Vol II No: 349 (Vol 1 concluded 523) 1 June 2011 PRAYER A new month brings us the opportunity to bless time. Lord of all good things, bless: The time we share with our families. The time we pray in church, at home or at school. The time we spend in helping others. The time we go about our daily tasks, that it may be well spent. The time we spend relaxing, that it may be refreshing. The time that, in all things, we appreciate the gift of life. Generous God, we are grateful for the many blessings you give us. Keep us mindful of these gifts and help us to be generous in using them for the good of all. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. These results portrayed this College’s academic pursuits in a very positive light and confirmed our position as one of the leading Rockhampton schools in a very competitive educational market. Most pleasing was the continuation of high percentages of students from Year 12 seeking higher education and receiving offers from universities to take up places. There was also evidence to suggest our vocational pathways are proving successful in linking students with employment. I was very impressed to see, that of nineteen apprentices recently hired by local firm JM Kelly, four were ex -TCC students. Of course, none of this makes any sense unless we continue to open student’s minds to the need to be loving people who respect others and have values that enable them to know right from wrong. This is the value of a Catholic school that cannot be measured or calculated. GRANDPARENTS’ MORNING TEA It was great to see so many grandparents of Year 8s able to attend the function last Friday. They were well looked after by grandchildren and our catering students. The entertainment, fresh from the eisteddfod, was of a high standard. NEW TRANSLATION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL In order to make our celebration of the Eucharist a deeper experience, some responses we give at Mass will change as of Pentecost Sunday, 12 June. Most people will find this quite simple to adapt to, but the parishes are providing pew cards to help guide us initially. Bullarama Planning Meeting Monday 6 June 6.30pm TCC Staffroom

PRAYER  A new month brings us the opportunity to bless time.

Amen.

BISHOP’S HOUSE 100 YEAR CELEBRATION On behalf of the College, we wish Bishop Brian Heenan and all staff well as they prepare for celebrations on Friday. Some staff and students will attend a Mass at Noon on this day to join in the festivities. All of us should be proud of this iconic building and its rich history. RED SHIELD APPEAL Our seventy students, staff and parents collected around $5000 from doorknocking efforts last Saturday. Well done. Congratulations to the Salvation Army on a well organised event and thank you for the great work you do in our community. Mr Rob Alexander (Principal) From the DEPUTY PRINCIPAL Last week I published the exam timetable for Years 10, 11 and 12. This is also available on the College web site under “News and Events”. Students are reminded to be there 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the exam in full uniform. Year 10 students all have a Maths exam on Friday 17 June concluding at 11am. Year 10 students are not expected to attend classes after this exam on Friday and may leave the school at 11am if all other work is complete. Year 10 classes will continue as timetabled until the close of school on Thursday 16 June and all Year 10 students are expected to attend classes until then. Year 11 and Year 12 students will only be expected to attend school during the exam period when they have an exam scheduled and if they have no other outstanding work. The TCC and St Paul’s Bullarama is on Saturday 23 July this year – see today’s brochure. I will be asking for parents and family members to volunteer their time to assist in the College’s main fundraiser in next week’s newsletter. If you can help give a couple of hours in the set up, on the evening or the pack up on Sunday morning, please contact me at school. A reminder to any students leaving the College to attend another school that all materials, including the College laptop, must be returned to the College before leaving and that parents/carers should notify the College of the removal of the student so that fees may be adjusted accordingly. This week I will be working on the Semester 2 timetable to ensure all students are well prepared for the start of the new semester. Students are reminded that subject changes are only available if there is room in the other nominated subject. Students may be asked to keep the subjects they selected due to staffing and class size considerations. Mr Gerard Raven From the ASSISTANT TO THE PRINCIPAL - STUDENTS PUNCTUALITY: The College day commences at 8.25am with all students expected to be in class by 8.35am. Students who arrive after 8.35am are required to report to the Student Counter to collect their late note. House Deans will then interview students and may require the time to be made up in afternoon detentions. Parents are asked to supply a note when their child is late explaining the reason. UNIFORM MATTERS: It is an expectation that all boys will wear their College tie correctly in Terms II and III. Parents/Caregivers are asked to ensure that the formal school shirt has a top button and it is able to be ‘done up’. The tie will then cover to top button. Boys who wear their tie poorly will be challenged and a consequence imposed. Mr Stephen Parle From the ASSISTANT TO THE PRINCIPAL - MISSION TCC/Parish Mass: Thank you to all who attended the TCC/Parish Mass on Saturday evening. Congratulations to Jemah Thomas, Jeandre McCusker, Laura Watts, Karly Vale, Shannon Vale, Olive Pascoe, Vera Duncan and Rochelle Hollingsworth who made the commitment to continue with their preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation in July at the Mass. Well done to the students who undertook ministries at the Mass including Mrs Mitchell and the Church Choir, the Readers and Special Ministers. PC Mass: PC Mass this week is the responsibility of Year 10 students. Revised version of the Roman Missal: On Pentecost Sunday the Southside Parish will be introducing the complete revised version of the Roman Missal. Students will be introduced to the new texts through RE classes next term.  Prayers and blessings, Mrs Claire Stitt

