From Rev. Jack... Dear Friends, If there is one topic I like thinking about it is money. I like planning to have enough money, thinking how to be gen- erous, how to save, and even how to spend. But Jesus liked to do more than think about it-he actually talked about money. In fact I think the argument can be made that Jesus talked more about money than any other single subject, in- cluding prayer. In some way Jesus seemed to think that the way we used our money was a sign of our spiritual depth and values. I wonder how he would have responded to money during the recent financial crisis? I think part of what he would do is remind us of how we fret away so much of our money on things that are fun or comforting, but not important eter- nally. Would he challenge us to give as much to the church as we give to Starbucks? Would he challenge us to match checks to the church with our giving to Time Warner or Verizon? Even though we seem to have come back from the brink, many of us still have tremendous concerns about our financial future-the church is no different. Like you, the church must faithfully and responsibly plan for our future. God is with us and has called us to a unique ministry which calls for time, energy, and yes, even money. This year the church is asking you to make a pledge to the 2010 Annual Budget. You can find more information about giving on our web site under the Stewardship link including budgets, pledge cards, and other information such as the confidentiality of pledges and the ability to change a pledge. Your giving is your best estimate for what you can give to the church. Please return your completed pledge cards on or before November 22nd. My family, as well as the Car- son's will make pledges to our church. We encourage you to pray and be generous in your giving, without which could not carry out the wonderful minis- tries we’re called to such as VBS, mission giving, Sunday worship, and service to the poor in Lakeland. I’m so thankful to be one of your pastors. I believe in our church and trust God is leading us in this journey together. Thanks ahead of time for your generosity and timeliness as we seek to help build the kingdom of God in south Lakeland. From Rev. Jack... Dear Friends,

If there is one topic I like thinking about it is money. I like planning to have enough money, thinking how to be gen-

erous, how to save, and even how to spend. But Jesus liked to do more than think about it-he actually talked about

money. In fact I think the argument can be made that Jesus talked more about money than any other single subject, in-

cluding prayer. In some way Jesus seemed to think that the way we used our money was a sign of our spiritual depth

and values.

I wonder how he would have responded to money during the recent financial crisis? I think part of what he would do

is remind us of how we fret away so much of our money on things that are fun or comforting, but not important eter-

nally. Would he challenge us to give as much to the church as we give to Starbucks? Would he challenge us to match

checks to the church with our giving to Time Warner or Verizon? Even though we seem to have come back from the

brink, many of us still have tremendous concerns about our financial future-the church is no different. Like you, the

church must faithfully and responsibly plan for our future. God is with us and has called us to a unique ministry which

calls for time, energy, and yes, even money.

This year the church is asking you to make a pledge to the 2010 Annual Budget. You can find more information

about giving on our web site under the Stewardship link including budgets, pledge cards, and other information such as

the confidentiality of pledges and the ability to change a pledge. Your giving is your best estimate for what you can give

to the church. Please return your completed pledge cards on or before November 22nd. My family, as well as the Car-

son's will make pledges to our church.

We encourage you to pray and be generous in your giving, without which could not carry out the wonderful minis-

tries we’re called to such as VBS, mission giving, Sunday worship, and service to the poor in Lakeland. I’m so thankful

to be one of your pastors. I believe in our church and trust God is leading us in this journey together. Thanks ahead of

time for your generosity and timeliness as we seek to help build the kingdom of God in south Lakeland.

Prayer & Care Do you need prayer or does someone you know need prayer or do you want to pray for someone

else's need? We have many ways you may ask for prayer and receive prayer. · By email - We have over 150 church folks that every week (sometimes more often if a special need

arises) receive a email with all the prayers requested by our congregations. If you wish to be included and receive this email please contact Leslie Grill at [email protected].

· Prayer requests may be submitted directly to Leslie via email or through the website where a prayer request form is available. You may also submit prayer requests by paper. Those slips are available in

the pews at LMC or at the welcome center at SRC. Place those slips in the offering plate. · In addition to those above - prayer requests are published in the newsletter and bulletin. Colleen at

the church office is in charge of these lists. Let’s all be a part of this powerful prayer ministry and stay connected to your church and its needs through prayer. Tap into one or more of the above

prayer ministries today. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Connecting, Growing, and Serving together in the coming Year The people of Christ the Shepherd Cooperative Parish are very excited about the ministry possibilities next year. In many ways 2009 was a tough year for everyone, with a great deal of financial uncertainty. As we look forward to next year we ask you to provide an estimate of your giving next year through a pledge. We ask this because we need to know how to plan faithfully and responsibly for the future. Below this article shows an abbreviated version of the budget for both campuses. Pledge cards will be mailed to all members and contributors, also available in worship services and online at www.scumc.net under the Stewardship link or http://christtheshepherd.wufoo.com/forms/2010-pledge Please pray about your best estimate of giving for your pledge next year. Return your completed pledge cards to the church by November 22 or drop it in the offering plate during any service. Thanks so much for your faithful giving.
