Dear families,

We have been thrilled to welcome back all of our students across years P-6 last week. With the school abuzz, students have been enthusiastically

learning and were delighted to be able to play with their peers once again at school. We extend a big thank you to all of our families for your patience

and compliance in maintaining social distancing in the vicinity of the school grounds.

This week we have made the very difficult decision to cancel our 2020 whole school production of Shrek the Musical. This is in line with the DET

Operational Guidelines we must abide with. Miss Petrie and Mr Hale will continue working with students to record and distribute a ‘Best of Shrek’

compilation CD created by our students. This was not a decision that we took lightly, as was the decision to postpone our 2020 Visual Arts Show until

2021. We have also had our school photos booked in and rescheduled several times thus far for 2020. Current DET Operational Guidelines do not

permit school photos to go ahead but, in the coming weeks this may change. We will keep families up to date with this directive as we would obviously

prefer to have these take place.

Rather than our regular school camp program across years 2-6, this year we will only be proceeding with a year 5/6 school sleepover and excursion

extravaganza. Year 5/6 students have undertaken a self-directed inquiry whereby they plan, organise, budget and book all activities under supervision

of their classroom teacher. There are many valuable real life skills they are developing alongside 100% ownership of the itinerary that is being

formulated. We have decided this option to be the best course of action do take considering the timeline between now and the end of the year and to

minimise financial pressure on our families.

This Friday the 16th of October, we welcome our 2021 prep students to Queenscliff Primary School for their first onsite transition sessions. In line with

DET Operational Guidelines, there will be a maximum of 10 future students onsite for each session which will be staggered throughout the day. We

regret to inform that parents/carers will be unable to be onsite at this transition sessions but we will have our annual future parent/teacher/principal

meetings throughout November via Zoom.

We ask all families to please demonstrate caution when driving and parking in the vicinity of the school. All staff have made a commitment not to park

in any car spaces that adjoin the school. When parking in Stokes Street (opposite the school) we ask that all families show caution when opening car

doors. One of our staff member’s cars was significantly damaged by a stray car door last week when parked at the end of the parking line of staff cars.

Local laws officers contacted us last week to ask us to kindly remind all families not to park in the disabled park unless you hold a current permit and

not to stop in the no standing zone, bus zones or within the crossing flags. They advised us that they will continue to monitor the parking situations

and will issue fines of $165.00 for parking offences. A reminder also to please adhere to the 40km zone around Queenscliff Kindergarten, Queenscliff

Primary School and St Aloysius Primary School.

We have had two snake sightings on the rail trail path over the past two days in close proximity to both the school and the kinder. At this stage, there have been no sightings on either properties. Today, we engaged a snake catcher who visited both the school and the kinder to identify any potential snake risks, advise of any further clearing or tidying as well as have a general scout for any evidence of snakes’ attendance on each site. This was informative and no evidence of snakes on either site was identified. We ask all families to speak with your children about potential snake risks and the best course of action to take should a snake be encountered. Our teaching staff have discussed this with all students today. Both the school and kinder will take appropriate actions should a snake be sighted at either facility. If anyone happens to see another snake in our proximity please call us at the kinder or the school. We would like to remind all families that Queenscliff Primary School students have TWO public holidays this term. These are Friday 23rd October

(Grand Final) and Tuesday 3rd November (Melbourne Cup). Queenscliff Primary School DOES NOT get Geelong Cup and therefore this is a regular day at

school with all students and staff onsite in attendance.

Back to school : A reminder to return all our readers, library books and Marc Van books, back to school after our remote learning during term 3. School hats are required for term 4, please don’t forget them as the children will have to spend snack and lunch under the shade if they aren’t wearing one. Hats are available for purchase at the office if required. Bus Service : McHarry’s bus service is operating as normal. Please find attached a copy of the bus route and time table. Medications : Children with medication requirements will need to have their medications returned to school for Term 4. If your child has an asthma plan, please check that your plan is up to date as these plans need to be renewed each year. Lost property: We have a very large collection of lunch boxes and drink bottles that have been collected from around the school. These items will be at the front of the school on a table during the day with all the lost items of clothing Winston’s new family: Winston is settling into his new home beautifully, he is the proud father of a new little chicken called Lucky. Lucky’s mum Vader is looking after Lucky and keeping her out of trouble. Thank you Oscar for the photos.

