Republic Day Parade Camp 2013

K. Dhanalakshmi from Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts & Science

for Women, Perambalur and M. Meenakshi from Bon Secours College for Women,

Thanjavur have been selected and participated in the Republic Day Parade Camp

held at New Delhi from 1st to 31st January 2013. These two participants were

felicitated by Dr. K. Meena, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University and NSS

Coordinator Dr. L. Ganesan on 14th February 2013.

1. Cauvery College for Women, Trichy

The NSS units of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy organised a

special programme on Menstrual Hygiene Management for the school girls

in the adopted villages of Sirugamani, J.J. Nagar, Valluvar Nagar,

Kavalkarapalayam and S. Pudhukottai on 17th January 2013. The Principal

of the College Dr. V. Sujatha handed over the sanitary napkins to the

Programme Officers to carry out the message to the adopted villages. The

NSS volunteers were trained by the women NGO’s on Menstrual Hygiene

Management and Cleanliness on health and hygiene during menstrual time

and imparted training to the students. So that the students would spread

the message to the ignorant ones. Environmental friendly disposal of used

napkins was taught to the students.

Students were formed into groups and each group was assisted by a

NSS volunteer and the importance of cleanliness and the sanitary napkins

was taught to the girls. Feedback was given by the students as they were

enlightened on knowing about cleanliness so as to avoid infection and

rashes. Representatives from Women NGOs namely Ms. Suseela and Ms.

Kalaivani insisted the students to use napkins and avoid using cloth.

2. Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur

The NSS units of Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur

organised a one day awareness programme on Menstrual Hygiene

Management for the female students of the college on 31st January 2013.

Principal of the college, Dr. V. Ayothi inaugurated the programme. Dr.

Nalina Devi from Govt. Hospital, Valigandapuram participated in the

programme and stressed the importance of women’s health in the society.

She also stressed the importance of the usage of sanitary napkins during

the menstruation period.

National Voter’s Day

The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the district administration organised a mini marathon in Trichy to mark the National Voter’s Day celebrations on 25th January 2013. Around 1000 NSS Volunteers from various colleges of Trichy participated in this mini marathon held from R.C. Higher Secondary School to Vestry Higher Secondary School via Railway Junction, Khadi Kraft, Central Bus Stand. A small programme was also organised at the Vestry Higher Secondary School on the same day. The Trichy District Collector, Smt. Jayashree Muralidharan addressed the participants and stressed the importance of voting to boost the democracy in our country.

Earlier, quiz competitions and collage competitions was also organised in all the NSS implementing colleges. The initiative was taken by the NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University.

Republic Day 2013

The Republic Day was celebrated in all the NSS implementing colleges

of Bharathidasan University in a grand manner on 26th January 2013.

Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. (Mrs.) K. Meena hoisted the national tri-

colour flag in Bharathidasan University campus. Dr. S. Aruchamy,

Registrar i/c, Dr. Ganesh, Controller of Examinations, Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS

Coordinator, Professors, Staff members, NSS Volunteers and other students

were present on the occasion.

Indira Gandhi NSS Awardee for the year 2011-12 in the NSS

Volunteer category A.J. Rufina Amreen was felicitated by the Vice-

Chancellor. The participants of the North East Youth Festival 2012, 15th All

India Inter University National Integration Youth Camp 2012 and Indian

Student Parliament 2013 were also felicitated.

Republic Day Competitions

One day Republic Day Competitions was organised by NSS Unit of

Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. A circular was sent to all the

Departments and Centres of the Bharathidasan University Main and

Khajamalai Campus about Republic Day competitions. The Oratory, Poetry

and Essay competitions were conducted on 24th January 2013. Fifty

students were participated in the competition. The event was inaugurated

by Dr. L. Ganesan, Programme Coordinator (i/c) and the participants

performances were judged by Dr. U. Alibava, Associate Professor of Tamil,

Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. The event was organised by Mr.

P. Masilamani, Assistant Professor, NSS Programme Officer, Bharathidasan

University Unit, Tiruchirappalli.

Anti Alcohol Campaign

The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with All India

Mahatma Gandhi Social Welfare Association, Pudukkottai organised an anti

alcohol rally on 30th January 2013 to mark the death anniversary of

Mahatma Gandhi at Pudukkottai. Around 1000 NSS Volunteers from

various colleges of Pudukkottai district participated in the rally and in the

programme held thereon.

150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda

To celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda in a

grand manner, a procession was organised by Sri Ramakrishna

Vivekananda Trust at Kumbakonam from Western Side of Mahamaha

Kulam to Saraswati Padasala HSS (2 km) on 3rd February 2013 (Sunday) by

3.30 pm. After the procession, a Public Meeting was also organised

highlighting the contribution of Swami Vivekananda in the field of Youth

Development. Around 400 NSS Volunteers from various colleges in

Kumbakonam participated in this procession.
