Money Point Restoration Nine River Star businesses are restoring Money Point. CITGO visits River Star School, Rena B. Wright Elementary. HESS planted 1,200 trees to absorb pollution through the roots. CITGO Petroleum Corp., Chesapeake Terminal was the first River Star on Money Point to reach Model Level, with several wildlife habitat areas and innovative pollution prevention. HESS Corp. Chesapeake Terminal inherited a toxic legacy from a former wood treatment facility. Hess pumped about 100,000 galloons of creosote out of the ground, planted “phyto-remediation” trees and pledged a large “cut off wall” to safeguard the river. Lafarge North America Cement – Chesapeake Plant planted a native habitat and hosted the unveiling of the Money Point Plan. Kinder Morgan/Elizabeth River Terminals is actively conserving 16 acres including this site, set aside for wetlands! Kinder Morgan Southeast Terminal planted a wildlife area and maximizes environmental protection throughout operations. SIMS Metal Management Chesapeake recycles more than 222,000 tons of steel each year and planted trees to reduce runoff. Colonial Pipeline collects all stormwater runoff for treatment. McLean Contracting set aside four acres of wetlands for conservation. Southern Aggregates kept 221,616 lbs. of sediment out of the river with two stormwater ponds. Chesapeake is spending a $360,000 grant for stormwater improvements on Freeman Ave. including these using trees and amended soil to filter pollution.
