Editors Letter

Our August Issue is here! August being women’s month we have decided to feature some of the

ladies from the Eastern Cape. Hopefully in future we will get a bigger response and we can make a much bigger deal of womens

month.

For our August issue we have had to make the difficult decision to only publish online due to lack of advertising to cover our printing costs. We are hoping to go back to print and the online edition for our

September issue.

Having said that this issue is our biggest and best to date and we are

proud to say that we feel we are improving and growing our

magazine every month.

Thank you to all our contributors and as usual I must thank my dad who continues to put in so much effort to help me make a success of

this magazine.

I hope everyone enjoys this one.

DO4SA Border Stock Car Association Club Race 4 July 2015

Article: Rose Collins/ Jethro SchwartzPhotos: Dean Holmes

Saturday, 4 July turned out to be another wonderful evenings

racing. The weather was kind to our 41 drivers that entered. The

track was full to capacity with supporters, the best crowd we have had in a long time and the track

was well prepared.

The Rear wheel drive class which always entertains the crowd with good close, sideways racing was

won by Franqios Hammond ahead of William Hunter in 2nd.

Raymond Smith took the final podium spot in 3rd with

Christopher Partridge in 4th ahead of Anthony Power in 5th place.

The 1660 class was well supported by the local drivers and two

Victory Raceway drivers, with the young Kean Barnard putting in an impressive performance to take

Page 9: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 9

the overall victory ahead of a hard charging Zaine Knickelbein in 2nd

and Jarryd Hurn in 3rd. Andrew van der Westhuizen finished 4th ahead of Oakley

Meyer in 5th, George Noah in 6th, Delwin Crous in 7th and Jouwert

van der Walt in 8th overall.

The 2.1 Modified class has grown into good racing over the last two

race meetings. Saturday nights racing was competitive and very close racing between Allan Hurn, Wayne Victor & Wesley Collins. Unfortunately Wesley broke down

early and Rene didn’t make the finals. This Left Allan Hurn to take victory ahead of Julian Herman in

2nd and Wayne Victor in 3rd. Jason Prinsloo was 4th ahead of

Gert Stroebel in 5th, Rene

Stroebel in 6th and Wesley Collins in 7th overall.

The Hot rod class has really become a crowd favourite of late with some really close battles that get the crowd onto their feet. Shawn, Derick and Ashley had close racing, followed closely by Dylan. Percy unfortunately had some teething problems with his new car. The overall victory went to Shawn Collins ahead of Ashley Victor in 2nd and Derick van der Westhuizen in 3rd. Percy Noah took 4th overall ahead of Dylan Victor and Jody van Zummeren in

5th and 6th overall respectively.

The Beginner class has two young ladies aged 12 and 13, with the oldest driver being 17. These

Page 10: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 10

drivers enjoy their racing and very seldom miss a race meeting.

Stephen Page drove hard to take home 1st overall ahead of a very

consistent Carla Naude who finished 2nd. Rudi Smith took home 3rd overall ahead of Amy Naude in 4th and Corbin Holloway

in 5th.

The V8 Flexi – AMS class seems to have the honour of saving the best

for last. This class almost always has the crowds hanging on the fence, with their fast and close racing. Positions for first place in each heat were changing all the

time. Ryno Hattingh took the overall honours for the nights

racing ahead of Arnold Hattingh

in 2nd and Zander Frohbus in 3rd. Sarel Hattingh took 4th place ahead

of the class’s youngest driver Clinton Green in 5th. Willem Kirsten was 6th ahead of Keith Frohbus in 7th, Gavin Frohbus Jnr in 8th and Barrie Conradie in 9th

overall.

The next race will be held on the 8th of August 2015.

These 3 young ladies are at different points in their racing careers, but it is evident when speaking to them

that there is a clear passion for Motorsport in each of them

Melindre and Cherne’ are both 3rd generation racing drivers following in the footsteps of their father Gary and Grandfather Boet Marais who are both well accomplished racing drivers. Although the pair are only in the early stages of their racing careers they have literally grown up

around the race track. One can already see they have a bright future ahead especially if you take their 1st couple performances into account.

