6. Generic Patanase Multisource Launch SoonApotex is expected to lose their exclusivity on generic Patanase (Olopatadine) in early April. Sandoz and Perrigo are expected to launch at this time. It is strongly advised you watch your inventory closely in anticipation of any potential decreases in the market. As per Mutual policy, shelf stocks are not permitted to the retail level.

7. Abilify Generic Potentially DelayedMany manufacturers have expressed concern recently that they do not expect to launch generic versions of Abilify (Aripiprazole) as previously expected on April 20, 2015. The litigation surrounds an indication that the branded company received that was not previously captured on many ANDA filings. As a result of this, the approval of generic forms of this drug is less likely. Be sure to watch your branded inventory. More information will be posted onwww.mdmembers.com when available.

8. Potassium Chloride Liquid - NDC Not FDA ListedSome stores are reporting that Qualitest’s Potassium Chloride Liquid has been rejected by Medicare Part D with a message of “NDC not FDA Listed”. Qualitest’s item has DESI status and the FDA has recently approved the NDA for Potassium Chloride by Pharma-Med, INC. At this time, Qualitest continues to manufacture and distribute this item.

9. Notice: Supply status of 0.9% Sodium Chloride; 0.45% Sodium Chloride; 5% Dextrose; Lactated Ringer’s solution;empty LifeCare container; sterile water for injection.Due to a national shortage in several large volume intravenous (I.V.) solutions products, Hospira has placed the I.V. solutions products listed above on allocation. Hospira is currently manufacturing and releasing increased volumes of I.V. products on a continuous basis. Due to heavy demand and low stock, over the next five to six weeks we expect locational backorders and delays in shipment for several of these products. Full recovery of these products will require consistent supply from all U.S. manufacturers. Hospira is allocating these products, and as it becomes available will continue to ship quantities allocated for contracted customers based on historical purchases. ACP’s Legislative UpdatesUpdated 4/13/2015

The North Carolina General Assembly has been in session since January and many bills have been filed. Below is an overview of the bills that relate to pharmacy both directly and indirectly. Look these over and, if you would like to read them in their entirety, visit the North Carolina General Assembly’s website (www.ncleg.net) then enter the bill number in the search field.

Senate Bill 451 (S. 451)Penalties for Noncompliance: Senate Bill 451 sets penalties for PBM noncompliance in the insurance statute.

Senate Bill 557 (S. 557)Create Permit Exemptions/Home Renal Products:This bill would remove permit requirements for renal product delivery to patients by company.

Senate Bill 197 (S. 197)Allow Substitution of Biosimilars:Covers the use of biosimiliars and interchangeable biosimilars.

Senate Bill 697 (S. 697)IC/Establish Prescription Drug Fee Schedule:Sets up workers’ compensation drug formulary and fee structure

Senate Bill 290 (S. 290)Allow Early Refills of Prescription Eye Drops:Establishes a 70% use criteria for refilling eye drops.

House Bill (H.R. 65)Strengthen Controlled Substances Monitoring:Requires state boards to adopt further controlled drug standards. NC Board of Pharmacy is not included in this bill.

House Bill 78 (H.R. 78)Enact Medical Cannabis Act:This is legislation was introduced in the last session but did not move out of committee. House Bill 78 deals with the medical use of cannabis.

How these bills will move forward will be seen over the next few months. The Senate has reached and passed the final day to file bills and these bills have been assigned to a committee for hearing. These bills will be brought up in committee as decided by the committee chairman.

The House of Representatives still has until April 14 to file public bills. Many bills are still to be filed in the House and you can be assured some will touch pharmacy.
