Movie Magic Budgeting 7 Definitions of Important Terms
• Allowance (Allow): A commonly used budgeting term used to indicate that although there will be an expense in a certain account, that expense is still unknown. (To “Allow” $500 means you can spend under $500 but not over $500) • Chart of Accounts: The numbering system used for the cost accounts of a particular company or studio. These include all cost accounts for a production as well as other company accounts. • Cost Account (Detail): The detail level of a production budget where information about rate and amount of time for a given item is listed. • Global: An alpha numeric symbol for a calculation or value. (This similar to “sum” in excel, but different because we build them ourselves)

B. Budget Info – Add Basic information about your budget
File ® Budget Info (Note: Any information about budget which has no place such as shooting locations,

D. Setup
• Units – This is where we can see the units that we will use in our budget.

Note: The Units are set to calculate based on 12 Hour Shoot days. If you make changes to number of hours per day, make sure you amend the Month/Week Section accordingly as they are set to calculate based on 12 hour days.
• Globals – this where you setup things which are global to your budget

• Currencies - If you have an international shoot and need to budget in multiple currencies.
Note: By default, Movie Magic works with American Dollars
Select Setup ® Currency Encode the rate for Qatari Riyals (you may refer to www.xe.com)
E. Navigating Methods
• Top Sheet - This is the first page of your budget, it includes all the categories
that your film will be using. • Account Sheet - This is where the second page of your budget which includes
more information on the specific items/positions that will be used. • Details Sheet – Details for every account

F. Adding Line Items
After setting up your Currencies, Preferences, and Globals, you can now start to encode data in Detail Level.
Þ Description: Enter the name of the person or item being used. Þ Amnt: Enter the Global you created that relates to the person/Item. Þ Units: Enter the Unit related to the person/item. Þ Rate: Enter the DAILY Rate of the person/item Þ Sum: This will be automatically calculated once you enter the previous
information.