From the BUSINESS MANAGER SCHOOL FEES DUE FOR PAYMENT 8 JUNE 2011 A reminder to Parents and Caregivers that school fees for Term 1 are due in full by 8 June 2011 (not the end of term). Any families who are not making regular payments and their fees remain unpaid at 8 June 2011 will be contacted by the College either in writing or by telephone. The College is continuing to review all parents with unpaid school fees. We will be making contact with those parents where it is felt that the level of unpaid fees has reached an unacceptable level. Should any parents wish to discuss their outstanding fees please do not hesitate to contacting us. We can provide assistance with tailoring a repayment plan that will suit your circumstances. The College would much rather receive small regular payments than place these outstanding accounts in the hands of Debt Collectors. PAYMENT METHODS: A quick reminder that the College accepts payments in cash at the Reception Counter, by credit card at the Reception Counter or via a telephone call, internet transfers or through the Direct Debit system Mrs Julie-Ann Thackeray From the CULTURAL DIRECTOR Rockhampton Eisteddfod: The Eisteddfod came to a close on Saturday evening with the annual Gala Concert. Two of our students were invited by the adjudicators to perform. Jessica Paton played a violin solo and performed in a string ensemble and Braedy Griffin recited a poem. Past students Jessica Harris and Scott Lamb performed dance and music theatre items respectively. The bursary winners were announced and Jessica Paton was the recipient of the bursary for “The Most Promising String Player”. At the trophy presentation for the piano section on Friday evening Campbell Kelly was awarded a special ‘adjudicator’s encouragement award’. This entitles Campbell to special mentoring through the Australian Society of Music Education for a year. For the fourth consecutive year Jayhmee Milner-Cherry was awarded the trophy for first place in the short story competition. We congratulate these students on their outstanding achievements and all students who competed in the eisteddfod. Church Choir: The Church Choir sang at the TCC/Parish Mass last Saturday evening. The psalm was prayerfully sung by Olivia James. The group rehearses each Monday at first lunch and is always happy to welcome new members. Thanksgiving Service: A small group of School Choir members recently sang at a Thanksgiving Service presented by the Kidney Support Network and Donate Life Group. The very moving service recognized the donors and their families who make transplantation possible. Thank you to Amy Coker, Peta Dingle, Celeste Hack, Rochelle Hollingsworth, Brydie Parle, Justin Rodgers, Teanii Rose, Nadia Thompson and Emily Thwaite. (Pictured below) Grandparents’ Morning Tea: About 120 grandparents enjoyed the company of their grandchildren, a delicious morning tea and an enjoyable concert program at the annual Grandparents’ Morning Tea last Friday. The Year 11 Hospitality class, under the guidance of Mrs Karen Copping, prepared and served the morning tea and entertainment was provided by the College Bands, Instrumental Ensembles, Choir and many individual and duo artists. The members of the Cultural Committee kept the program moving. Special thanks to Miss Therese Quinn, Mrs Claire Stitt and Mr Michael Jones for their valuable efforts on the day. Music Evening: The Music Evening for this term will be held in Our Lady’s Hall on Friday 10 June commencing at 6.30pm. The College Bands, Instrumental Ensembles, Choir and the Year 6/7 Primary Ensembles will perform. Prior to the concert a BBQ will be on sale from 5pm and admission will be a gold coin donation.

