Dementia or hearing loss? What you need to knowPresented by Dr. Jennifer Bebee, Au.D., CCC-A, 10 a.m. - F-AAA, Western Colorado Hearing ClinicIf left undiagnosed and untreated, hearing loss can negatively impact a person’s ability to communicate and decrease their overall quality of life. Recent studies have even linked untreated hearing loss with dementia. Since hearing loss is a growing problem, there is cause for concern.
It is important that proper diagnosis and intervention take place in order to facilitate effective communication between you and your loved one, and to improve quality of life for both the dementia and hearing loss pa-tient. This presentation will address the signs of hearing loss compared to dementia (which are often similar), the negative implications of untreated hearing loss, and strategies to help you better communicate with some-one with hearing loss or dementia.
