The Most Sacred Heart WayAs March is winding down, how might we take another look at this commitment?
I will respect the wisdom of past traditions and be open to new ideas and perspectives.
Even in our own families, this becomes an important skill to implement as members come and go. Finding herself in this position, one such parishioner wrote to us:
“ My sister-in-law passed away a few years ago, and when my brother re-married, his wife was unaware of a long-held birthday tradition. I remembered this commitment as I gently pulled her aside and caught her up to speed on our tradition, and then asked her how we might combine her thoughts with what the family had known and cherished for so many years. We really bonded over the conversation.”
Where do you see this being lived out? Do you or someone you know do this well? Send your story to [email protected]

Please Take One (or more) to Pray With Throughout LentFor Kids: For God So Loved
Young children (4-8) readily understand that Lent is a time to get ready for Easter. But they may not understand why we start out with ashes on our foreheads, don’t eat meat on Fridays in Lent, or give up things like candy for 40 days. This interactive sticker book presents the central Catholic practices of Lent and, most importantly, explains why we do
what we do—to draw closer to God. With the help of a parent or teacher, children apply colorful stickers as they learn about this sacred season of the Church Year.
For Families: Our Path of Love and Daily Mass Readings Calendar with Reflections
Simple but profound, easy but deeply meaningful, this is the perfect booklet for families to enter into Lent’s powerful message of God’s unending love.
For Adults: Daily Reflections for Lent – Not by Bread Alone 2019
Prayerfully journey through Lent with Mary DeTurris Poust's fresh and meaningful reflections on the daily Mass readings. In just minutes per day, the insightful meditations of Not by Bread Alone can deepen your experience of this solemn season of prayer and penance and prepare you to participate more fully in the joy of the great Easter mystery.
For Everyone: Rice Bowls to help the PoorA cardboard CRS Rice Bowl is a tool for families to use to collect their Lenten alms. Each bowl comes with a Lenten calendar with short reflections for each day of Lent.

2019 Lenten OpportunitiesEach year God gives us the season of Lent to help deepen within us all that is good. Through prayer, sacrifice and sharing with the poor, God wants to help transform our hearts that we might be more like his Son. These pages list some of the Lenten opportunities available here at Most Sacred Heart, in your home, and in the Archdiocese. May this Lent be filled with grace and goodness. May God help us live these days well.

“I AM” Stewardship PrayerMy parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. It will be holy, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring others into worship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity and mercy, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all things that I want my parish to be. Amen.