Parking: The Queenscliff Local Laws Officers dropped off to Kylie on Tuesday morning some new PPE. While the officers were here they became aware of parking issues at the front of the school during school drop off. They have requested that we advise families of the Local Law fines for parking offences:

Parking in a ‘No Standing’, ‘Accessible Parking ’ and a ‘Flagged Children Crossing’ Zone incurs a $165 Fine Parking in a Bus Zone between the designated times will incur a $78 fine.

Please be aware of these parking restrictions as we don’t want any families fined. All school staff no longer park around the perimeter of the school to allow families parking access for safe drop off and pick up.

School Drop Off: Please remember that children are not to be dropped off at school before 8.30am as there is no supervision for students before that time.

School Crossing: Please remind your children to use the crossing when crossing Stevens Street. Drink Bottles: Please remember to send a drink bottle with your child to school, as we have noticed a lot of children go-ing to the kitchen to get cups of water. Laptops and Charges: Can we please check at home for any laptop chargers and laptops that need to be returned to school. DET Operational Guidelines In accordance with these guidelines, parents and carers are not permitted within the school. Queenscliff Community Market Update

The Queenscliffe Community Market committee sends a huge thank you to the QPS community for your energy and commitment towards the running of the 19/20 Market season. It’s been a year of surprises with the Twilight Market rescheduled due to the bushfire emergency, followed by the cancellation of the March – May markets due to the Covid 19 State of Emergency in Victoria. An unusual market season, to say the least. Despite these challenges it has been another successful season. Here’s some of the highlights: 1. Raising over $3,000 for the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal at the Twilight market. 2. Improvement of the amenities at the Pavilion with the upgrade of the toilet facilities to access for all. A joint project with Queenscliff Music Festival. 3. Transition of the key QPS volunteers who manage the market administration. The QCM committee and QPS have worked together since 2008 to deliver the Queenscliff Community Market from September to May every year. Following a brief respite from the State of Emergency, Victoria moved to a State of Disaster on 3rd August, 2020. After consideration of the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, and the public health measures in place to minimise its spread, we have made the difficult decision to NOT hold any QCM markets before January 2021. Hopefully by this date COVID-19 will have stabilised. In making this decision we want to ensure the safety of volunteers, customers, and stall holders, as well as develop a robust COVID-19 plan for QCM days. The members of the QCM Committee and the QPS are committed to the stay home, stay safe message. Planning for the return of the market has commenced and it is our intention to confirm the processes and start date of the 2020-2021 season, by the end of November 2020. In the words of Steve Poltz “We’re in it for the long haul” and plan to deliver another successful, if shortened, market season providing quality homemade, local produce and goods. Term 4: MARC Literacy and Library Newsletter

Welcome back to MARC for term 4! It has been wonderful to reconnect with staff, students and their families again after remote learning in term 3. I am very excit-ed to be back teaching in each school setting! During remote learning, I really enjoyed creating literacy lessons based on more familiar and unique texts for the children. I tried to make online learning as engaging, creative and stimulating as possible, while also trying to connect children to their own enjoyment of reading preferences. I cannot wait to share some new fiction, non-fiction and Picture Sto-ry books with the children this term. In term 4, we have the CBCA Book Week to look forward to (October 17-23). Dur-ing this week, classroom teachers and teacher librarians celebrate Australian Children’s Authors and illustrators. The theme for Book Week this year is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. For Book Week in MARC, we will explore the range of shortlisted books through a range of cre-ative approaches to literacy from P-6. MARC literacy activities for Book Week and beyond will aim to engage children’s ‘wild minds’ and natu-ral sense of curiosity to innovate and bring into existence a ‘Wild and Curious Creatures’ to develop their sense of authorship. Through an examination of the CBCA shortlisted books, we will examine the creative processes, influences and in-spirations that authors engage in to author their own imaginative texts. We will continue to draw inspiration from a range of new and unique texts, authors and illustrators to draw thematic connections between our own reading experiences, surrounding world and imaginative potential. This will be the last term of MARC for the year. Thank you all for taking such good care of your MARC library books during remote learning. It is time to return these books to the van. Notices will go out to classroom teacher and students as a gentle reminder. If you are unable to find a book dur to the remote learning dura-tion, please let your classroom teacher know.
