Children of all ages can benefit from the fun and friendly atmosphere that not only provides a challenging aerobic and acrobatic workout, but also helps kids develop their confidence and self-esteem. Our Capoeira classes involve movement utilizing the entire body to develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. Kids also get a chance to play traditional Capoeira instruments and learn to sing traditional Capoeira songs in Portuguese. The Great Re-Write by DramaZone

This writer’s workshop will feature classic children’s stories and new tales to re-tell! Students will explore featured stories, including Charlotte’s Web, James and the Giant Peach and more! From budding writer to avid reader, these stories will have imaginations running wild. 

  Tuesday Classes    

Budding Ballerinas and Toe Tappers: Cinderella by DramaZone 

Pre-K 3-K 3:45pm-4:30pm 8 classes, $360 Class Limit: 14 

Children enjoy learning two styles of dance in one class through the theme of Cinderella! This class was created to develop strength, coordination, and rhythm, as well as grace and flexibility. We incorporate studio beginner ballet and tap exercises in an environment designed to foster a love of dance. Recommended dress: comfortable clothing, leather ballet slippers, and hard soled shoes or tap shoes.    

 

Creative Bookmaking by ISB’s Elisa Hevia 

1st-3rd 4:00pm-5:00pm 8 classes, $320 Class Limit: 10 

Students will be introduced to the art of bookbinding by making their own books by folding and cutting paper in different ways. They will also create stories that can use words or just images. Students will put both their fine motor skills and their imaginations to work making hand-crafted books.

Winter 2020 Enrichment Classes 

Debate Club by SPARK Business Academy 

2nd-5th 4:45pm-5:45pm 8 classes, $360 Class Limit: 12 

Students learn the art of persuasion and help select debate topics they find appealing. Students work in rotating groups and practice their debating skills in a supportive environment, including developing arguments, issuing rebuttals, providing examples, rebuilding their case and summarizing points of view. Students learn to think on their feet and enhance their public-speaking skills, gaining self-confidence in the process.   

 

Growing Glockenspiels by Timbalooloo 

Pre-K 4-1st 4:15pm-4:55pm 8 classes, $410 (includes price of glockenspiel) Class Limit: 8   

Growing Glockenspiels™ gives children the opportunity to learn to play their first instrument through a unique class. They also learn to read and write music through a fun gradual process that helps make reading music intuitive. Each child gets their own Glockenspiel to keep forever and take home between classes (a glockenspiel is a xylophone-like instrument that is laid out like a piano with black and white keys). The class is valuable both to children who have never played an instrument before and to those who are taking instrumental music lessons separately.   

 

LEGO WeDo by Maker-State 

K-2nd 4:00pm-5:00pm 8 classes, $380 Class Limit: 10 

Let’s build and code mechanical animals, vehicles, and games in this fun-first introduction to robotics and computer programming. We’ll create with the LEGO WeDo robotics system and practice our creativity, communication, and problem-solving as we play and learn!

Earn, save, spend, donate! Let's learn about money! This innovative class on financial literacy lays the foundation for healthy financial habits early in life, empowering students with the mindset to start making sound financial decisions. Role-playing and fun activities keep students engaged. Financial literacy is an essential 21st century skill that will benefit all students, no matter where life takes them.

Musical Theater: Frozen by DramaZone 

1st-5th 4:30pm-5:30pm 8 classes, $415 Class Limit: 14 

Children embark on a journey of bravery and adventure as they work toward putting on a show for family and friends at the end of the trimester. Singing teaches rhythm and math through counting, dancing improves coordination and gross motor skills, while acting teaches speech and concentration while promoting confidence. Theater and dance games make this a well-rounded and fun class.  No experience necessary!   

 

Timbalooloo Music by Timbalooloo 

Pre-K 3-Pre-K 4 3:30pm-4:10pm 8 classes, $360 Class Limit: 10 

Children love stories, mysteries, suspense and fun games. They love to explore new instruments and musical traditions. In this class, instruments come to life as characters and actually speak through their music so that children learn to play instruments by performing the magical act of making their instruments talk (which is essentially what every great musician does with his or her instrument)! We also lay the groundwork for reading music by presenting an intuitive approach to pitch and musicality through games. 

 

 

 

Yoga by Brooklyn Beanstalk 

Pre-K 3-Pre-K 4 3:45pm-4:30pm 8 classes, $250 Class Limit: 10 

 Taught by experienced yogis from Brooklyn Beanstalk, in this class students are exposed to the benefits of yoga practice and learn to channel their energy in a fun and creative way. Core activities include breathing exercises, asanas (body postures), and meditation techniques.

Clay Animation & Stop-Motion by ClayWorld

Join us as we explore the art of Clay Animation, Clay Modeling and Stop-Motion Techniques! This artistic class helps students improve and exercise their creativity, fine motor skills, and artistic capabilities. Monsters, fairies, animals, backdrops and all sorts of creatures will be hand-built to create an amazing short animation video.

