The event took place shortly after Peter’s confession of faith that Jesus was, indeed, the Messiah. In today’s second reading from Peter, we hear his personal testimony. This comes from a man who spent more than three years with Jesus. Peter witnessed his humanity. He saw Jesus hungry, tired, and finally, rejected and crucified. But he also saw Jesus feed the 5,000, walk on water, heal the sick, and raise the dead. He saw Jesus in his glory when he was transfigured. He saw Jesus risen from the dead and ascend into heaven with the promise that he is coming again in power and glory. How strong is the stewardship of our own faith? Do we accept Peter’s apostolic witness to Jesus as Christ? Does this testimony help us acknowledge and trust Christ Jesus as our Lord and savior? August 6, 2017 - Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and in today’s Gospel reading we hear it proclaimed that on Mount Tabor, Peter, James, and John caught a glimpse of Jesus’ divinity strong enough to strike fear into their hearts.

Padre Roberto

Dear Parishioners: Last month I wrote to you about our Parish Assessment and Renewal program (PAR) with a promise that I would be updating you on some of the accomplishments of the various commissions. The Outreach Commission which includes our pantry, St. Vincent de Paul, Homeless Ministry, Health Ministry, Knights of Columbus, Comunidad Activa Socorro, Grupos Activos, Los Amigos, Bereavement Ministry and Detention Ministry has set as its goal for the coming year the involvement of an additional 200 parishioners in social ministry outreach. In order to provide those opportunities, the Outreach Commission of our parish along with PACT and the Diocese of San Jose is offering here at MHT a series of information/involvement workshops throughout the coming year. It is called “Matthew 25: Lord, when did we see you…” The various social justice topics will include immigration, food insecurity, the environment, universal health care, homelessness/affordable housing, restorative justice, and labor issues. Each workshop, lasting 90 minutes, will include a presentation of the issue by a speaker knowledgeable of the topic, a chance for discussion and then an offering of possible ways in which to become involved here in the parish, in the diocese or the county. Our first presentation will be this Tuesday August 8 at 7 PM in the Community Room of our Trinity Center. Fr. Jon Pedigo of the Diocese of San Jose will speak on the challenging topic of immigration. All are welcome! Fr. Bob

From the Pastor/Notas Del Parroco

The Book of Daniel, from which our First Reading is drawn, was written some two centuries before the birth of Christ. This is only significant in that many of the prophets (Daniel is considered one of the major prophets) lived as many as six centuries before Christ. However, regardless the timeline, we need to be moved by and appreciative of the prophecies we find in the Old Testament. In the particular passage in today’s reading it states, “The one like a Son of Man received dominion, glory, and kingship.” Today, of course, is the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and this reading very much parallels what is portrayed in the Transfiguration. The interesting point within this reading from Daniel, however, is that it refers to the “Son of Man,” which is the term Jesus Himself used most often to describe Himself. We have referenced this fact previously. In fact, the term “Son of Man” occurs 85 times in the Gospels, and in 83 of them it is Jesus who uses the term. (It appears 32 times in Matthew; 15 times in Mark; 26 times in Luke; and 12 times in John, and it is in John where it is used twice by someone other than Jesus.) The important point for us is that Jesus calling Himself the Son of Man explains that He was born of a woman, and He shares in our earthly conditions and sufferings. That fact should make us want to embrace Him as our Savior, our Friend, and our Shepherd even more. Filed Under: Stewardship Bulletin Reflections by Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc.

Prevention Magazine (January 2017) spoke to people who NEVER get sick to find out what they believe works for them. These are real people who shared their beliefs. “I cut up lemons and put them in the fridge. Every morning I squeeze one into water and add 5 drops of honey”. (Can’t remember the last time she was sick) “I’ve eaten yogurt every day for 30 years. I tell jokes and make my patients laugh”. (May have had a cold 10 years ago) “I have 4 kids and we’re outside all the time. Being out in the fresh air is so much better than being in a closed environment that harbors germs”. (Hasn’t been sick in 6 years) “I run almost 3 miles almost daily. I swim once or twice a week. I climb stairs and walk everywhere”. (Jim is 80 years old, can’t remember the last time he was sick) “I have a smoothie every morning. I use avocado, banana, berries, leafy greens, chia, hem or flax seed”. (Hasn’t been sick in 4 years) “I wash my hands a zillion times a day”. (Can’t remember the last time she was sick) “I work with 2 or 3 people who are chronic complainers. Every winter they’re hacking and achy and sick. I take the approach of keeping a positive attitude. I’m grateful for every day”. (Gets sick briefly maybe once a year) “I take vitamin C and zinc twice a day all year round”. (Hasn’t been sick in nearly 3 years)

Digo bromas y hago reír a mis pacientes ". Subo escaleras y camino a todas partes ".
