Transportable test device: MotorTop und PumpTop

The combination of this measuring data acquisition

system with a standard Notebook or PC gives the

possibility to obtain a transportable motor or pump

test device for 1/2/3-phase power measurement, tempera-

ture measurement, the acquisition of torque and speed, FFT

analysis as well as pressure and flow.

These test devices provide all the advantages of the stationary

testing facilities and technology from „Vogelsang & Benning“

for mobile use.

A refined software concept with the necessary evaluations

and protocols means that manufacturers of electric motors

and pumps have high performance test equipment at hand.

MotorTop and PumpTop are the perfect equipment for mobile

motor and pump testing. The devices complement proven

testing technology.

Motor testing

Depending on the equipment which is available for the speci-

men supply, the following measurements are available:

• No-load characteristic curve and calculation of iron and

friction losses for AC motors acc. to IEC 60034 (version of

02-2015)

• Endurance run with automatic cyclic data storage

• Short circuit characteristic curve with calculation of the

saturation factors for current and torque

• Operating characteristic curve as a function of the shaft

power

• Torque characteristic curve as a function of the motor speed

In addition to the order-related specimen management and

the storage and archiving of all test results, comprehensive

tabular and graphic evaluations are available as documenta-

tion of the tests performed.

Furthermore, an export of measured data to Excel is also pos-

sible for other customer-specific evaluation of the data and

results.

Pump testing

The basic device is designed in terms of the hardware and

software such that it is also possible to test pumps of any de-

sign type.

• Recording of the performance curve (Q/h curve) with regres-

sion analysis

• Determination of the aggregate efficiency

Depending on the on-site conditions, such as shut-off valves

or pressure measurement points, operators of pumps can also

perform detailed on-site testing of pumps in the field. In order

to determine the hydraulic power delivered by the pump, it is

necessary to measure the pressure (suction and delivery side)

and the flow quantity.

Insofar as pressure transducers and flowmeters are installed

in the measuring section, their signals can be integrated in the

measurement. Insofar as shut-off elements are present for

flow regulation, it is possible to approach various operating

points and test these.

The measuring data acquisition system developed by

„Vogelsang & Benning“ has proven itself during use on

static motor and pump test beds over the course of

many years.

The various operating points are recorded at the touch of a

button. The electrical data (U1, U2, U3, I1, I2, I3, P1 and cos

phi) and hydraulic data (Q, H) captured are stored with each

actuation of the button.

By adjusting the shut-off element it is possible to record the

entire performance curve. A speed measurement can take

place optionally.

Following acquisition of all required measuring points, the per-

formance curve f(Q) = H or f(n) = Q is graphically displayed.

A comprehensive range of accessories is available for further

equipment of the devices, whilst connection lines for the cur-

rent and voltage measurement and clip-on current transfor-

mers complement the device equipment.

Softare

Depending on the model, the device is equipped with basic

software for motor or pump testing. Simply by increasing the

respective software extension „PumpTop” or software exten-

sion „MotorTop”, the device can easily be upgraded to the

complete solution for motor and pump testing.
