Marloo Boss Of The Cross Mulwaree turned on the top weather for the 2013 Cross Country Carnival.

Once again the 17 + Age group started proceedings with our senior boys and girls setting the standard for the day. Lizzie Bradley and Bede Adam led the charge with some electric times. The 16’s boys was won convincingly by Kyle Collings, with Amy Parry blitzing the field in the girls. Perennial age group winner Josh Webber won the 15’s boys whilst Sophie Davis won the girls, demonstrating her time in the PowerGym is working wonders. In the 14s boys, Tom Menzies fought a tough battle to come out the victor, with Sarah Waters beating home a talent ridden field in the girls event. The 13’s girls winner was no surprise, with soccer starlet Phoebi Clissold demonstrating superior cardio-vascular endurance over her field. Warwick

Lang continued his age group dominance, smashing the 14’s boys event. The 12 yrs girls was highlighted with some very fast times. Shaela Velstra surprised many of her peers by taking out this event and Dan “The Man” Hopkins produced one of the quickest 12’s boys times in history. I would like to pass on a huuuuuuuge congratulations to our runners who qualified for the Zone Championships and all students for their participation and behaviour when they were competing in their race or relaxing/

preparing on the Mulwaree Green. I would also like to thank all of the Mulwaree staff for helping to make the Cross Country Carnival run as smoothly as possible! Congratulations to all of our Age Champions and MARLOO for winning this year’s carnival. The Zone Carnival was on Friday 17th May at Mulwaree. Stay tuned for the zone report!! Mr Stevenson

Goss From The Boss

As we move towards the holidays it is worth visiting the business of the school at this time. Our staff have been extremely busy writing reports for Years 7 to 9. Whilst it is a very important responsibility, report writing can be arduous and very time consuming. Staff put in many hours ensuring that our communication with parents are

effective and that we report on our students’ achievement in the best possible way. Last Friday I had the pleasure of having lunch with 100 Year 8, 9 and 10 students at the Goulburn Chinese Restaurant in Market Street. This was a part of a linkage program with the Australian National University Ambassador Program. Our students spent the day with the ANU ambassadors learning about Indonesian and Chinese culture. My thanks to Mr Wardle and Ms Guo for their efforts in organising this very worthwhile activity. Friday also saw our first Senior Social. A different timeslot and a different format meant that the social was a great success. Mrs Cranston and Mr Armstrong and the SRC are to be congratulated for looking for ways to support students at Mulwaree High School. A good night was had by all. Our next edition of the Mulwaree News will be our last for Term 2. It will be a bumper issue showing what we are doing around the school. I look forward to the final 2 weeks of term being positive and enjoyable. Mr Purcell Principal

Chappo’s Thought For The Week How accepting are you? Gladys Hunt writes: “Acceptance means you’re valuable just as you are. You aren’t forced into someone else’s idea. You can talk about how you feel and why, and someone really cares. You can try out ideas without being shot down. You can even express heretical thoughts and discuss them with intelligent questioning. You feel safe. No one will pronounce judgement, even though they don’t agree with you. It doesn’t mean you’ll never be corrected, it simply means it’s safe to be you.” If this meaning of acceptance was applied to you, how would you rate?

Exemption from School. Principals may grant an exemption from school for exceptional domestic circumstances, family holidays and the health of a student. If your child will be absent from school due to a family holiday, extended

sickness or exceptional domestic reasons please contact the school in order to apply for a Certificate of Exemption. An exemption form may be picked up from the front office. When a Certificate of Exemption is applied for and granted, school absences that occur over the exemption period are not recorded on your child’s absentee records.

Congratulations to (back row) Amy Parry, Jarrod Twaddell, Bede Adam, (front row) Daniel Hopkins and Lewis Golding. These young people have competed very strongly at the Regional Cross Country and made it through to the South Coast Cross Country team to compete at Eastern Creek in Term 3 at the NSW CHS Cross Country. Well done and good luck to you all.

Year 10 Reminder Options Night Tuesday 18th June 7 - 8pm in the Hall. You will receive your prospectus at the Options Night for your subject selection for Years 11 and 12.

like to bring the donations to the store after hours

Meet The Teacher Mr Wardle - Deputy Principal What subjects can you teach? Indonesian, French and English. What was your first job? Assisting in a Butcher Shop on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. What is your favourite food? Seafood. What is the most

international place you have travelled to? The most international place I have travelled to is Indonesia. I have travelled extensively throughout Java and Bali and studied at the University of Satya Wacana in Salatiga, Central Java. What did you want to be when you were younger? Veterinary Surgeon Why did you become a teacher? I became a teacher as I had a passion for languages. I studies Latin and French at school, and Indonesian, French, English and Linguistics at the University of Sydney. I really enjoyed helping children realise their ambitions. Who do you most admire and why? The person I most admire is Professor Chris O’Brien. Chris was my School Captain. He became an extremely caring and compassionate Doctor in his chosen field of head and thoracic surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Chris’ excellent interpersonal skills and his gift to lead, motivate and inspire groups of colleagues had a significant impact at RPA. Chris was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour in November, 2006. His own battle with cancer was a tragedy. However, he and his wife Gail, transformed his personal affliction into a national opportunity. Chris envisaged an integrated cancer treatment centre so that patients would no longer have to deal with their illness alone. Chris’ spirit lives on through his wife, Gail. Her energy and determination will ensure the realisation of Chris’ dream to build “Lifehouse” at RPA, a facility that will transform the experience of cancer patients and their families. “Lifehouse “ will be opened this year.
