What is Globalization: Globalization is a phenomenon driven by technology and the movement of ideas, people, and goods. Globalization describes a process by which national and regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through the global network of trade, communication, immigration and transportation. Waves of globalization:

To understand what Globalization 4.0 means, it’s necessary to look back on the previous Globalization waves 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0: GLOBLIZATION 1.0: Globalization 1.0 refers to the rapid growth in world trade, mainly during the nineteenth century or it can be called pre-1914 period. It was driven by innovations in transport and communications, including the railways, steamships and the electric telegraph which further reduced the cost of global transport and enabled the separation of production and consumption across international borders. GLOBLIZATION 2.0: Globalization 2.0 or post 1945 era refers to the international industrialization after the Second World War. It is driven by greater international cooperation. The post-war period saw less protectionism and a rapid growth in world trade, at least in western economies. GLOBLIZATION 3.0: The third wave of Globalization (Globalization 3.0) is thought to have started around 1990 Which was driven by advances in technology, including the spread of the internet. During this wave:

• It was easy for different stages of production to be based in various locations across the globe, leading to the emergence of modern supply chains.

Globalization 4.0 as a theme in the meet of World Economic Forum 2019 The central theme of the 49th World Economic Forum’s Annual meeting, which was held in Davos, Switzerland from January 5 –January 25, 2019 was “Globalization 4.0: Shaping a New Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” Representatives at the Forum discussed the strategic ramifications of Globalization 4.0 and its future impact on global co-operation. Klaus Schwab, founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, labels in the meet that the core of Globalization 4.0 IS relying on digital connectivity and the related flow of ideas and services.

1. SHREYAS (Scheme for Higher Education Youth in Apprenticeship and Skills) was launched by Ministry of Human Resource and Development.

• The programme promotes apprenticeship as an important part of education and integrates the government’s employment building efforts into the education system.

2. The govt. has approved the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Ordinance,

2019 which will bring persons living in remote and inaccessible areas under reservation ambit.

• it would pave the way for extend reservation in jobs, promotions and education to people living 10 km from the International Border (IB) in Jammu.

• Article 35A of the constitution empowers J&K legislature to define state's "permanent residents" and their special rights and privileges.

• Article 370 guarantees special status to J&K, restricting Union's legislative powers over three areas: Defence, Foreign Affairs and Communications.

3. ‘Mera Kam-Mera Abhiman’ - Employment generation programme will be launched for

the urban youth in Punjab which will “ensure dignity of labour”. • The programme is part of the State government’s ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar and

Karobar’ mission. • The aim of this mission is to provide one job for each family in a time-bound

manner and the scheme would certainly reach out to every household.

4. NITI Aayog and Adobe as a part of Atal Innovation Mission have signed a Statement of

Intent to collaborate on enhancing digital literacy and creativity skills. • Under the agreement, they will open Digital Disha Programme across 100

schools under the Atal Tinkering Labs. • Under the Adobe Digital Disha Programme, the Adobe would provide Adobe

Spark application, a fun and frictionless storytelling Creative Cloud application free of charge for education and skill development.

5. A new world record has been set up by The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities by carrying out Modern Artificial Limbs (Legs) implantation of 260 people in record eight hours.

• The department is under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

6. Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has launched the “Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN (Jaiv Indhan- Vatavaran Anukool fasal awashesh Nivaran) Yojana”.

• It aims to provide financial support to Integrated Bioethanol Projects using lignocellulosic biomass and other renewable feedstock.

• Lignocellulosic biomass (or LC biomass) refers to plant biomass that is composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.

7. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) launched IRCTC iPay, its own payment aggregator system which is a step to promote government’s Digital India initiative.

• It provides payment options like credit card, debit card, UPI (Unified Payment Interface), International Card and an option of IRCTC prepaid card cum wallet, auto debit will also be available soon.

8. “Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi” scheme was launched in Haryana. • It is primarily meant for farmers of the state who cultivate on land with areas up

to five acres and the families with an income of less than Rs. 15,000 per month.

• Each beneficiary family would be eligible for a financial assistance of Rs. 6,000

every year and each family will have to nominate a member to avail this benefit. • The scheme provides insurance facilities of- Rs. 2 lakh on natural death, Rs. 2

lakh for accidental death, Rs. 2 lakh for permanent disability and Rs. 1 lakh for partial disability.

9. Gram Samridhi Yojana is being worked upon by the Ministry of Food Processing

Industries to strengthen the unorganized food processing sector concentrated in rural areas – Cottage Industry, Farmer Producers’ Organization and Individual Food Processors.

• Its Rs 3,000 crore scheme funded by the World Bank (Rs. 1,500 Crore) and Government of India (Rs. 1,000 Crore) while the state govts. will put in Rs 500 Crore.

• The scheme will be run in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab for a five-year period in the initial phase and thereafter in other states of the country.

10. Karnataka state govt. has launched new water conservation scheme – ‘Jal Amrutha’

• The scheme plans to make people aware about the importance of conserving water.

