NEW YORK — With its Sunday morning political talk show Face the Nation doing well in the ratings entering an election year, anchor Bob Schief-fer said Sunday the show will match its rivals by expanding to an hour in April.

Both Meet the Press on NBC and This Week on ABC already air for an hour each week.

Schieffer spent many years in third place in the ratings. But personnel

changes in recent years have hurt his competitors.

Schieffer didn’t mention it, but the expansion isn’t permanent — at least not yet. It’s contingent on how affiliates react to the change on their schedules.

CBS News President David Rhodes said the expansion will be for 20 weeks, through the political conventions, and then will be reevaluated.

NEW YORK — Posing as the airline pilot of the flight he was kicked off of, Alec Baldwin apologized to himself on Saturday Night Live.

The actor appeared on the sketch program’s “Weekend Update” on Sat-urday night to lampoon Tuesday’s incident, in which he was kicked off an American Airlines flight for refusing to stop playing a mobile phone game before takeoff.

As a Southern, mustachioed airline pilot, Baldwin issued an apology for the incident. The joke, though, was how obvious the ploy was.

The actor referred to himself as an “American treasure” who was playing “a word game for smart people.”

“Weekend Update” host Seth Meyers repeatedly questioned the thinly veiled performance, asking Baldwin, “Are you sure this is the right way to handle this?”
