MONET- INSPIRED WATER LILIES
Materials Provided: Paper Plate
Cupcake Liners
Materials Needed: Watercolor or Acrylic Paints
Glue
Make your own pond scene, inspired by the famous painter
Claude Monet, with this process art experience.
Instructions: 1. Gather some paints to create your pond scene. Use
a variety of greens, blues and purples to make the
water. Use sponges, brushes, or your fingers, to
drab and streak the paint in fun and interesting
ways! There are no rules -- experiment with
different paint strokes and styles!
2. Continue painting until the bottom of your plate is
completely filled in with a “pond.”
3. Add water lilies to your pond by scrunching up
cupcake liners, tissue paper or construction paper
and gluing them down on your pond. Make small
cuts into the paper or liner to create “petals” that
branch out like flowers.
1. This projec t has two pap er templ ates, e ach inside of a lar ge c irc le. To begin, color you r templat es however you’ d like. The “ moon” objec t on the second template could b e colored to look like the moon, Ma rs, or any alien worl d you choose.
2. Once you’ve colored both templa tes, cut out each c irc le. You will also nee d to cut out the curved objec t beneath y our rocket, in or der for the desi gns on the second template to show throu gh.
3. Once both templates are cut out, stack them on top of each othe r, fac ing up. The rocket template should be on t op.
Monet’s Water Lilies
In this process art activity, you’ll create a pond scene
in the style of Claude Monet (Moh-NAY). Monet was
a French painter who was famous for a series of
paintings that show ponds and water lilies -- in fact,
the “Water Lillies” series contains more than 250
paintings! Look up some of Monet’s paintings for
inspiration (you can see a couple below), and re-
create his most famous paintings with this activity.
Two versions of the project can be found online.
