In order to offer skiers in Morzine an alternative to

“traditional” alpine skiing and allow beginners to try

out Freeskiing in a safe environment, this project

is planning to install a training Air Bag on the Mas

Verjus piste (by the Pleney telecabines) with the

following on offer:

• Specific training sessions for advanced level riders

• A staffed area free for all skiers at certain times of

the day

• Regular events around the Air Bag to promote

the Mas Verjus area with participation from world

class riders including: Kevin Rolland, Jules Bonaire,

Romain Grosjean and Xavier Bertoni…

And when news gets out that Avoriaz’s famous

Stash freestyle zone will be extended to the Super

Morzine area with the all new “Lil’ Stash” creating

new natural features and more spots to have fun

On December 10th and 11th, The Morzine Tourist Office will once again be hosting its festive event marking the opening of the resort for winter. Lively shows and fun events will guarantee a successful start to the winter season!

In partnership with Morzine shop owners and

many local associations, this show dedicated to

homewares, fashion and personal equipment is a

two day event presenting all the latest products

you need to be ready for the upcoming winter

season.

Included in the stands showing the latest in

mountain trends for the 2016/17 winter:

put on by local Morzine boutiques and shops

(sportswear, ski and snowboard wear and

Learn while having fun…

Among the runs you can access:

• Le Chemin des Zouzous: a forest run that leads

back down into town and where you discover the

local animal wildlife as you go. You are guided

along by the life-size animals carved out of wood,

such as the fox, the deer or the wolf that are waiting

for you around the next bend of this fun-filled trail.

Our goal is for parents and kids to enjoy the fun of

skiing together, on a 2 km long piste that has both

turns and bumps following the natural slope and is

away from the main flow of skiers.

• Le Boarder Pingouins : a specially shaped zone

with a penguin theme, mascot of the Morzine

sports teams. In an arctic setting, kids go through

small banked turns, a slalom, a tunnel and gentle

rollers…

• The beginner piste : a new 200 m

long canopy covered magic carpet for

more comfort and safety.

During the winter season, the family resort and kids paradise that is Morzine organises weeks with themes catering to all ages. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share magical family time together. December 17th to 31st: “Les Féeries de Noël”

Over the end of year Holidays, Morzine brings you two weeks of fairy-tale spectacles around the theme

of lights. The first is aimed at younger children and the second week is more for teens. New light shows,

free activities, games, workshops, stage shows, concerts with DJs… at the Tourist Office central square and

surrounding streets, get ready to be enchanted by all the magic!

Lights that will outshine the starlit sky

• a Christmas tree glittering with 150 lights: standing at three and a half meters tall and surrounded by 100 FirePots at its base, the candlelit Christmas tree has 24 branches that carry its 50 FirePots.

• and also a lit up decor on December 30th and 31st, made up of structures, balloons, and glowing totem poles, visible from the centre of town all the

way up to the Pleney lift station.

Event Highlights• Les Amants Flammes: a poetic love story between

fire and snow, played by the Attrap’Lune troop, a

lively and upbeat show, full of humour, love, dance,

juggling and fire, showcasing spectacular theatrics.

It’s sensitive and original, taking spectators through

a whirlwind of lyrical images, snow embers, showers

of light, bursts of fire and graphic juggling.

• LightinRiders: this ballet on the slopes is a

reinvented take on the traditional torch-lit descent

that will be put on by the EliXir troop, a group of

actors, musicians, dancers and artists that have

composed a show bursting with colours, that is a

truly captivating street theatre performance.

• Le petit bal pour tous Chaps’ approach is to be interactive and playful with his spectators. Singer, guitarist, audience warm-up person AND presenter, he has designed a “concert show” type of concept that uses a repertoire that spans all generations. Crowd participation and improvisation are the key, and the idea is simple: everyone dances together.

A show overflowing with colour• Percu astrale: a musical and visual parade, that will make

Morzine shake to the sound of drums, conducted by musicians and stilt walkers dressed in lights.

• Astro Diva: a celestial stroll alongside a fabulous diva who shoots out new constellations and new worlds, while all around, a fabulous troop of magical characters (the Astros), and light creatures, skilfully juggle and do acrobatics, before the grand finale, with close at hand pyrotechnics and fire stunts.

