Do you want to learn ways to better manage your diabetes? Join us for a six week course, which meets once a week for 2 hours and 30 minutes to learn strategies to cope with the effects of Diabetes (physical and emotional), practice good nutrition, exercise effectively, communicate with health care professionals, build your confidence, feel better, be in control, do the things you want, enjoy socializing with others in your same situation and increase your knowledge of resources available to help you. Coming Soon: Aging Mastery Program® for CaregiversBCDA is very excited to offer the National Council on Aging’s Aging Mastery Program® for Caregivers. This 12-week class, which combines goal-setting, daily practices, incentives and peer support, empowers those caring for themselves and others to make the best of their longevity. Topics include Navigating Longer Lives, Exercise, Sleep, Healthy Eating and Hydration, Financial Fitness, Medication Management, Advance Planning, Healthy Relationships, Falls Prevention, and Community Engagement. This course is perfect for anyone who is directly or indirectly taking care of another person, but it also provides tools to master your own aging. Class will be held Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. beginning March 1, 2018 at the Pikesville Senior Center, 1301 Reisterstown Road, 21208.Register today by calling 410-887-4724. Space is limited.Cost for this 12-week program is only $35 (with the remaining portion subsidized by the BCDA).
Join Stepping On Program in FebruaryStepping On is an 8-week falls prevention program offered by Baltimore County Department of Aging which focuses on strength and balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, pedestrian safety, vision and mobility in preventing falls. This free and convenient self-management course will not conflict with existing programs or your treatment plans. This workshop designed to help people learn how they can reduce their risk of falls and remain independent. Gain the confidence and motivation you need to manage your risk of falls. The next workshop will be on Wednesdays, February 28 through April 18, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Seven Oaks Senior Center, 9210 Seven Courts – 21236, 410-887-5192. Startmaking plans to attend cooking demonstrations such as colorful quinoa bowls and overnight oats. Theprogram ‘Reviving Your Recipe’ will be springing up in nutrition sites near you! Sign up today for a Lenten-friendly Mediterranean Style Pan Seared Garlic & Herb Tilapia Fillet meal (dates vary by site), a St. Patrick’s Day Meal on March 15th and Easter Meal on March 28th! Senior Box Office (SBO) offers complimentary and discounted tickets to members for cultural, educational, and entertainment events. SBO also offers exciting travel opportunities to both members and non-members. Seniors age 60 and older are invited to join. Maryland Access Point ( MAP) of Baltimore County is part of a nationwide effort to streamline access to support, services and benefits to older adults, persons with disabilities, their families and care providers.
Center Connection links persons age 60 and over who need support to activities and services provided by the senior center. Center Connection Specialists, operating in eight Baltimore County Senior Centers, maximize individual’s senior center experience by encouraging participation in activities, registering for classes/Eating Together, and connecting them with other members.
This program connects Baltimore County residents age 60+ to community resources. Outreach workers evaluate seniors’ needs, assist with applying for benefits and services, and connect seniors to resources.
CountyRide provides paratransit transportation within the County for qualifying clients to appointments Monday through Friday. Reservations must be prescheduled and are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. A book of 6 tickets costs $15. Payment by check or exact amount of cash (No change available in vehicles.)
The Eating Together program provides a nutritious meal and socialization in 35 County sites in senior centers, community buildings and senior residences. Residents aged 60 and over and their spouses of any age are eligible to participate in this program and are asked to make a voluntary, confidential donation.
This community-based volunteer program provides social support to County seniors 60+ who are isolated and confined to their home. Through friendly in-home and telephone visits, volunteers offer the needed interaction, socialization and reassurance to help seniors maintain a higher quality of life with the ability to remain independent in their home longer.
Trained volunteers answer questions regarding Medicare A and B, Medicare Advangtage Plans, Medicare Supplement Insurance (medigaps), Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D), Medicaid and potential Medicare frauds. Also, callers are assessed for eligibility to obtain financial assistance to help with Medicare and prescription cost.

Information on closings and/or lateopenings will also be published on the Baltimore County web site, www.baltimorecountymd.gov.Senior Centers will open at 10:30 a.m. when a 2-hour delay is reported.
