Mother’s Day at Strong Tower!

One of the goals of Strong Tower’s existence is that it

would provide contact with student’s families thereby the

opportunity to present the Gospel of God’s grace. Special

occasions such as these help achieve that goal and the

growth of the student body this year has made these

events both exciting and

challenging. Over two hundred

adults were on hand for the

program besides the 160 students,

and the seed of the Gospel was

sown in their hearts. Please pray

for it to germinate and bring forth

fruit unto eternal life.

Newcomers at Morningstar

One of the cultural peculiarities encountered

due to the area’s geography is that Ferreñafe is the

“big town” to which Quechua speaking Andes

Mountain dwellers migrate. Oversized and

economically challenged families tend to bring a child or

two into town and leave them with relatives or

acquaintances at an early age in the hopes they will

obtain an education and thereby a better future than

their illiterate parents. Many times these situations

degrade into abuse and neglect. When that happens, the

local authorities turn to Morningstar to provide the

protection and care these children need. Margarita was one of the unusual cases whose parents responded

quickly to the news of her plight and came down from their little hamlet in the mountains to get her back the

very next day, her little brothers chapped cheeks a classic sign of the cold and altitude in which they live.

Rita, who was also entrusted to Morningstar this month, is more the norm, her

parents thus far being either unwilling or unable to show up, she will continue in

our care until her case moves through the legal system. While they are here they

learn of God’s love and we pray primarily for their salvation a well as the secure and

loving family environment they should be able to enjoy while getting a first rate

education at Strong Tower. An interesting side line in her case is that while looking

through some photo albums soon after she arrived she pointed to Deysi who just

recently left Morningstar when she was adopted and said, “I know her!”. As it turns

out, she is from the same part of the mountains as Deysi and may even be related.

Passengers getting off a bus that arrived in late in the

evening from out of town alerted police that there was

a nine month old baby boy that had been left on one of

the very back seats. The judge that caught the case

called us close to midnight to pick him up at the police

station. With no clues as to his identity, we call him

Solomon for now and other than being a little

malnourished and being host to 3 different kinds of

parasites, he’s in perfect shape. A lengthy investigation

lies ahead in cases like these and whatever the result

will be, he’ll be loved and cared for (and probably

spoiled a little) during his time at Morningstar.

This past week, officials from the government agency in

Lima that both certifies and supervises Morningstar stopped in for an inspection. We are happy to report they

were very pleased with all aspects of the operation.

The evangelistic outreach team from the assembly here is on its monthly visit to Pelingara this weekend but

will return in time for tomorrow’s baptismal service and fellowship dinner. Lord willing three more new

believers will be baptized, one of them being Perla the 9 year old in Morningstar’s House #2.

Thank you for your interest and support of the ministry here.
