o the S%&' and used to provide urther management o the area# Thispartnership has lasted more than a decade" since GVI Seychelles, inception in-../" and we hope that it will continue to do so or at least that long in theuture# To build upon the relationship and allow the GVI volunteers and S%&'sta0 to get to know each other" together we organi1ed a teambuilding day in mid
2une# $e started the day by splitting up each group" sending hal o each toremove invasive vegetation and the others to our two beaches to clean up themultitude o plastic that washes ashore# $ith the winds increasing lately" moreand more plastic and other rubbish had been washing ashore into the &ort3aunay +arine %ational &ark on the south side o Cap Ternay" a0ectionatelycalled ,back beach, by the GVI team" causing a buildup o garbage on the beachand in the mangroves# In 4ay Ternay" a long beach with high tourist tra5c also
unortunately can oten mean a lot o garbage accumulating on the shore" butbetween the two beaches, teams we !lled our trusty truck to the brim with bagso garbage collected rom the road and shore# Sweaty and hungry" we returnedto base or S%&' &hillip,s amous" mouth6watering 447 east" ollowed by somecasual rounds o volleyball#

were not able to gather teams and build rats this year" we hope that utureyears will bring more teams into the e*uation" which may even give GVI achance: $ell done to S%&' or reigning victorious (again) and to the winning GVIteam or pulling ahead o the others in the last -. meters:
GVI Seychelles also recently partnered up with the Green Islands ;oundation(GI;)" who has just concluded a year6long shark awareness campaign in theSeychelles# GI; joined us here at Cap Ternay with <= kids and young adults romthe &ort Glaud 9nvironment Club" or a day o educational lessons and activitieson sharks# GVI volunteers were split into three groups" each to ocus on di0erentaspects o sharks and their importance# The !rst group discussed the variousshapes o shark tails and teeth and what that means or the way they swim"hunt" and eat# 'nother group discussed the various sharks ound in theSeychelles and in what environments here they can be ound" as well as gettingthe kids to guess the si1es o species rom a white tip ree shark to bull shark to-. meter whale shark" while laying out a survey tape to drive the point home#
The third group talked about the importance o sharks in the ood web" with aninteractive activity demonstrating the damage to the web that would arise roma disappearance o sharks" as well as removing some misconceptions about thethreat o sharks# 's a group we then ventured down to ,back beach, where thelittle lemon sharks will hide in the mangroves as pups in the ne>t ew months"beore heading o0 or a snorkel at &ort 3aunay# ?nortunately the visibility wastoo poor to e>plore much o the ree" but we still got to swim in the cool waterwith the kids and hopeully they will get to e>perience more o the ree soon:
