HOME LEARNING Reception 23/04/20 Morning Message Good morning, We hope you are all ready to start another beautiful day. Since the school closed, there have been lots of birthdays in Reception. Alec, Arthur Mc, Clio, Diyan, Nancy, Oliver, George and Aalin have all celebrated their birthdays and we would like to wish them a big happy birthday from everyone in Reception Paris and Reception France. We usually sing happy birthday to all our pupils on their birthday but since we can’t do that this year, we have this song instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90w2RegGf9w . Today we will continue to learn about patterns and will also learn a new phonic sound and practise our tricky words. Make sure to choose or finish off some creative or understanding the world tasks, too. School Jam tasks are set and ready for you to complete so please log in and have a go at these. Remember to try your best and, most importantly, have fun! Parents and carers, remember to take pictures/short videos of your child and upload them onto 2Simple (see email previously sent on how to do this). We can then upload these to your child’s individual profile and leave a comment. We can’t wait to see what you have been up to. We hope you have a brilliant Thursday. • Writing A genius inventor has discovered a new way to travel! What do you think he has invented? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No - it is an eco-friendly flying machine! He has called it ‘Zepper 2016’. Can you design your own new mode of transport? Think about how and why it is different to current types of transport. Extension: Can you write a sentence about how it works?

Reading and Phonics Reading Today we would like the children to read to their parents. You can use one of your own books or log into Oxford Reading Owl and choose an appropriately levelled book. These books are sorted into coloured bands just like the ones your child gets from school. Make sure you choose the colour band that your child is already on. Talk about the characters in the book. Maybe think about a new character that you could add to the story to make it more fun - maybe even a mischievous character! Or maybe together you could make up your own stories, drawing pictures to match. Phonics Today we would like you to focus on the ‘oa’ sound. Watch this video and try to join in with Geraldine the giraffe - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCJyHN0IFE8. Can you look around your home for things that might include the ‘oa’ sound? Now watch this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeGEgUcSMEs. Can you blend the sounds together to read the words? Parents and carers, mute or pause the video so your child can try to read the words independently, then together with Mr T. Encourage your child to read the sentence at the end of the video. You may need to pause it to give your child time to decode/read the sentence. Continue to practise your Set 1 and 2 tricky words (I, no, go, to, the, into, he, she, me, we, be, was, are). Parents and carers, please also introduce the new tricky word ‘my’. Challenge: Have a go at ‘say, cover, write’. Say the tricky word, cover it over and have a go at writing it. You can use your whiteboard for this activity. Can you remember your new tricky word?

  • Maths Today we are going to be learning about patterns. Take a look at the image below:

Look at patterns 1 and 2. Can you answer the following questions: Can you say the patterns out loud? What is the core of each pattern? Can you describe it? Can you see any mistakes in the patterns? Now try to make patterns 1 and 2 without the mistakes. What could you use to represent each item? Look at all the patterns (1, 2, 3). Are all of these patterns the same? Which one is different? How is it different? Can you make pattern 3 using knives, forks and spoons? Can you show the same type of pattern using cups, plates and bowls (or red, yellow and blue cubes)? Can you make all of the patterns correctly? Parents and carers, explain to your child that patterns 1 and 2 are AB patterns (meaning they have a repeat/sequence of 2) while pattern 3 is an ABC pattern (meaning it has a repeat/sequence of 3).

    3

  • Can you describe the patterns below? AB pattern

    ABC pattern

What is the same and what is different about these two patterns? Can you make your own AB and ABC patterns? What objects will you use? Can you say your pattern out loud? Challenge: Find a partner and each make an ABC pattern. Do you think you can add a mistake to your pattern? Can your partner spot the mistake? Can you continue (add onto) your partners pattern?

Physical Development How many of these actions can you complete? How many times can you do each action?

  • Topic Work ( for the week) Creative Task 1 Go into your garden or out for your daily walk and collect some leaves, twigs and flowers. Can you create some nature brushes to paint with?

Task 2 Spring is here! Look outside or go into your garden and draw some of the signs of spring that you can see. Task 3 Can you make a chick hand puppet like the one below? You can find the instructions here: https://kidscraftroom.com/handprint-chick-puppets/

  • Task 4 Collect some pretty flowers from your garden and put them in a cup. Fill it with water and place it in the freezer. Remove the ice block from the cup and explore the flowers as the ice melts.

Task 5 Make some pretend soup with different things you can find in your garden or home. Maybe you could make a flower soup using the flowers from your ice block! What do you think your soup might taste like? Understanding the World Task 1 This week, we will be learning about chicks! What do you already know about chicks and chickens? What would you like to know? Here are some key words that you will need to know – incubate, hatch, fertilised egg. Can you find out what these words mean? Task 2 Watch this video of a chick hatching from an egg - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi8EE90UC3I How do you think the chick will change as it grows? How long do you think it will take for the chick to become an adult chicken?

    about:blank

  • Task 3 Look at the images below explaining the life cycle of a chick and discuss with your parents or siblings:

Do you remember what ‘incubate’ means? Why do you think a chicken needs to incubate the egg? Do you think the chick is able to run around as soon as it hatches from the egg?

  • Task 4 If possible, print the images and descriptions below. Can you cut them out and match them up correctly? Put them in the correct order to create the life cycle of a chick.
