In December 2015 the Dutch Parliament approved one extra million euro for Iraq and e Ministry of foreign Affairs and the Dutch Relief Alliance agreed to include these funds in the North-Iraq Joint Response 2 (NIJR2). e NIJR2 members agreed to use these funds for the humanitarian operation in support of the Mosul and Hawija liberation. e humanitarian operation in Mosul is one of the largest humanitarian responses in 2016. Up to one million people may be impacted. e most immediate needs are for water, food, emergency shelter, and medical assistance. Women and girls, particularly those subjected to gender and sexual-based violence, require specialized support, as will men and boys of a certain age, who are likely to be targeted, arrested, detained or recruited and women and children who might be used as human shields. The Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA) responds to major international crises in a timely and effective manner. The Alliance is a cooperation of 14 Dutch NGO’s, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cordaid leads the joint responses in Iraq on behalf of the Dutch Relief Alliance. CARE, Cordaid, Dorcas, ICCO Kerk in actie, Oxfam, Tear, Terre des Hommes, Save the Children, Stichting Vluchteling, War Child, World Vision, ZOA.

THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACTIVITIES Focus on meeting the basic needs of newly displaced populations in the main priority sectors: Food Security / Livelihoods, Health, Shelter/Non-Food items, Protection and WASH for 54.360.

THE PREPAREDNESS ACTIVITIES Focus on the prepositioning of stocks and in the capacity building of local staff for the Mosul and Hawija response in child protection, psychological First Aid, and security of frontline humanitarian workers. The prepositioning refers mainly to full NFI kits with basic hygiene kits, basic emergency shelter kits, winterization kits and medical supplies such as medicines and basic equipment for mobile clinics.
