Environmental Design
Nature is design at best, in my opinion its where everything is at once deeply as practical and extraordinarily beautiful. As a furniture designerz myself, my art pieces incorporate all organic shapes, contrasting materials, and colors to convey my ideas. I hope to express in form the dynamic balace needed in life, between enjoyment and fi ction, rest and action.
I guess I want people to have fun with their experiences more, if that makes sense. I think its something we’ve really gotten too far away from. We all need to slow down. I like creating experiences through my work that really make them love and appreciate more than something we take for granted.

Coffee TableAsh Walnut & Steel Rod
Japanese traditional architecture and furniture is a great inspiration for me. Also, the artists Ted Hunter and Gord Peteran is a big inspira-tion. Ted Gord is a 65 year old guy who is a Master Woodworker. He builds long boards. Awesome. Gord makes some of the most interesting stuff you’ll ever see.

“Designers are the ones that
have to change the world.
We design stupid shit.
So it’s our fault.”

“The last thing I want to do
with the things I make is to
create a ritual. Anyone can
buy a 50 cent pencil case
with a typical zip but there
is no experience. Wood and
the metal work as natural
lubricants, so there is that
personal satisfaction to it.
So in the end it might take
you 10 seconds to open but
you get that close personal
experience along with it.”

What direction you are aiming for in your designs? I like new with new with old. A mix Generally I go with minimalistic, but at the same time crafty and imperfect. Similar to Japanese aesthetic.
Which piece is your favorite and why?
At the moment, the walnut pencil case I made that I called “natural pencil case”. It pretty much sums up who I am as a woodworker. It’s unique and uses a sustainable, local wood.

What do you hope to express and convey with your creations?
I guess I want people to enjoy experiences more. I think it is something we’ve really gotten too far away from. I like creating experiences through my work that really make them appreciate it more. Experience is familiarity, and familiarity is personal.
What would you as a designer like to achieve in the future?
Designers are the ones that have to change the world I think. Every-one is innocent, they just use what we design for them. We design stupid shit. So it’s our fault. So we need to fi x that and reverse it.