Ashton is a 1st generation racing driver although she too has grown up around the track as she would often attend races with her dad as a

spectator. She got into karting after driving an indoor kart while on holiday in Cape Town and soon after progressed to driving in the ladies development class in East London. She was one of the first ladies in East London to drive a 125cc kart when she progressed to open karts and soon after enjoyed success when she

finished 2nd in the championship.

We wish the ladies all the best for the future.

Extreme Festival East London Grand Prix Circuit - 11 July 2015

Article: Andre De KockPhotos: Trevor Kitching

This year’s Extreme Festival motorsport tour performed in front of a large crowd at the East London

Grand Prix circuit on Saturday, with the main races producing surprising results.

The circuit, South Africa’s fastest, suited the four-cylinder,

turbocharged National Production Cars down to the

tarmac. Genuine Parts Volkswagen Golf GTI driver Charl

Smalberger took the first pole position of his career,

sharing the front row of the grid with Simon Moss (Engen Xtreme Audi

S4).

The two fought for the lead in Saturday’s opening race, until a

broken wheel caused Moss’ Audi to slide off the road, hook up and roll

exiting the East London circuit’s complex.

Page 15: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 15

Two laps later, Smalberger put a wheel on the grass in Rifle Range Sweep, the fastest point on the track. The Golf turned sideways at some 220 km/h, slid across the road and

rolled violently.

Smalberger escaped with bruises and a severe headache, but the car was

utterly destroyed.

A lap later, the Engen Xtreme Audi S4 of Michael Stephen blew its

engine.

That left Graeme Nathan (Genuine Parts VW Golf GTI) to

win, leading home Hennie Groenewald (Sasol Audi S4),

Gennaro Bonafede (Sasol Audi S4) and Michael van Rooyen

(Williams Hunt Chevrolet Cruze).

Page 16: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 16

Both the Engen Xtreme Audis were fixed, and took their places on the

grid for Race two.

This time Michael van Rooyen led throughout to win, followed by

Graeme Nathan, Simon Moss, Michael Stephen and Gennaro

Bonafede.

Nathan took another victory in the final race, chased by Hennie

Groenewald, Michael Stephen, Simon Moss and Michael van

Rooyen.

BMW 330i driver Simon Thesen, Owen Bridger in the Honda

Civic Type R and Ian Riddle BMW filled the first race podium for

older model cars.

Bridger won the second time out, ahead of Thesen and Riddle, while

Thesen took the day’s final victory from Riddle and Marais

Ellis (BMW 330i).

Page 17: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 17

The East London circuit’s long main straight favours

big-engined cars, and all three the G&H Transport Extreme

Supercar races were won by Charl Arangies in his Stradale

Lamborghini Trofeo.

On all three occasions he was followed home by Craig Jarvis

(Panacea Dodge Viper) and Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430).

Pre-event favourite Sheldon van der Linde (Champion Polo) dropped out

of the opening Engen Volkswagen Cup race after being bumped. That left Daniel Rowe (Ferodo Polo) to win from Mathew Hodges (Makapano Polo) and Shaun

la Reservee (Alpine Motors Polo).

Van der Linde returned to win race two ahead of Hodges and Chris

Shorter (Hollard Polo).

Page 18: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Veteran single-seater protagonist Robert Wolk (Ivestchem Mygale) won both the Formula 1600 Duratec races. On the first occasion he was followed home by Werner Scholtz (Motorvia Mygale) and Dewald

Brummer (MAD Mygale).

In race two, Julian van der Watt (Investchem Mygale) and Keagan

Masters (Performance Masters Mygale) filled up the podium.

Greame van Breda (Reef Supplies ZX10R) won the opening Red Square Kawasaki Masters Cup race from Kyle Robinson (Tech Group ZX10R) and Tony Klem (Frontier

Diamonds ZX10R).

Van Breda repeated the performance in race two, this time followed by

Pieter de Vos (Jongingozi Zx10R) and Kyle Robinson.

The day’s quickest lap time belonged to Thunderbike racer Daryn Upton, who won both of the Thunderbike

races on his Turn-Skill Kawasaki.

On the first occasion he led home Kyran de Lange (BMW 1000RR) and Nicholas Kershaw (Kawasaki ZX10R), and on the second Kyran de

Lange and Ian van Niekerk (Kawasaki ZX10R).

The next round of the 2015 Extreme Festival series will take place at the Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, August 8 at the Annual Sasol Race

Day.

