Frequently Asked Questions Do I need a motorcycle permit before taking the course? No, but there is an advantage to having a motorcycle permit before taking the course. If you are age 18 or older and have a valid Minnesota driver’s license and motorcycle instruction permit, the riding skills test for your motorcycle endorsement will be waived if you successfully complete the Basic Rider Course (BRC). If you are under 18, you must take BRC before you can get your permit. All students under 18 MUST have a parent/ guardian signature to participate. How is the Basic Rider course structured? In this 14.5 hour course, the first 4.5 hours of the course are instructional in a classroom. A written test will be given at the end of this first class. The remaining 10 hours of the course are riding, with a riding skill test given on the last day of the class. Where do I go for my first class and riding instruction? The first classroom session for all classes meets on Century College East Campus, 3300 Century Ave N, White Bear Lake, MN 55110. Are motorcycles provided? Motorcycles are provided for the Basic Rider and Introduction to Motorcycling/Scootering classes. Intermediate Rider students are expected to bring their own motorcycle. Intermediate and experienced riders MUST also provide proof of valid insurance. What do I need to bring? You must wear or bring the required protective gear including: • Eye protection • Long pants with no tears or holes • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket • Sturdy footwear that cover your ankles • Full-fingered gloves • DOT-approved helmet What if I need to cancel my registration? You will receive a full refund if we receive your cancellation three full business days before the first class date. We cannot issue refunds for cancellations received within three business days of the first class date. Should a class be canceled due to insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund. Do I need a motorcycle permit before taking the course?No, but there is an advantage to having a motorcycle permit before taking the course.