An event for all the little champion skiers in training:

The Morzine Association of Shopkeepers is organising The Race of Champions on 9th April 2017. Coordinated in conjunction with the Portes du Soleil, this big end of season race takes place in the Pléney-Nyon ski area. Open to young skiers aged 8 to 17 years old, it’s a great event for young skiers to meet and mingle with Portes du Soleil champions, current and former members of the French and Swiss National Teams in all disciplines (Alpine skiing, nordic skiing, snowsports for disabled skiers, cross-country skiing, snowboard, ski mountaineering, telemarking, …).

A unique opportunity to brush shoulders with world-class athletes, and get coaching by champions such as

Cyprien Richard, Yohann Taberlet, Johann Baisamy, Alexis Sevennec, Anthony Chalencon and Ben Cavet who

will be on hand to guide and give advice to all the participants.

Open to all the ski clubs in the area, to non ski-club local residents, as well as to children visiting on holiday, all of whom will have the opportunity throughout the winter to earn a qualification spot for this huge end of season event! To be selected you must sign up and compete in la Flèche, a giant slalom race organised by the ESF every Thursday. Being enrolled in the ESF classes is not an obligation. Children who qualify will have the opportunity to come back and participate in the race at the end of the season and to test their skills up against those of the kids in and around Morzine.

This race will be the closing event for the “Morzine Aime les Enfants” (Morzine Loves Kids) week, with many

special deals offered to the qualified child racers: accommodation, lift passes, swimming pool and ice rink

entry…

The event will be followed in the afternoon by a big parade through the streets of the village, with prize-giving

by the champion athletes.

Cousseau, you will be taught the techniques for reaching optimal speed, through positioning and placement. Come and find out how fast you can go downhill and improve your performance, while reaching speeds of over 80, 90 or 100km/h for the most astute skiers. New for this year The ESF is launching each Sunday outside of the school holidays a wellbeing morning from 9:15 to 11:45.

Come and try out a very original Morzine moment of on-piste yogaIn an idyllic setting that’s ideal for relaxation, Morzine

has created the first yoga ski run in France with this

series of 10 postures along a snowy run in the Nyon

sector. These poses aim to free your mind while

preparing the body for wintersports and are executed

with your skis on.

Yoga Ski PisteOrganised for groups of 3 to 6 people, this morning

combines a ski yoga lesson, to start the week

serenely and prepare for the effort of the snowsports

to come + stopping off for a drink and a moment of

relaxation on a sunny terrace at the Pointe de Nyon

restaurant.

Price is 50€ per person including entry to the SPA.

Use this any day of the week it doesn’t have to be on

the Sunday.

To allow parents to make the most of their holiday

time, the resort puts at your disposal the services of

l’Outa, a day-care centre located in the centre of the

town. Offering

• a baby services (3 months to 16 months) with

room and three rooms with five to six beds,

• an area dedicated to older ones (16 months to 5

years), with playroom, activities room, changing

room, toilets and 3 rooms with 5 to 6 beds

• a kitchen and a garden with covered terrace

L’Outa can care for up to 35 children at a time from 3

months to 5 years old. It is open Sunday to Friday

from 18th December 2016 to mid-April 2017 (by

advance booking).

European Alpine Border Customs Championships!After Méribel in 2006 and Megève in 2011 it is Morzine’s turn to host the competition organised every 5 years on French soil. Requiring a logistical effort equivalent to putting on a major European cup race and giving points toward FIS, it brings together the best nordic and alpine ski racers in France, Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

Pinturault, Worley, Fanara, Muffat Jeandet, Barioz, Baud Mugnier, Dorin-Habert and Beatrix for France,

Dopfer, Rebensburg and Schempp for Germany, Gross and Moelgg representing Italy, Brem and Noesig

for Austria…. Whether they are military or border guards, all these competitors, after having raced at the

Alpine World Championships in Saint Moritz, will come together on the pistes of Morzine to represent their

country’s flag. In the Nordic disciplines, The French National Team with Fourcade, Magnificat and Duvillard

are expected to be favourites on race day.
