Introducing Moonsweeper

Powerful forces have conquered themoons in Star Quadrant Jupiter 2 andtaken control of the mines. Theminers have escaped, but arestranded on the moons of Jupiter.Pilot the USS Moonsweeper throughdangerous photon torches andsatellites to reach a moon. On themoon, defend your ship from

obstacles and enemies as you rescueminers. Rescue six miners and usethe accelerator rings to pick upspeed. Then, blast off into orbit tobegin another rescue mission.

With Moonsweeper, you

• Control the flight and defense of theUSS Moonsweeper

• Battle evil forces on two differentgame screens

• Enjoy colorful graphics and excitingsound effects

• Progress through increasing levels ofdifficulty in Lhi one-player game

• Use Joystick Controllers or keyboardcontrol

Inserting the Cartridge 4. Slide the cartridge into the slot on theconsole.

1. If you have been programming inBASIC, save your data beforeinserting a cartridge. When you inserta cartridge into the console, thecomputer automatically erases alldata or program material you haveentered and returns to the mastertitle screen to begin the newprogram.

2. Be sure the cartridge is free of staticelectricity before inserting it into thecomputer (see the' 'Maintenance andService" section in this booklet).

3. Turn the computer ON, and wait forthe master title screen to appear.

The Moonsweeper Mission

As the pilot of the USS Moonsweeper.you must rescue the miners strandedon the moons of Jupiter. Maneuveryour ship to destroy photon torchesand satellites in orbit. Then, fly theMoonsweeper to an orbiting moon tobegin the rescue. Beware of towersand hostile surface destroyers! Yourscore increases as you rescue miners

and destroy the enemy's towers, surface destroyers, and launcherships. Once you have rescued the sixminers the Moonsweeper can carry, fly through accelerator rings. Whenyou have gained enough speed, youescape the moon and return toJupiter's orbit to continue yourmission.

Journey to the Moons Leaving Space

As the game begins, you are piloting oneof your five Moonsweepers in Jupiter'sorbit. You must reach one of the moonsto begin your rescue. Dangerousobstacles are also orbiting the planet.Destroy these obstacles as you try toreach amoon.

Pilot the Moonsweeper to one of themoons orbiting Jupiter. When you flyover the moon, you enter its gravityfield and descend automatically.

The colors of the moons indicate levelsof increasing difficulty. Blue and greenmoons can be found in all orbits. Yellowand red moons appear in later orbits.

Rescue on the Moons Leaving the Moon

After you reach a moon, you cruiseabove the lunar surface in search ofminers. You see the miners who arewaiting for rescue from the surface ofthe moon. Swiftly fly over them totransport them aboard your craft.

Dangers on the Moons

The moons hold many dangers for theUSS Moonsweeper. Enemy launcherships drop surface destroyers that firedeadly space bullets from all angles. You must dodge the space bullets whilefiring at enemy craft and rescuingminers.

Watch out for tall towers! A collisionmeans destruction for theMoonsweeper.

Destroy these enemies on the moons:

~ • Surface destroyers

When the USS Moonsweeper has a fullpassenger load of six miners, gain speedby flying through accelerator rings andblast off into orbit.

Jupiter has four orbits, numbered 0through 3. You advance to the nextorbit each time you blast off. After yourthird blast-off, you return to the firstorbit.

Rescue and Defense

Maneuvering the USS Moonsweeperthrough enemy territory requiresstrategy and quick thinking.Transport miners to safety bydodging attackers. Defend your shipby firing short-range and long-rangemissiles. The control panel at thebottom of the screen allows you tomonitor your speed, the direction of

your fire, and the location of theminers. The panel also shows thenumber of the orbit and the numberof remaining Moonsweepers. Watchyour fuel gauge! You lose a ship whenyou run out of fuel.

Reaching the Surface of a Moon Defending the Moonsweeper

You can pilot the Moonsweeper to anyone of the moons orbiting Jupiter. Toreach a moon, fly the Moonsweeperover it.

Rescuing the Miners

As you fly over the moon's surface, maneuver your ship to rescue amaximum of six miners. As your skillsimprove, fly at a fast speed to pick upminers quickly. Confirm a rescue byhearing the sound and seeing a symbolfor the rescued miner appear on thecontrol panel. To rescue miners:

• Watch the radar spotter on yourcontrol panel to see where the nextminer appears

• Pick up miners by flying over them

Blasting Off from a Moon

After you have picked up six miners, accelerator rings appear on the surfaceof the moon. The rings are your onlymeans of reaching blast-off speed. Flythrough the rings until you gain enoughspeed to blast off into space.

If your ship is destroyed before blastingoff, you must pilot your new shipthrough accelerator rings to regainspeed.

6

You have short-range and long-rangemissiles in the Moonsweeper's arsenal.Short-range missiles can be fired morerapidly than long-range.

During your flight through space, allmissiles are long-range and can destroyall obstacles.

For best effect when fighting on amoon, use short-range missiles todestroy surface destroyers and towers.

se long-range missiles to destroylauncher ships.

Scoring

You can have only fiveMoonsweepers at a time. If you havefive Moonsweepers and reach a10,000-point mark, you do notreceive an extra ship, 100 bonuspoints, or a full fuel tank.

You earn 10 points for every satelliteyou destroy in orbit. On the moons, you earn points for rescuing miners, destroying enemies, and blasting offsuccessfully. Point values increaseas you progress to more difficultmoons. For every 10,000 points, youreceive an extra Moonsweeper, 100bonus points, and a full fuel tank.

Maintenance and Service

Caring for the Cartridge In Case of Difficulty

Cartridges are durable devices, butthey should be handled with the samecare you would give any other pieceof software media. Informationconcerning use and service can befound in your User's ReferenceGuide.

Keep the cartridge clean and dry.

Caution: The contents of a cartridgecan be damaged by static electricitydischarges.

Static electricity buildups are morelikely to occur when the humidity of theair is low (during winter and in areaswith dry climates). To avoid damagingthe cartridge, touch any metal object (adoorknob, a desklarnp, etc.) beforehandling it.

If static electricity is a problem whereyou live, you may want to buy a specialcarpet treatment that reduces staticbuildup. These preparations are usuallyavailable from hardware and officesupply dealers.

If the cartridge programs do not appearto be operating properly, return to themaster title screen by pressing QUIT.Withdraw the cartridge, align it withthe cartridge opening, and carefullyreinsert it. Then press any key to makethe master selection screen appear.(Note: In some instances, it may benecessary to turn the computer off, wait several seconds, and then turn iton again.)

If the cartridge is remov d from the slotwhile the cartridge contents are beingused, the computer may behaveerratically. To restore the computer tonormal operation, turn the computeroff and wait a few seconds. Then, reinsert the cartridge and turn thecomputer on again.