Saturday 18 July saw Round 5 of the Border Karting Championship take place in East London. The date had been changed and then following the move of the Super GP from Port Elizabeth to East London, had been changed back to the original date resulting in some of the key players in the championship being unable to attend. The field on the day was strong though, with some newcomers entering the fray as well as the introduction of bikes on the day boosting the numbers.

Kaylim Padayache once again showed his dominance in the Cadet Class as he

claimed all 3 victories ahead of Dylan Stevens in 2nd and Jordan van der Merwe

in 3rd. The victory on the day now boosts young Kaylim into the lead of the

championship ahead of Jordan and this battle promises to go right down to the

wire this season.

In the 60cc Junior class Kenzo Barnard made an emphatic return to East London as he took victory on the day ahead of

Fellow Port Elizabeth drivers Kiesha Potgieter in 2nd and Aiden Barnard in 3rd. Sebastian Smith did some damage limitation as he finished in 4th to hang on

to his championship lead over Kiesha, although the gap has narrowed to a mere

4 points after the day’s proceedings.

Clubman’s C has become a very encouraging class. This is the entry level senior class and currently boasts being the clubs biggest class. No Less than 11 drivers entered for the day and there was

plenty of action as a result. Jono Stephens took the overall victory on the day with a good performance ahead of Neil Stephens in 2nd. Chris Peters in a 100cc kart finished 3rd to extend his narrow championship lead ahead of his nearest rival Cuan Flusk who finished 4th

overall. Kevin Vosloo took 5th overall ahead of newcomer Chris Kemp

who finished 6th in his 1st time out driving the ex Jethro Schwartz Tony kart.

Britney van der Merwe was the 1st of the ladies in 7th overall ahead of Melindre’ Marias in 8th and Cherne Marais in 9th. Damien Thompson finished 10th ahead

of Kevin Nightingale in 11th.

Clubman’s B saw Paul Berry as the only entry and as a result he cruised to an easy

overall victory.

Geoff Stephens once again proved to be unbeatable as he steered clear of the drama behind him to take the overall Clubman’s A victory. Blake Kirsten made a strong comeback after his absence at round 4 to take 2nd overall. Jarred de

Kock had his hands full as he had to fend off an aggressive Cameron “Wild Man” Kelly for 3rd place. Brent Strydom took

home 5th overall.

The Super Rok class saw Shaun Vallance take home 1st place ahead of

championship leader Richard Clark. Craig Borges was 3rd overall ahead of Ayrton Good who entered for a once off drive while on holiday from studying. Grant

Godfrey was 5th ahead of Tristan Wantenaar in 6th and Cameron Kelly

finished 7th after being disqualified in heat 1.

Wesley Jones came back from heavy damage in Heat 1 to win the DD2 class

on the day ahead of Craig Borges in 2nd and Andre Botha in 3rd. Shaun Vallance would take 4th ahead of Kyle Hart in 5th and Brent Strydom in 6th. Geoff Stephens would see his championship lead being hugely diminished after being disqualified in heat 1 and finishing 7th overall for the

day.

The Next Border Karting event will be held on the 19th of September as the Border karting National competitors

travel to Idube Raceway in KZN in August. For More information please contact the

club Chairman Joe Borges on [email protected]

Brad, you have been around the racing scene for quite a while now, tell us how

you first got involvedin the sport?

I started out in an old ford escort 1600. The great Ivor Raasch helped me to get going

with aHyperspares prepared engine and later suspension mods. Ivor was always willing

to share hisknowledge and today im helping

someone build his first race car and passing on the knowledge and

helping him as i was helped is very humbling. Feels like im passing on the

Legacy of Ivor Raasch. Healways helped others.

How many years have you been actively competing?

I started racing in 1997 so thats about 18 years of continuous racing on tar. I did 3

years of ovaltrack racing in a friends car and managed

to win the REAR WHEEL DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP in 2012. I

took a break from circuit racing in 2011 and 2012 to concentrate on oval. Returned

to circuit racing

in 2013 and still going. You have driven in various forms of

motorsport, tell us a bit more about what you have done andwhich is your favorite?

