Phineas, and the plague.• Israel is again numbered by Moses and this time – Eleazar.• He receives all the instructions regarding Israel’s inheritance.• The matter of the daughters of Zelophehad arises and needs

to be dealt with.• He deals with the request of the 2.5 tribes and performs all

the administration and organization it required to give their inheritance on the east of Jordan.

• In great detail he gives all of the borders of the promised land.• At the command of God, he organizes the men of each tribe

who are to oversee the inheritance (Numbers 34:16-29)• He establishes the 3 cities of refuge on the east and gives

commandment concerning the 3 on the west as well as the levitical cities.

• He sends Israel to war against Midian at the command of God (when Baalam is killed) and he carefully follows the instructions regarding the spoil of Midian.

• He prays for a successor and consequently lays his hands upon Joshua, giving him a charge before all the congregation.• Reminds the people of their duties in their offering and

feast days (Numbers 28-30)• And he will give all the speeches contained in the book of

Deuteronomy, including another song and the tribal blessings.

God’s Faithful Servant

“After Moses had gone he was often talked about. Not now in disparagement or doubt but always with the confidence and assurance that he had been a man of God. His description, recorded so often and fitting perfectly our consideration of him, is Moses, the servant of the Lord. He would not have asked for anything other than that. Such had been his whole desire and the Holy Spirit in paying witness to him through the words of other prophets has made it clear that God, too, regarded him as His faithful servant.”
