It is amazing and very exciting to me that a small ideawe had back in 1993 will be celebrating its twentiethanniversary in 2013. In that time, the Festival ofSpeed has established its place as the world’s leadingcelebration of car culture, attracting the greatestcollection of automotive, motorcycling and motorsport competitors anywhere on the planet.

I wasn’t too certain if anyone would be interested incoming along to our very first event all those yearsago. We expected around 2,500 people, and over25,000 turned up! Today the Festival attracts over185,000 enthusiastic and knowledgeable spectatorsto the hallowed Goodwood Park, and I think it is safeto say that the event now looks like it is here to stay!

We will be celebrating the twentieth anniversary of theFestival this summer by pulling together our ‘GreatestHits’ – inviting back the very best cars and motorcycles, drivers and riders that have appeared at Goodwoodover the past two decades, along with some newsurprises too.

I look forward to welcoming you along to our not-to-be-missed anniversary party and the biggestGoodwood Festival of Speed yet.

Each September the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit recreates thegolden era of its glorious heyday, bringing together the most historicallysignificant, priceless machines, along with legendary drivers from past andpresent. It is the only event of its kind to be staged entirely in the 1940s,50s and 60s, and a unique opportunity to leave the modern world behindto revel in the glamour and allure of the post-war years, at the world’smost authentic motor circuit.

The 2013 annual driver tribute will pay homage to the double-worldchampion racing legend Jim Clark, as well as celebrating significantanniversaries, including 50 years since the development of the Ford GT40,and the 100th running of the Tour de France. A homage to the popularGoodwood Nine Hours will also be held with a 90-minute race into thedusk, and the Settrington Cup race for Austin J40 pedal cars will be backby popular demand.

Page 27: Motorsport Design Leaflet 2013

The Goodwood Revival is widely regarded as theworld’s most authentic historic motor race meeting. It is the only sporting event staged entirely to aperiod theme in which most visitors play their partby dressing in the best vintage fashions of the 1940s,50s and 60s.

Although exceptional wheel-to-wheel racing is at theheart of the Revival, it is so much more than that, withperiod machinery of all shapes and sizes, incredibleaircraft displays, live music, dancing and fashion, allhelping to create a glamorous and unique atmospherethat has to be experienced to be believed.

In September I will host the sixteenth GoodwoodRevival, and the passion to recreate this golden ageof motor sport remains as strong for me now as itwas at the first meeting in 1998. Every year, we addas many exciting new things as possible, and 2013 willbe no different, with a number of magnificentmoments, including a tribute to Scottish racing heroJim Clark, and a celebration of 50 years since thegenesis of the legendary Ford GT40.

I look forward to welcoming you to the GoodwoodMotor Circuit for this year’s Revival, for what Iknow will be another extraordinary magical stepback in time.
