ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL & COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE (ACCC) MEETINGSThursday, January 10, 2013 and Thursday, February 7, 2013 are the dates for the next ACCC meengs at 7 PM at
the Deerfield Recreaon Center, preschool room.
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Neighbors,
I would like to publicly thank Dave Eisenberg for his
service to the Community over the last three years as a
Trustee and member of the facilies commiee. Hissound advice and mature deliberaon was very helpful.
Thank you for volunteering your me! Come on back
when work slows down some.
One of the first requirements of the new Board was to
dra the 2013 Budget. As discussed over the years, our
pool parking lot is in need of resurfacing and the pool
whitecoat is six years into about an eight to ten year
design life. These two projects would put a serious bite
into our Major Projects Reserve Funds so we approved
a $10 increase to the Annual Assessment to $285.00.
As difficult as it was to raise the assessment, when wecompare ours to similar communies we sll are
geng quite a bargain.
Our other duty was to fill the two vacant trustee seats.
We welcomed back Tim Jacobs and had the good for-
tune to add Brad Gimbert onto the Board. The
Gimberts are an original Montpelier family and Brad is
sure to bring his love of our special neighborhood to
each decision we wrestle to solve. With all nine of our
Trustee seats filled, we are ready to take on 2013.
An excing development started last year with Richard
Mason and came to reality when Rilla Poer an-nounced that she would like to resurrect the Montpel-
ier Welcoming Commiee! We have a number of new
families moving in all the me and now we can do more
than just have the realtor hand them our Associaon
Governing Documents; we can share how special our
neighborhood is IN PERSON. Taking a lile something
to the door on a Saturday morning and saying
Welcome to the neighborhood adds a personal touch
that we want to thank Rilla and her team for bringing
back to our community.
Another of the nice things this community does is sup-
port our local heroes. One of those heroes was Officer
First Class Adrian Morris, a young Prince Georges Po-
liceman cut down in the line of duty while in pursuit of
two car the suspects. To help his family our Treasurer
has been collecng donaons and will be adding a
block on our 2013 assessment form to provide a con-
venient way to chip in for this wonderful gesture of
support. We also can accept checks made out to FOP
89 with Officer Adrian Morris Fund on the memo
line. Please help us with this tangible tribute to PFC
Adrian Morris commitment.
Your Board of Trustees will be busy this winter lining up
contracts for pool management, common grounds
maintenance, trash removal, refurbishing the brick on
the guard shack, and resurfacing the parking lot. Once
Spring arrives we will then begin the ongoing mainte-
nance of repairing swings, clearing out drains, fixing
leaky plumbing, changing light bulbs and ghtening
table legs. Other items up for discussion are adding
more playground equipment and purchasing pool furni-
ture. If you have any suggesons, ideas or quesons
please call the MCA Hot Line (888-622-4630), call or e-
mail any of us on the Board (see page 3), or come to ameeng on the 2
ndTuesday of every month at Deer-
field Recreaonal Center, Pre-school room at 7:00 pm.

COMMUNITY GENEROSITY
Donations still accepted for the Adrian Morris Family Fund
Being a police officer was a childhood dream of PFC Adrian Morris. He was a 24 year-old County police officer
when he died in the line of duty and his family needs our help. He was the sole support of his mother and younger
brother.
The MCA treasurer, Lillian Fazio, is sll accepng donaons for the Morris family. Please make checks out to the
MCA with a memo notaon that it is for the Morris Fundor you can include your donaon with your annual assess-
ment for 2013. A check for the Morris family fund will be drawn from the MCA account and Security Chairman,
Richard Mason, will present the donaon to the Prince Georges County Police Commander of District VI, who will
direct it to the Morris family.
Thank you for your generosity. Police officers have a dangerous and difficult job and it is not oen we can show
our appreciaon.

