“ETERNITY”

A doctor wrote in his memoirs: “Early in my career as a doctor, I

went to see a patient who was just coming out of anesthesia. Far off

church chimes were sounding. The woman murmured, ‘I must be in

heaven.’ Then she saw me and said, “No, I can’t be. There’s Dr.

Campbell.’”

The magnificent obsession of every spiritually responsible

individual is to someday live in that city not built with hands. A life of

progress, power and possessions means nothing if, in the end, we miss

heaven! Someone once observed, “Aim at heaven and you will get

earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you will get neither” (Matt. 6:33).

Sometimes Christians are criticized for having their head in the

clouds and not living in the real world due to our focus on the next life.

However, C. S. Lewis has well said: “If you read history you will find that

the Christians who did the most for the present world were precisely

those who thought most of the next.”

Paul wrote: “Set your affections on things above and not on

things of the earth” (Col. 3:3).
