1 Safety

1.1 Appropriate use

The PTA-EEPROM application must only be used within the scope of its functions. It is aconfiguration tool which was developed for the purpose of integrating and adapting units to amachine or a system. This tool can also be used to flash units.Appropriate use also includes adhering to the adjusting and handling conditions prescribed bythe manufacturer. Using the system with disregard to even a minor specification will be deemedinappropriate use. The manufacturer assumes no liability for any injury or damage resultingfrom inappropriate use.

1.2 Safety notes

Caution! Personal injury and damage to property is possible!Crushing of body parts or damaging of add-on pieces as a result of wrong positionparameters is possible!

- Exact adjustment of parameter entries to the working conditions of the unit- Adjustments and parameter entries must only be made by qualified personnel

or specially trained personnel.

Note Older versions of the units have a different configuration tool on the CD-ROM(PowerConfig).

- Please contact your SCHUNK partner if you want to use any older version.

1.3 Warranty

The warranty period is 24 months after delivery date from factory, provided that the system wasused appropriately. In this context, please also see our General Terms and Conditions.

2 Introduction2.1 Scope of deliveryThe software (PTA-EEPROM) is available on a CD-ROM as an enclosed pack with the servo-electric units.

2.2 Requirements for the userA PC with a serial interface (RS232) is required. Between the unit and the configuration tool, thedata is transferred via this interface.

Connection requirementsThe PTA-EEPROM application can only be used via the communication interface RS232.This means that the circuit board of your unit must be connected for RS232. (please read thechapter “Electrical connection”, sub-chapter “RS232” in the operating manual of your unit in thiscontext)

⇒ Hint Connect a humidity protection cap as standard for RS232 and exchange it for thehumidity protection cap of the unit to be configured. (Precondition: the unit(s) has/haveRS232 communication)

Furthermore:In the case of the CAN and Profibus communication methods, you can use a humidityprotection cap with RS232 connection for the flash procedure. In this case, the BOOTprocedure for CAN or Profibus units is not necessary.

Note It is also possible to send some parameters directly via the bus without having to usethe configuration tool. These parameters are listed in a table in the chapter “Systemintegration of the PT-A modules”, sub-chapter “Parameter ID” in the OM of your unit.

2.2.1 Operating system requirements- Win NT,- Win 2000,- Win XP,- Win 98SE or Win ME

2.2.2 DEFAULT settings of the unitsInterface RS232Baud rate 9600Module address 12

Note The servo-electric pan-tilt unit is an exception. In this case, the factory settings of themodule address are as follows:

- Rotational axis = 11- Swivel axis = 12

NoteWhen using the DEFAULT function of your unit, the settings you have made for theother parameters or attributes are maintained.

2.3 Brief description of the PTA-EEPROM

PTA-EEPROM is a configuration tool which was developed for the purpose of integrating andadapting units to a machine or a system. With this tool, you can make the following changes onyour unit:

- Changing the module address- Changing the communication interface- Installing new firmware (“flashing” the unit)

The PTA-EEPROM application makes it possible to print out the technical data of unit as a datasheet.

2.3.1 PTA-EEPROM application window

These are the main components of the PTA-EEPROM application:

Figure 1: Design of the configuration tool

Å - TabÇ - Title barÉ - Closing the applicationÑ - Version of the applicationÖ - Displaying different areas of the tab

Ü - Buttons of the applicationá - Status bar

The configuration tool has five tabs (item 1 in Figure 1) with different areas. In these areas, youcan change the properties of your unit via input fields, control fields and radio buttons.

The application window has four buttons (item 6 in Figure 1).

- Press the [Read EEPROM] button to read the data out of the EEPROM of your unit. The data is then displayed in the respective input fields of the tool.

- Press the [Flash] button to transfer new firmware to your unit. (cf. “BOOT function”chapter on page 13 of this OM)
