From the Principal, Miss Sarah Perrett

Dear Parents & Care Givers,

I would like to congratulate and commend all

Year 3 and 5 students on completing

NAPLAN online for 2019. As you may be

aware, technical issues were experienced

across Australia, and I am pleased to report

we were fortunate to only experience very

minor issues. I was very impressed with the

attitude of the students who sat NAPLAN. I

didn't witness any anxiety issues, or students

becoming upset. I certainly hope they are

rewarded for their positivity when the results

become available later this year.

The YSSSA Football & Netball Carnival for

Years 3-6 students will occur on Friday 8th

June at the Sports Grounds

in Southern Cross. Last

week, students chose the

sport they would like to play

and permission notes were

sent home.

Staff Development Day & Public Holiday

This year the Staff Development Day for

schools in the Eastern Wheatbelt Network

backs onto the WA Day long weekend.

Parents please be reminded that Friday 31st

May and Monday 3rd are student free days

and school will be closed. School will resume

on Tuesday, 4th June. To those travelling

over the long weekend, we wish you safe

journeys.

Mother’s ‘Pizza & Pamper’ Afternoon

Last week, all students participated in the

National Simultaneous Story-time (NSS). This

event is held annually by the Australian

Library and Information Association. Every

year a picture book, written and illustrated by

Australians is read simultaneously across the

country. This year, the book was ‘Alpacas with

Maracas’ and was read by officers Deb and

Larry from the Southern Cross Police. Thank

you to both Deb and Larry for reading to the

students and promoting attendance and

literacy.

National Simultaneous Story time

Thank you to all the mother’s who attended

the Pizza and Pamper afternoon in week 3. It

was lovely to see the students pampering

their mother’s by giving massages, painting

nails, giving foot scrubs and decorating pho-

to frames. Thank you to Chrissie Nicholl for

organising this event.

Next Thursday afternoon, both the Junior

and Senior room students will participate in

football clinic run by the West Australian

Football Commission. Students are

reminded to wear appropriate footwear and

clothing.

Football Clinic This week we are recognising National

Reconciliation Week (NRW). It is a time for all

Australians to learn about our shared

histories, cultures, and achievements, and to

explore how each of us can contribute to

achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Planting Seedlings

On Monday the 20th of May, we planted seedlings in the vegie gar-

den. First we got some gloves so we didn’t get our hands dirty. Next

we poked some holes with our finger in the ground for the seedling

to go into. Then we got the seedlings to put in the garden and each

one of us got to put about one or two in the holes that we made.

After that we watered them with the watering cans all of us got a

turn of watering them. It was so fun!!