11. As per the audit firm Grant Thomson, transactions worth more than Rs 13,000 crore at Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) could be linked to irregularities such as conflicts of interest, inadequate risk assessment and deviation from banking norms.

• Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), a fraud investigating agency in its interim report has alleged that the non-banking finance company IL&FS had borrowed short term loan from the market and lent long term to group companies that were struggling to raise funds, risking its own financial position and in violation of the Companies Act.

12. Troops of the Central Industrial Security Force set a Guinness world record covering 3.2

Km non-stop in ''single Line Bicycle Parade'' to mark the 50 years of the paramilitary force.

• The new record was created at the Yamuna Expressway in Noida, with personnel of the central force riding 1,327 bicycles.

• Earlier, this record was held by Hubballi Bicycle Club of India which had 1,235 bicycles in single chain.

17. The foundation stone for a manufacturing unit of the AK-203/103 assault rifle was laid in

the Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh. • The AK-203 is advanced version of the legendary AK-47 rifle. • New Delhi and Moscow signed an inter-governmental agreement to build the

AK-203 in India.

18. Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uber to provide free healthcare services to Uber drivers.

• Drivers have to pay Rs 30 to get Ayushman Bharat Card and can avail the benefits – no charges for pre-hospitalisation, hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation expenses.

19. India will tie up with 4 nations – Bhutan, Nepal, Indonesia and Malaysia to increase the

population of three species of Asian Rhinos namely Greater One-horned Rhinoceros, Javan Rhino, and Sumatran Rhino.

• The five rhino range nations signed a declaration ‘The Declaration on Asian Rhinos 2019’ for the conservation and protection of the species.

20. National Common Mobility card dubbed as “One Nation One Card” was launched to

make different kinds of payments including metro, bus, suburban railways, smart city and retail shopping.

• The card is similar to any RuPay debit/credit card, which will be available with more than 25 banks.

• A cardholder can also avail 5 percent cash back at ATMs and 10 percent cash back at merchant outlets while travelling abroad.

• It has been launched as part of the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP 2006) by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

21. As per National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) 2018-19 Survey, 93.1% of rural

Indian households now have access to toilets in comparison to 77% last year. • It was conducted between November 2018 and February 2019, covering 92,040

households in 6,136 villages. • The survey was commissioned by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. • 96.5% of people who had access to toilets, use them. • Only four states — Goa, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal — falling short of

24. According to IQAir AirVisual 2018 World Air Quality Report, Gurugram, in Haryana, topped with an average annual Particulate Matter quality of 135 g/m3 the list of most polluted cities.

• Bangladesh emerged as the most polluted in terms of countries followed by Pakistan and India respectively.

• Delhi was at the eleventh position. • India’s annual guidelines range from 40-60 g/m3, depending on whether they

are residential or industrial areas. • The ranking is one of its kind study that relies on ground-based sensors located

in 3,000 cities from 73 countries.

25. A new scheme - ‘Mukhya Mantri Karigar Sahayata’ has been launched in Odisha for

providing financial assistance to craftsmen. • All those craftsmen with 10 years of experience with annual income below Rs.1

lakh are eligible to get an assistance of Rs.800 per month. • The craftsmen above 80 years of age having same annual income and same

experience would get Rs 1000 per month allowance.

26. As per the research by Cable.co.uk., India has the cheapest mobile data in the world at Rs 18.5 or $0.26 for 1GB compared to global average of $8.53 or around Rs 600 per GB.

• The research compared mobile data charges in 230 countries from 6,313 mobile data plans between the period of October 23 and November 28 last year.

• The most expensive country at $75.20 for 1GB data is Zimbabwe. • India is followed by Kyrgyzstan, Kazakstan and Ukraine where mobile data rate

per GB are $0.27, $0.49, and $0.51 respectively.

35. PM Narendra Modi unveiled the new series of Visually Impaired friendly coins of in the

denominations of Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 20. • With this, India got the first Rs 20 denomination coin which is shaped in the

form of a 12-edged polygon with a design of grains to denote farm dominance of the nation.

• They will provide 100 ml milk twice a week for 2.5 lakh children at 20,000 Anganwadi Centres in the state.

39. The govt. is considering a new “Reintegration Policy” draft that is under the consideration of the J&K government to encourage militants hailing from the state to give up arms.

46. The Indian Sundarban was accorded the status of ‘Wetland of International

Importance’ under the Ramsar Convention. • They constitute over 60% of the country’s total mangrove forest area. • It is the 27th Ramsar Site in India with an area of 4,23,000 hectares • It is now the largest protected wetland in the country. • The Indian Sundarban met four of the nine criteria’ — presence of rare species

47. The Central Government has amended the guidelines for disposal of the Enemy

Property Order, 2018, to facilitate usages of enemy property by the state government exclusively for public use.

• Enemy properties are the properties of the people who migrated to Pakistan during partition and also to China after the Sino-India war in 1962.
