This course is for those who work or live with individuals who exhibit behaviours of concern in community settings such as residential care facilities, schools, or special education settings. This course will provide you with an introduction to positive behaviour support; an evidence based approach to addressing behaviours of concern. You will learn how to conduct functional assessment and analysis, and use the information derived from this to prepare a positive behaviour support plan incorporating function-based interventions. This course is relevant to social workers, teachers, psychologists, integration aides, school leaders, parents of children with disabilities, and staff in residential care facilities. Topics Foundations of positive behaviour support A functional approach to understanding behaviours Preparing positive behaviour support plans Evaluating effectiveness of interventions Ethical issues and future directions Course Length Two day classes of six hours and twenty hours of self-paced study. Self paced study will include online learning, field work and data analysis. Angelika Anderson is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Education involved in training psychologist (Education and Developmental) and teaching Applied Behaviour Analysis in both the Graduate Diploma and the Masters of Psychology programs.