They have to read ten fiction books by ten different authors At the completion of each book, have the bookmark signed off by Library staff. Students can enter as many times as they like. Each time they complete the bookmark, they can choose a “lucky dip” prize. All entries will then go into the draw for a major prize to be won in late August. With the holidays coming up, students are invited to visit the Library and borrow their novels. Students can borrow a maximum of 4 books over a three week period. There will be a meeting THIS Friday 3 June at first break in the MPC for all students interested. It would be just amazing for as many TCC students, staff, families and members from the wider TCC community to get involved and support this worthy cause. Our Principal, Mr Rob Alexander, will be subsidising the entry fee for each TCC student that competes to not only show our support of this event, but to also encourage as many as possible to come together and represent our College. The total cost, no matter the event you participate in will be $5.

SCHOOL SPORT BOYS BASKETBALL: Although our Sub Junior Boys just missed out on the play-offs, our Senior Boys (2010 Sporting Team of the Year) took to the court last night against Emmaus and what a win our boys had! With the Titans only up 3 at half time, it looked as though the game was going to come down to the wire, but they managed to pull away in the 2nd half and took total control of the game to win 41-28. The Grand Final next week is against our arch rival Glenmore, who is the only team to beat our boys this year, so they are looking for some big time revenge! Our Titans are by far the youngest team in the comp (NO YEAR 12s) and have only lost one game this year, so a pretty impressive season by these young men. So the challenge goes out to all TCC students to get down to Hegvold Stadium next Tuesday to support our young guns in what is set to be the biggest battle this season. The game kicks off at 4.30pm. Our Mascot will be out in force and would love an army of support behind him to cheer our boys to victory! Let’s fill those stands with blue and green and show just how great our TCC pride is! GIRLS NETBALL: A reminder that a bus will be provided for those girls playing in the first time slot. This bus will depart from the back of the MPC at 3.00pm SHARP. Girls requiring the bus (ONLY THOSE PLAYING IN THE FIRST TIME SLOT) are to be excused from their class at 2.55pm and head straight to the bus. They are to get changed at Jardine Park, not beforehand at the College. THERE WILL NO LONGER BE A SECOND BUS RUN. AFL: Congratulations to the AFL girls team who have made it through to the finals this Thursday. The girls have shown dedication and commitment to play off for the big one this Thursday at 4pm at the Rocky Cricket Grounds. Be there. Mr Gerard Raven RUGBY LEAGUE: Registration forms are now overdue. Students who have not returned their forms are asked to do so by this Friday 3 June. Training times: Now that the Club season has been completed, Schoolboy Rugby League will commence. Fixtures will commence in the first week back after the end of Semester holidays. Mr Stephen Parle (Co-ordinator) REPRESENTATIVE SPORT: Below is an overview off all representative sports coming up for you to view. Please take notice of not only the trial dates, but also the dates that paperwork is due to be returned. Secondary School Sport operates via extremely strict deadlines meaning that students will not be able to trial if their paperwork is not returned by the allocated dates with the associated trial costs. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they are aware of the date of their sport trials and when the forms are due. Do not expect students to be individually tracked down or chased after if they have not returned their paperwork by the dates outlined below. Rockhampton & District (R&D) Sports 2011 The R&D AFL U15 Boys Trials were POSTPONED and will be held at a later date, still to be advised. This monumental and limited piece of memorabilia is one of three worldwide Queensland Origin jerseys signed by the 2010 Team. This jersey is rare and will play a significant part in the history of Rugby League as 2010 was not only the 30 year celebration, but the 5th consecutive series win for the Queensland team, creating history. Featuring iconic player and Queensland Captain Darren Lockyer in possibly one of his last games as a Queenslander, along with integral teammates Billy Slater, Ben Hannant, Greg Inglis, Jonathan Thurston and Cameron Smith. This piece also includes three team photos that capture those very precious moments after the Queensland victory for a 5th year in a row.
