MONDAY, JUNE 20, 2016 at CLEVELAND INDIANS LH Drew Smyly (2-7, 4.75) vs. RH Josh Tomlin (8-1, 3.27) RAY MATTER—The Rays completed a 4-5 homestand yesterday (2-1 vs. Astros, 2-1 vs. Mariners and 0-3 vs. Giants) by losing the final 4 games, one shy of their longest losing streak of the season (5, May 29–June 2)…the last 2 losses came with the Rays leading the Giants 3-2 in the 8th on Saturday and tied 1-1 in the 8th on Sunday…during the 4-game losing streak, Rays starters allowed only 7 ER and pitched to a 2.95 ERA (21.1-IP) while the bullpen has coughed up 10 ER in 14.2 innings…Rays remain without a win- ning homestand, one of four teams to go without one so far in 2016 (also the Braves, Twins and Diamondbacks)…Rays had been 9-2 in their previous 11 games before the 4-game slide. GIANT HEADACHE—In the just completed 3-game sweep at the hands of the Giants, the Rays scored 6 runs (5 on solo home runs) and went 0-for-20 with runners in scoring position…it’s the seventh time in club history they have gone hitless with RISP in a series, but the 20 AB are the most of those seven series…previous high was 0-for-16 in a 3-game set vs. Baltimore in May 1998…in the expansion era (since 1961), it’s only the 12th time an AL team has gone 0-for-20 or worse with RISP in a series, first since the Angels went 0-for-23 in a set vs. the Yankees in June 2015.