I started in Historics and has been the backbone of my career purely because i

love the cars and thecomeraderie between us Histerical drivers. Not much politics in our Historics and this

makes theracing so much fun. I have done karting in the form of 100cc stock 125cc shifter karts

which was themost fun by far and then owned a 250cc Superkart. That was the fastest thing i

have ever been in.Yes was faster than Ivors Ferrari

Testerossa and Datomaso Pantera with ford motorsport V8 engine.

That Superkart was insane and i still have my leathers. Did a bit of Drifting in my

BMW 325i road carand later inmy Black Escort Mk1. My

Favourite car has to be my white Escort Mk2 4 door. That car

was a legend in its own time and that car gave me the Nickname Broadside because

Q&A With Broadside Brad Johnson

Page 23: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 23

it was so easy toslide that car in every corner. In fact i did a qualifying session once and managed 6

laps. First 3 neatand tidy and second 3 sideways like i

always do. My slowest sideways lap was fater than my faster

neat and tidy lap. Which showed that car didnt want to go straight. Ok yes i dont

mean shoeing offsideways but just turn left to turn right and vica versa haha. You going to have to

explain that one.Im currently racing a 1969 Datdun SSS P510 and it is 5 seconds a lap quicker than

the escort and issuch a pleasure to race and ultra reliable. 8 years on a engine is crazy. Show me a

Ford that doesthat hahaha.

How many championships have you won over the years and in which

categories did you win them?Only the 1 Championship in oval track in

2012. I came second the year before.Cant remember which year but Dale

Langfield and I were racing for class championship when he was

in his Capri and i in the white escort. Every

race was neck and neck and i think he got me by 2 or 3

points in the end but it was many years ago. Im currently Lying second in class and

3rd overall in the2015 Border Historic Championship as in 1 heat earlier in the season i found myself

chasing a Class Ccar with me being in Class D. I was looking for a bit more and managed to brake the

acceleratorbracket in the second heat due to my

enthusiasm haha.We remember a few of the cars you have owned and driven, which one was your

favourite and why?Definately the white Escort Mk2 4 door car

no 19. That was a legend car and it handled like a go kart

thanks to Ivor Raasch. My current Datsun sss is very close.

You have had the nickname “Broadside” for a while, and we all know and love the

way you control thecar sideways, but this has however

gotten you into a little hot water recently and we now see you –

even in the wet – working hard to keep the car in a straight line. How difficult is

Page 24: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 24

it for you and howmuch concentration does it take to break

the sideways habit? As you know Racing is about hitting your marks and being consistent. I find i carry

more cornerentry speed than most others and used to use the sideways driving style to help keep

the momentumthrough the entire corner and not just the exit. This has been my secret for many

years . Im nottalking about 2 or 3 turns on the steering sideways. But probably half to a three

quarter turn ofsideways. From outside you would have to look carefully to see if its going sideways.

We just have toconvince the marshalls that this is

“Normal” haha then hopefully i will stop wearing the black flags

out .You are one of the drivers that doesn’t race on a big budget and in so doing you

help to prove thatracing doesn’t have to be overly

expensive. What tips could you give others who would love to race, butdon’t believe racing is affordable?

In Historics we race in timed classes. I have always said whats the point of revving an

engine to thekingdom come and rebuilding it every 2 or 3 races ?there cant be much fun in that

and i think thisfrustrates people and they come and go.

Build the engine reliable. Rev it to a respectable reliable

rev but most of all enjoy it. Its such an awsome feeling that i could never explain.

Sitting in the carwaiting to hit the track is one of lifes

moments you cant get enough of. The adrenalin rush is

something else. Its addictive. In the end. You must race to as little

budget as possuble to make it sustainable. Think about it.

Rocket ships are only good for one run haha. Make it about fun. Not lap time.

I look at people that help me as Partners and not sponsors. Sponsors give things

away with nothing inreturn. With partners you are like an

extended arm to those companies. Like an embassador for

them. Look after them and their interests and they will look after you. Thats been my

Page 25: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

Motorsport EC | August 2015 | 25

philosophy. As one of the more experienced drivers around, young up and coming drivers

look at you as a rolemodel and tend to try learn things from drivers like you. What advice could you

give to drivers whoare trying to make their mark?

