus DP, and DeviceNet.
Processor adaptersThere are currently 10 Momentum processor adapters available, ranging fromthose for local control of a single I/O module, to models with a built-in distrib-uted communication port, Modbus TCP/IP-Ethernet communication and embed-ded web pages, capable of servicing up to 8192 points of I/O.
Option adaptersOption Adapters provide additional networking capabilities to the processors, aswell as a time-of-day clock and battery back up. The Option Adapter also snapsonto the I/O base, with a Processor Adapter mounted on top.

Compact and cost-effective distributed I/OMomentum I/O modules provide a compact solution for both discrete and analogI/O applications in a compact block style form factor. The wide range of I/O modulesand communication adapters enable you to use them with a number of head-endhost and master devices, including other Schneider Automation PLCs, competitivePLCs, and open control systems that use a PC or proprietary controller.
Wiring from field devices to intermediate terminals in central panels or from terminalblocks to I/O modules in large racks require significant time and expense to install.Momentum eliminates terminal blocks and long wire runs by allowing you to putI/O modules close to sensors and actuators.
Optimize control solution for small standalone applicationsA standalone control system utilizes a single Momentum processor with dedicatedlocal and/or distributed I/O. Momentum is ideally suited for standalone control systemapplications where I/O requirements do not exceed 32 Discrete or 16 Analog pointsin a single location. When your I/O requirements exceed these levels or when thereis more than one I/O location, there are other Momentum processors which includean integrated distributed I/O communication port (I/O Bus), enabling support of upto 128 I/O modules and 4096 I/O in a system.
Versatile distributed control Distributed control allows you to split the control function between multiple con-trollers as opposed to having a single centralized controller. With the Momentumsystem, the control of an application can be divided between multiple Momentumprocessors, each dedicated to controlling an operation or section of a process.Momentum processors can use either Modbus Plus or Ethernet communicationnetworks to connect all of the processors, providing a high-speed link to exchangeinterlocks, status, and operational data.
Benefits of distributing control with Momentum:
• Simplified system integration, programming, and maintenance
• Easier system expansion
• Flexibility in manufacturing operations where machines and processes areadded/ removed to meet production needs
• More agile manufacturing systems — Modbus Plus and Ethernet allow entirecontrol programs to be downloaded, enabling changes in processes andoperations to be made quickly and reliably

The power of web technologies right in your PLCLike other Transparent Ready™ products from Telemecanique, the Momentum M1E Processor Adapter utilizes Ethernet Modbus TCP/IP as its communicationsbackbone and delivers the performance benefits of real-time control with the ease of use of the Internet. Plus, it enables communications over a single plant-wide network (Ethernet) so you don’t need any proprietary networks or an expert to configure and maintain them.
Embedded Ethernet for real-time controlEthernet communications on the Momentum M1E makes real-time control overEthernet a reality. Functionality includes:
• Standard 10BaseT connection and Modbus TCP/IP communications
• Reading/writing of discrete data, diagnostics, and registers
• Full program upload/download capability
This functionality makes M1E processors ideal for control applications that requiredata acquisition, peer-to-peer communications between multiple M1E’s, and I/Oscanning.
Embedded web pages for easy data accessMomentum M1E processors include an embedded web server with five pre-configured web pages that provide information on the control system’s configurationand operation.
These embedded web pages report real time information on processor status andlocal I/O module points and are easily accessible via any standard web browser. You can also load custom web pages into the M1E processor using the availableWeb Loader Utility.
• Web pages are accessible using standard web browsers, making them easyto access and navigate.
• They provide real-time production information from anywhere on the network, delivering data and information where and when it is needed to ensure youroperation is running at peak efficiency.
• They enable direct access to detailed product information through a directInternet link to the product technical support web site.
• The M1E processor is available in 4 configurations to match your systemrequirements (Ethernet + Interbus I/O Bus port, or Ethernet + RS-485 Modbusport) and your preferred programming environment (IEC or 984 LL).
ConneXium™, for all your Ethernet networking needsWith the ConneXium family of industrially hardened network hubs, transceivers, bridges, switches and cables, Telemecanique can provide you with integratedEthernet solutions to unite everything between the device level, control network, and corporate intranet.
