Despite what others felt, Dylan’s decision to break up with Megan was not the reason for her death; this catastrophe had happened from a place which no one had the ability to pull her from. After being forced to have an abortion, Megan exhibited warning signs of suicide that many had noticed, but were unfortunately ignored. It was easier to blame Dylan for her failing grades, and lack of interest in school and cheerleading, but the truth was her depression was deeper than Dylan, and much more complicated than any of their friends could have ever comprehended. According to “Teen Suicide,” an Ohio State University report, “four out of five teen suicide attempts [were] preceded by clear warning signs,” and Megan’s suicide was no different from this chilling statistic. Had one of Megan’s friends paid attention to the warning signs, instead of pointing the finger at Dylan, Megan’s death could have possibly been prevented.