Leave the politics to the politicians. Treat people with respect and treat them as you

would like themto treat you. Look after people that help

you. They dont come often. But most importantly do it for

Fun. If you too serious it becomes a grind and stops being fun.

We have seen pics of you and your daughter together at the race track. Its

early days, but in youropinion do you think she is going to follow in her dads racing footsteps?

The signs are certainly there. This Farm girl just wants to ride quad and go in

Daddy’s Datsun. Solooks like i need another garage haha. I would definately support her. Racetrack is

way better thenpubs and nite life. So i will encourage it for

sure.

As a final Question, I would like to ask, what are your plans for the foreseeable

future with regardto racing?

I just want to keep being a pain in the neck to the “Toppies” in Border Historics and

also being a painto the Ford Guys. I believe we in Border Historics have the best atmosphere in all

of racing in thecountry and we need to work hard at

keeping it like that. Realyy good bunch and that keeps you

going back on its own. So i will keep going for as long as i can.

Would like to take this opertunity to thank All My Partners for supporting my racing.

Without thembeing on the track is impossible. Some have been with me for over 10 years which

is incredible. Ahuge thank you to them. Im forever

grateful.

forcing him to play catch up for the rest of the season. You can’t keep a champion down though and Wade has been steadily clawing back ground in the series standings ever

since.

Coming off a dominant performance at round 4 where he was victorious, Wade was right back in the championship hunt once again as he moved into 4th spot within striking distance of the series leader. He was looking to

further close the gap at round 5.

Wades runs in qualifying looked good as the Border Towing Skyline driver was once again in fine form. When the Qualifying results came out though we were very surprised that Wade had only qualified down in 7th spot, a bit off of his usual

Supadrift Round 5

Article: Jethro Schwartz

The weekend of the 24th to the 26th of July 2015 saw Round 5 of the National Supadrift Series take place at the Rock Raceway in JHB. The event would form part of the Gauteng Motor Show and would be would share the circuit with various other forms of motorsport over the weekend. The drifting

though has become a major attraction around South Africa and as such is a major draw card

amongst spectators.

East London’s Wade van Zummeren who is the reigning Supadrift Champion is the Eastern Cape’s only competitor currently and he attended the event. Wade had a shaky start to his title defense with mechanical difficulties ruling him out of round 1 this year and

Page 27: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

front running form.

This meant that Wade would be paired up against the 10th place qualifier Richat Kahn. Run 1 was

aborted and restarted due to technical problems. The drivers were then forced to change tires due to the abrasive nature of the circuit. The battle was called a tie and an OMT (One More Time) was declared by the judges. The officials did not allow the drivers to change tires a 2nd time and after the 1st run Wade’s tires started to fall apart. He managed to do enough though even with the lack of traction to beat Kahn and was sent through to

the top 8.

Here he would face off against Shane Gutzeit of Port Shepstone. In the 1st run against Gutzeit, wade had a mechanical failure which

lead to the power steering belt jumping off which caused his skyline to straighten up in the

middle of the run.

Unfortunately the car was virtually undrivable without the

power steering and with the damage done losing the 1st run

because of the straight-line, Wade was eliminated from the

competition.

This now leaves wade in 5th place 50 points behind the new series leader Shane Gutzeit. With 100 points available for a win and 10 points for qualifying in 1st Wade is

still within reach of the top spot.

The Next event in the Supadrift National Series will be held at the

scenic Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone on the 21st and 22nd of

August 2015.

Border 4x4 Challenge - Gulu Quarry 26 July 2015

Article: Jethro SchwartzPhotos: Jethro Schwartz

Sunday 26 July 2015 saw another round of the Border 4x4 challenge take place at the Gulu

Quarry in East London. Motorsport EC found out about the event with a bit of luck and we decided to go down and attend the event in the hopes of covering the

action.

We unfortunately have not received the results of the event as we requested, but we have some

photos to share along with our experience of the event.

After the heavy rains the day before the course was extremely

slippery adding to the difficulty factor. Spectators that lined the course needed gumboots and a keen sense of balance to get to the

best viewing points on the day.

One thing is for sure, the vehicles that are able to navigate the course the best have been seriously well put together and make even the toughest obstacles seem like a walk in the park. Having said that even the more production like vehicles

Page 29: Motorsport EC Issue 3 August 2015

are able to pull of some impressive climbs.

