The Dow saw some volatility before eventually joining the broader Nasdaq and S&P 500 firmly in positive territory. The major averages pulled back off their highs going into the close but held on to strong gains. The Dow jumped 217.08 points or 0.9 percent to 25,812.88, the Nasdaq spiked 184.61 points or 1.9 percent to 10,058.77 and the S&P 500 surged up 47.05 points or 1.5 percent to 3,100.29. Domestic shares pared early gains to end on a flat note Tuesday. While rate- sensitive auto and banking stocks gained ground, energy and healthcare stocks paced the declines ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation later in the day. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex ended the session down 45.72 points, or 0.13 percent, at 34,915.80, while the broader NSE Nifty index slid 10.30 points, or 0.10 percent, to finish at 10,302.10. On Tuesday’s trading session, FIIs sold net Rs 2000.08 cr in cash market whereas, DII bought net Rs 2051.31 cr in cash segment. Market Sensor

Extending the strong upward move seen in the previous session, U.S. stocksmoved notably higher over the course of the trading day on Tuesday. TheDow saw some volatility before eventually joining the broader Nasdaq andS&P 500 firmly in positive territory. The major averages pulled back off theirhighs going into the close but held on to strong gains. The Dow jumped217.08 points or 0.9 percent to 25,812.88, the Nasdaq spiked 184.61 pointsor 1.9 percent to 10,058.77 and the S&P 500 surged up 47.05 points or 1.5percent to 3,100.29.

Domestic shares pared early gains to end on a flat note Tuesday. While rate-sensitive auto and banking stocks gained ground, energy and healthcarestocks paced the declines ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's addressto the nation later in the day. Economic News

❖In a marked departure from the original plan, states took advantage ofcheap market rates and borrowed extra. Seven state governments in lineto borrow Rs 9,000 crore, ended up borrowing Rs 12,000 crore from themarkets. (BS)

❖Direct investment into the country rose by $19 billion while portfolioinvestment declined by $13.7 billion during 2019-20, according to thedata on the International Investment Position (IIP) released by theReserve Bank on Tuesday. (BS)

❖The main downside risk to India's growth forecast is the continuedspread of the Covid-19 pandemic as the health crisis has not yet beencontained, a top IMF official said on Tuesday, noting that the country'snear-term growth outlook continues to be clouded by the global anddomestic slowdown and uncertainties relating to the coronavirus. (BS)

❖The Centre’s fiscal deficit for the first two months of financial year2020-21 (FY21) came in at Rs 4.66 trillion, or 58.6 per cent of the fullyear target of Rs 7.96 trillion. (BS)

❖Output of the 8 core sectors of the economy shrank by 23.4 per cent inMay, as factories remained hamstrung by a lack of labour and cash in thewake of the nationwide coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown. (BS)

❖The government's total liabilities increased 0.8 per cent to Rs 94.62trillion at March-end 2020 as compared to the preceding quarter, afinance ministry report said on Tuesday. (BS)

❖Fitch Ratings on Tuesday cut India's growth forecast for 2021-22 fiscalto 8 per cent from 9.5 per cent projected last month. It retained itsprojection of Indian economy contracting by 5 per cent in the currentfiscal. (BS)

❖Amid reports of the RBI mulling restructuring of loans, global ratingagency S&P on Tuesday said that a loan recast will only defer NPAsrecognition and not solve the problem. (BS)

❖The PM has announced an extension for the PM Garib Kalyan AnnaYojana till November, which was quite expected. The scheme wasoriginally announced in March for three months and would have lapsedin June. (BS)

❖India's marine fish production registered a marginal increase of 2.1 percent in 2019 compared to the previous year with the country recording3.56 million tonnes in total landings from across coasts during the year,the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute said. (BS)

❖Goldman Sachs Group is telling clients in India to fortify their balancesheets to prepare for the uncertainty brought by the coronaviruspandemic. (BS)

Domestic News

❖ Indian conglomerate Essar Group made a binding offer to Brazil'sPetroleo Brasileiro SA to buy the country's second largest oil refinery, twopeople with knowledge of the matter said on Tuesday.

❖ Jindal Steel & Power (Mauritius), or JSPML, a subsidiary of NaveenJindal-led Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) said on Tuesday that it hasaccepted a binding offer from Templar Investments to divest its entirestake in its Oman asset, Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel (JSIS Oman).

❖The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on Tuesday reserved itsorder on the State Bank of India plea against Anil Ambani to recover overRs 1,200 crore under the personal guarantee clause of the bankruptcy law.

❖State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) reported apre-tax loss of Rs 10,529 crore in the fourth quarter of financialyear 2019-20 (Q4FY20) because of a drop in crude oil prices, theimpact of the lockdown, and exchange losses.

❖Exide Life Insurance has registered a 88.7 per cent jump in netprofit at Rs 28.3 crore for fiscal year ended March 2020.

❖ In a first, India's biggest LNG importer Petronet on Tuesday saidit is close to signing a long-term LNG deal benchmarked to daily orspot prices, which generally are lower than standard rates of suchcontracts.

❖Days after issuing an order asking its zonal offices to terminatethe services of over 500 contractual hospitality supervisors, theIRCTC has now decided to keep the order in abeyance till furthernotice.

❖The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council has said it isflooded with distress calls from its member companies over acutedisruption in manufacturing of products during the past few daysdue to non-clearance of imported raw materials at various ports.

❖Reliance Jio added a whopping 6.25 million users and VodafoneIdea lost 3.5 million users during the same month. Subscribers ofBharti Airtel and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) rose by 922,946and 439,318, respectively.

❖Bharat Biotech’s Covid vaccine candidate Covaxin is set toundergo human clinical trials in July. It was developed at the firm’sGenome Valley plant in Hyderabad, in collaboration with the IndianCouncil of Medical Research (ICMR).

❖The finance ministry on Tuesday said banks have sanctionedover Rs 1 trillion loans under the Rs 3-trillion Emergency CreditLine Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for the MSME sector reeling undercoronavirus-induced economic slowdown.

❖HDFC Bank seeks to raise Rs 50,000 crore through the issuanceof additional tier-I (AT1) and tier-II bonds. Further, it plans toacquire home loans worth Rs 28,000 crore from promoter HDFC, inFY21.