SECURITY COMMITTEE REPORT
Break ins:
We experienced a few minor crimes on 11-14-12 on
Silverbirch, Eastgate and Radnor. These unsuccessful
breaking and entry aempts were stopped by vigilant
residents. The criminal was detained by a resident unl
the police arrived. He is now in jail.
Burning Leaves:
Bagged leaves were set on fire early on 12-5. Police
quickly arrived but could not locate culprit.
Fire Prevenon @ COPS Coffee 11-1-12:
For a Fire Department inspecon of your home, call the
non-emergency fire house number 301-864-7233
(SAFE) for an inspecon, free smoke detector, free car-
bon monoxide detector and free baery. This number is
for fire inspecon only. For a fire or medical emergen-cy call 911.
Other ps from the fire department-
Change the baery in smoke and other detectors
when you set clocks back one hour for the end of
daylight savings me.
When using a generator, keep it as far away from
your house as possible, and point the exhaust away
from your house and your neighbors house, too.
Open pit fires are discouraged, but are permied
with specific condions. The Fire Department recom-
mends keeping fire pits at least 50 feet from house or
woods. Please use cauon, common sense and be
courteous of neighbors if having an open fire.
The non-emergency telephone number for the Laurel
Fire Staon Fire Staon is 301-883-7710.
Reporng Crime Tips:
The Prince George's County Police requests the commu-
nity's assistance in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
We're asking for your EYES and EARS to gather and re-
port any informaon relang to abnormal or suspicious
acvity in your neighborhood. If you see or hear such
acvity, please report your concerns as soon as possible
by calling the police immediately. Your mely phone
call will give the responding officer the best possible
chance of catching the suspect(s). For police service of a
non-emergency nature, please call 301-352-1200. For
emergency calls, dial 9-1-1.
Protect Your ID:
Whether you're using a tradional computer, tablet or
mobile device, these ps will help you outsmart preda-
tors lurking in the digital marketplace.
Beware of misspelling the site you intend on vising
and be wary about shopping at sites that end in any-
thing other than .com.
Remember that any page that lets you enter credit
card informaon should start with hps:// and in-
clude a locked padlock icon.
Use credit, rather than debit, cards when shopping
online. Debit card informaon is easier to steal, and it
takes longer to recover any stolen funds.
Refrain from making purchases via a public WI-Fi con-
necon. Open connecons can give hackers direct
access to your personal informaon.
If a site requires you to log in, choose a strong pass-
word that doesn't in any way relate to your personal
informaon. (Goodbye, mom's maiden name.)
Keep an eye out for any odd error messages or redi-
recon to clone sites. In these cases, your data could
be captured without you even knowing it. Make sure that any built-in firewalls are turned on
and that any security soware is up to date.
Think Like a Thief:
Dont be a show-off. If you have a lot of signs poinng
to the good stuff you own, like the box for your new
HDTV, a burglar might be willing to take a greater
chance in breaking in to your house. So dont adverse
your new goodsinstead, break up boxes of expensive
new items and place them in the boom of recycle bins
or in garbage bags.
ATMS/Credit Cards:
Pay close aenon to the ATM and your surroundings.
Don't select an ATM at the corner of a building - corners
create a blind spot. Use an ATM located near the center
of a building. Do your automated banking in a public,
well-lighted locaon that is free of shrubbery and deco-
rave parons or dividers.
Maintain awareness of your surroundings throughout
the enre transacon. When leaving an ATM make sure
you are not being followed. If you are, drive immediate-
ly to a police or fire staon, or to a crowded, well-
lighted locaon or business.
Do not allow people to look over your shoulder as youenter your PIN.
Do not wear expensive jewelry or take other valuables
to the ATM. This is an added incenve to an assailant.
Never count cash at the machine or in public. Wait unl
you are in your car or another secure place.
When using a drive-up ATM, keep your engine running
and your doors locked.
Closely monitor your bank statements, and immediately
report any problems to your bank.

Mark Fowler, Engineering Technician, provided Peter &
Marita Brown, Bob Derrick and Richard Mason with
guidance for solving speeding problems in our communi-
ty and especially on Montpelier Drive. He recommend-
ed that we request a reclassificaon of Montpelier Drive
from a collecve road, which doesn't permit calming
devices, to a residenal road. We are requesng a study
to allow for residenal street classificaon and speed
humps, which are the only calming devices approved in
the county. We sent leers to Mary Lehman our PG
County Councilwoman, and to Haitham Hijazi, Director
of Dept. of Public Works and Transportaon.
South Laurel Burglaries:
There have been some recent burglaries in the past
week near by in South Laurel. If you are expecng pack-
age deliveries, you might want to ask a trusted neighbor
to hold the packages for you ll you arrive home to pre-
vent the packages from being stolen. Be on the watch
for suspicious cars or suspects in our neighborhood and
report any suspicious acvity to the police. If you see
anyone who you feel does not live here, do not hesitate
to call the police so they can check them out. Also nofy
Richard Mason, Security Chairman, if you do call the
police so I can alert others on the e-mail list of suspi-
cious acvies. We need to keep our community safe
and share informaon. Non-emergency police number is
301-352-1200. For suspicious persons or cars immedi-
ately call 9-1-1.