The only delay we experienced was when one vehicle got ¾ of the way up an obstacle before getting stuck. One of the top vehicles then

climbed the obstacle from the opposite direction and eventually pulled the stricken vehicle out. It was at this point we found out that the stricken vehicle had a problem with its brakes and with a bit of help from the other vehicle, was able to eventually get down the other side

of the incline.

In the end it was a positive experience and Motorsport EC would love to cover these events in

more detail in the future.

For the first time this year, PEOTR was exposed to a very small crowd together with distinct lack of entries in some of the classes.

As it was the annual Kirkwood Wildsfees, where the majority of

local residents flock to, the situation was no surprise.

In the Beginners class, Heidri Snyman ran very well, but could not complete the evening and failed to start in the Final. Andre van Tonder

won the Final and it has to be mentioned that this young man has a

great future ahead of him.

6 cars lined up in the Final of the 1660 class with C93, Johan Joubert, in pole. Johan won the race ahead of Hennie Steenkamp, followed by Dereck Brink in 3rd. Good exciting racing in the

class.

The 2.1 and Hot Rod classes had too few entries, so the races were

combined. Leroy Green's car was at the track, but did not race and Danie

Knoesen suffered a suspension failure. 4 cars started the Final, but only Pieter Scheepers and Grumpy Vermaak finished. Oupa Vermaak's car was damaged as well as James

Mansfield, who was left with lots of unnecessary damage to his

Modimad Golf. A race full of incidents and some unhappy drivers.

The Std V8 class was won by Sakkie Palm, who had driven very well throughout the evening. Debbie Bownes also sported a brand new Mercedes Benz. Exciting racing the

whole night.

The Super 6 class was won by Deon Els.

The AMS class was minus the Whittles, but it was good to see Pikkie Joubert back and in great form. Klayton Smith ran solidly to win the Final ahead of

Pikkie Joubert.

The next meeting at PEOTR will only

be held on 29 August as the track surface is going to be refurbished and to allow weather conditions to warm

up.

The winner of Round 5 of the National Super GP Championship held at the East London Grand Prix Circuit on 25 July 2015 was undoubtedly the rain. Following a week of exceptionally heavy rain in the province, but some sunshine on the Friday before Saturday’s race day allowed for some optimism and the event commenced according to plan. However, after the qualifying sessions in each class, it was only

the Super Juniors heat 1 that managed to complete a dry race.

The Juniors presented tight, entertaining racing with William

Friend, Kewyn Snyman and Brandon Staffen swapping the lead a number of times during the closing stages of the heat, but with Friend calculating his final corner exit perfectly, Snyman and Staffen

became involved in their own tussle, which was the confusion that Friend could only have wished for. He squeezed in a fraction of a second ahead of Snyman, whose gap ahead of Staffen was even finer.

As the wet weather moved in threateningly from the west, the decision was taken to declare the Super 600 heat a wet race, which

delayed the start to allow competitors and their teams to change to wet tyres if they wanted to. By the time the Super 600 heat 1 started, the track was wet from west to east, resulting in a number

of sliding bikes even during warm-up laps. Fortunately with conditions as wet as they were,

most of the “offs” resulted in minimal damage to machinery and most riders were able to get straight back onto their bikes and continue

racing.

Qualifying second on the grid,

Adolf Boschoff proved without a doubt that he was master of the wet

with a best lap time a good 4 seconds better than Blaze Baker, who had to call off his challenge after crashing for a third time, this

time with a broken handle bar preventing Baker from ending in

the points. Pole position man, Steven Odendaal was able to stay on rubber, but with a best lap time 5 seconds slower than Boschoff, he presented no threat to the heat 1

winner.

In the Super GP class it was current champion, Clinton Sellers, who

showed the way around a wet circuit. Sellers was able to maintain a steady pace on average about 2

seconds per lap ahead of his nearest challenger. Matthew Scholtz

finished in a creditable second place, 16 seconds behind Sellers, which gave Yamaha a clean sweep ahead of BMW-mounted Kyran de Lange, Nicholas Kershaw and

Lance Isaacs.

By this time it was clear that the weather was not going to allow any further safe riding and the event had to be called off. Those who braved the conditions to come and watch these skilled competitors in

action were certainly treated to incredible talent.
