BLESSED When we think of the word “Beatitude” we think of today’s discourse from Luke’s Gospel, or the more familiar one from Matthew (which begins “Blessed are the poor in spirit . . . ”). Actually, beatitudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John’s Gospel, Christ proclaims, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed” (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteristics that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteristics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the “Blessed,” for they are the ones who lived the “blessed” life as described by Jesus throughout the Gospels. How blest are we, when we also stive to make our own days a living beatitude!
BIENAVENTURADOS O DICHOSOS Cuando pensamos en la palabra “bienaventuranza” pensamos en el discurso de hoy del Evangelio según Lucas, o en el más familiar según Mateo (que comienza “Dichosos lo que tienen espíritu de pobre . . .”). En realidad, las bienaventuranzas ocurren en los profetas y evangelios. Hoy, en Jeremías (con un eco en el salmo) oímos: “Bendito el hombre que confía en el Señor” (Jeremías 17:7). Luego de su resurrección en el Evangelio de san Juan, Cristo proclama: “¡Dichosos los que creen sin haber visto!” (Juan 20:29). Los evangelistas colocaron estos dichos por todos los evangelios como cortos recordatorios sobre las características de quien sigue a Cristo, características que ayudarán a diseminar la Buena Nueva en esta vida y llevarnos a la dicha eterna en la próxima. En latín, los santos son llamados Beati o “Beatos” porque son aquellos que viven la vida “feliz” descrita por Jesús en los evangelios. ¡Qué dichosos somos cuando nos esforzamos por hacer de nuestros días bienaventuranzas vivas!

I am writing as a constituent to ask your opposition to “Assisted Suicide’ Bill currently introduced in the legislature-S1072. This bill states that six-month prognosis for a terminal illness will determine a decision to end an individual’s life, which is not always accurate. As well, permission would be given that the death certificate state that cause of death resulted from underlying illness, which is blatantly false because the self-administered drugs ended the person’s life. This bill sends an erroneous message to our youth and military personnel who are struggling, inviting greater option toward suicide if pain is experienced. The use of medical science to euthanise rather than eradicate illness is contrary to why this profession is respected in its assistance to the dying and not in any capacity of killing the patient. Procesión Pro-Vida
El 24 de marzo, domingo, la vigilia de la anunciación del Señor a María
habrá una procesión con velas y la imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, patrona de los
No-Nacidos desde la esquina de Marquet Street y Wilson Street. (Al borde de la calle a través de la
clínica de “Planned Parenthood”). Iniciamos con rezos por el fin del aborto y la
conversión de los corazones de los legisladores en la asamblea estatal y nacional, y cumplimos una
caminata a la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Fátima para celebrar la misa de 5:30pm con una
intención especial para la vida humana. Hay que responder en oración y suplicar para que la
gracia de Dios nos ilumine y nos fortalezca en defensa de los más vulnerables.
*Las familias de catecismo están invitados en una manera especial.
Pro-Life Procession
On March 24, Sunday, the vigil of the Annunciation of the Lord to Mary there will be a procession with candles and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron saint of the Unborn from the corner of Market Street and Wilson Street. (On the edge of the street through the "Planned Parenthood" clinic). We began with prayers for the end of abortion and the conversion of the hearts of the legislators in the state and national assembly, and we will complete a walk to the parish of Our Lady of Fatima to celebrate the 5:30 pm Mass with a special intention for the human life. Please join as we respond in prayer and pray for the grace of God to enlighten us and strengthen us in defense of the most vulnerable.
