An Introduction to the Advanced Placement Program®
• AP® courses are college-level courses offered in high school
• Courses reflect what is taught in top introductory college courses
• Students take AP Exams at the end of the course, measuring their mastery of college-level work
• A score of 3 or higher on an AP exam can typically earn students college credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college

AP® at Montgomery High School
• Prior to 1st day of class, students and parents will be required to sign a Advanced/AP/DC contract.
• Students are REQUIRED to take the AP Exam associated with the AP course they are registered for.
• Payment for all AP Exams is due within the 1st 10 days of school thru the Myschoolbucks website.
• This includes second semester courses that contain an AP Exam.
• Students may drop an AP course:• 1st 10 days of school
• End of 1st 6 weeks with a grade of 74 or below
• At end of semester

AP® Exams
AP Exams are administered by schools worldwide on set dates in May each year.
• Exams are typically 2–3 hours and include:
• Multiple-choice questions
• Free-response items such as essays, problem solving, document-based questions and oral response

Each college and university has its own policies regarding AP® credit and placement. The College Board offers information about AP credit at thousands of college and universities at www.collegeboard.org/apcreditpolicy.

• The exam fee for 2016-2017 is $93 per exam.• Assistance is available for eligible students with financial need:
• The College Board offers a $31 fee reduction per exam for eligible students with financial need.

Number of Courses if you are wanting to take more than three courses a
semester, you will need to meet with your MHS Counselor/Dual Credit
Coordinator for approval.
Grades in dual credit classes become a permanent part of your college record.
Maintain a college grade of “C” or better to remain in the program.
Compare the college and high school calendars.
Meningitis Shot is only needed if you are attending classes on a Lone Star
College Campus.
New Student Orientation is not required for dual credit students.
Bus Services are provided for welding and auto tech students.

• November 18th is the DEADLINE to register for Spring 2017. All forms must be completed and turned in before we leave for Thanksgiving
break.
• Withdrawal from a dual credit course requires notification to your high school coordinator and completion of the necessary paperwork
from the coordinator and student signature. There may not be a refund granted after a certain date AND *the student receives a W on his/her
transcript.
• Drops/withdrawals prior to Lone Star’s official date are not considered "dropped" courses and are not posted on the transcript.

How Do I Get Started?
• Go to www.lonestar.edu and apply for admission.
• Complete the pre-assessment activity by November 1st
and email Mrs. LaBruyere your Lone Star ID # and state
that you completed the video.
*** Applying to Lone Star and completing the pre-assessment activity
are required BEFORE a student can take the admissions testing for
college-level placement (TSI).
*** ACT/ SAT scores can be used to replace TSI scores, if a student
meets the requirement. Copies of SAT or ACT score reports need to
be turned in to Mrs. LaBruyere by Nov. 1st.
TSI: Texas Success Initiative
• Students will have the opportunity to TSI test on November 15th,
16th, or 17th at MHS. The cost is free the 1st time. It is $29 if a
student needs to make a 2nd attempt on the entire test or $10 if a
student needs to make a 2nd attempt on a section of the test.
• Students may register to take the TSI through the College and
Career Website.

Dual Credit Timeline
• Complete application and pre-assessment activity by November 1st.
Don’t forget to email Mrs. LaBruyere.
• Record your Lone Star ID#, username and password on card and
keep it in a SAFE place!
• Register and complete the TSI on Nov. 15th, 16th, or 17th.
• Complete and turn in Dual Credit Enrollment Packets (course
approval form, parent waiver, FERPA) by November 18th for Spring 2017
classes. Fall 2017 registration will take place in the spring.
• Lone Star admission advisors will be on campus Nov. 29th to enroll
students for the Spring 2017 semester.
• Follow the procedures and timelines for registration, drops, and
payment.
• Sign up for Dual Credit Remind.