Destroy + Construct by KoKo NYC

Using screwdrivers, pliers, and other tools, kids destroy discarded printers, blenders and other common electronics to get inside and see how they work. Then, using the components along with recyclables and other materials, students construct new inventions or environments in the classroom. Kids learn about the workings of electronics while developing skills of innovation and invention.   

 

Indoor All-Ball Sports by DramaZone 

K-1st 4:15pm-5:00pm 10 classes, $475 Class Limit: 12   

Take a swing at some exciting new sports. Whether you enjoy softball, kickball, basketball, football or more, one thing is for sure: it is time to play ball! This class covers basic rules and early skills of a variety of sports. Teamwork and good sportsmanship is the name of the game.  

    

Inventors’ Lab by KoKo NYC 

K-1st 3:45pm-4:35pm 10 classes, $400 Class Limit: 12 

Kids will discover how and why each of the six basic simple machines was invented (inclined plane, wedge, lever, wheel and axle, screw, pulley) as they apply this knowledge towards a series of fun challenges. Through trial and error experiments, kids will work together in small teams to build simple and compound machines and have a chance to practice collaborative problem solving and creative solutions. The class will also learn about artists that are also scientists, from Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci to contemporaries Fischli and Weiss, who will inspire the group to create their own original inventions.

Sports Medley by DramaZone 

Pre-K 3-Pre-K 4 3:30pm-4:15pm 10 classes, $375 Class Limit: 12   

Children get a dynamic workout in this fun class without even realizing that they are exercising. Students will learn the basics of a variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, golf, and many more. Games are devised to promote good sportsmanship, concentration, hand/eye coordination, fitness, and early technical sports skills. Classes always begin with stretching and breathing - then let the games begin!  

 

 

Tennis by New Kids Tennis 

Pre-K 4-1st 4:00pm-5:00pm 9 classes, $390 Class Limit: 14 

New Kids Tennis offers high quality after-school tennis programs where children can develop valuable physical, mental, and social skills, and grow to reach their full potential. This USTA-sanctioned format helps children learn and play the game of tennis. The court size, racquet sizes, tennis balls, scoring system, and height of the net have been adjusted to meet children's needs. In our class, students have the opportunity to experience the game, have fun playing with their friends, and develop the skills that will become the foundation of their game.   

2nd-5th 5:00pm-6:00pm 9 classes, $450 Class Limit: 10 

Please note there will be no tennis on Wed, March 11th. Students may still attend After School Care that day at no extra cost.  Thursday Classes  

Children’s Theater en Español by ISB’s Rebeca Conget 

2nd-5th 4:00pm-5:00pm 10 classes, $400 Class Limit: 10   

Taught exclusively in Spanish, this class will introduce students to basic concepts of dramatic storytelling, using both their voices and bodies to get into character and tell a story. Students will each be assigned a character, read the play together, and learn and practice their lines every week as they also practice performing with one another. As a group we will work on the staging of the play and design basic sets and costumes. The class will culminate in a small performance for families.

Farm-to-Table Cooking by ButterBeans

Explore the wonderful world of food with Butter Beans on this farm-to-table culinary adventure that is sure to spark your child’s imagination! Students will create homemade and internationally-inspired recipes using seasonal and nourishing ingredients. As they explore nutrition, wellness, and mindful eating, these budding chefs will develop important kitchen skills that will last a lifetime. Each class concludes with time for a shared meal and conversation around the table. From learning how to create a balanced plate to celebrating the harvest, our young chefs will uncover the connections between food, health, and the natural world in a fun, hands-on cooking experience!

Chess by International Chess Academy 

Pre-K 4-K 3:45pm-4:30pm 8 classes, $310 Class Limit: 10 

This class is open to all newcomers to the game. Over the course of the trimester, we will cover the "ABC's” of chess: checkmate, opening development, en passant, castling, stalemate, and pawn promotion. Each class will have a brief lesson outlining a new topic, and then students will have a chance to play practice games in a fun and encouraging environment. Prizes and medals will be awarded to every participant at the end of the trimester!

Circus Arts by Brooklyn Beanstalk

Juggling, tumbling, clowning, balancing objects: this class offers all the elements of a child's dream of being part of a circus! The team at Brooklyn Beanstalk has been working for years to develop this creative program, which introduces the fundamentals of Circus Arts to children. This class stimulates students' creativity, coordination, and teamwork with a heavy dose of FUN.

Coding with Minecraft and Scratch by Maker-State 

2nd-5th 4:00pm-5:00pm 9 classes, $425 Class Limit: 10  

Budding programmers will create and share games, interactive stories, and animations using MIT’s fun-first, color-coded, Scratch programming language. We’ll also build and code interactive Minecraft worlds where we can program turtle bots to move and talk and build automated virtual machines in this creative exploration of real-world problem-solving and computer science.   

 

Fashion Friday by The Fashion Class 

1st-5th 4:00pm-5:00pm 9 classes, $365 Class Limit: 12  

This exciting program teaches students sewing machine use, hand sewing, measuring, the properties of fabric, printing fabric, and illustration. Children will create inspiration boards, design collections, and sew their own garments. We combine a little bit of math, a little bit of science, and a lot of design into one fabulous course!
