OK, let‘s be completely clear… we aren‘t PHYSICALLY moving (although you never actually know what Pete is actually thinking). And, to be honest, this moving day is going to be more exciting than picking up boxes and heading to a new location.
We are moving to something new different and exciting. It can't really be described. You should come see for yourself.
Moving Day is not just for committee members. It‘s for every one of us who call First UMC home and who want to make disciple of Jesus Christ...LOTS of them...and have fun doing it.
See you February 11th.
PETE‘S PLACE This is a busy church! I don't have enough time or space to write about all of the things we have going on - that's a good thing! We have lots of stuff happening. I want to briefly touch on three:
First, on January 29th @ 5:30 PM we will have a presenta-tion in the gym that you will truly enjoy. John Eldredge wrote a book Beautiful Outlaw. It's about Jesus' personality. Based on that book he produced a Live Webcast, a copy of which we have. We will be showing that on the "Big Screen" in the gym on the 29th. Nothing fancy, no food, no games just a different perspective on the "playful, disrup-tive, extravagant personality of Jesus." No heavy theology (in fact not much theology at all) just a different perspective - a fun perspective. There will be child care for all ages so come, enjoy, and then take the family out to dinner - with your friends.
Second, "Moving Day." The church is going to move. You probably should come and find out more about that. We will discuss it in detail on Sat. Feb. 11 from 9:00am to noon. Your input will be requested.
Finally, the Faith Alive Series. It is going to be special this year. Our preacher is Dr. Billy Abraham. Dr. Abraham is a professor at Perkins School of Theology. He's been there for 26 years. He is a fantastic preacher! He will preach both services Sunday morning on the 19th of Feb., again Sunday evening, then noon on Monday the 20th and again Monday evening. Once you hear him Sunday morning and experience how he brings the word of Jesus Christ to life you will not want to miss any of the other opportunities to hear him. You will leave excited and filled with the Holy Spirit. Put Feb. 19 and 20 on your calendars - you don't want to miss this.
Well, that's not all but that's enough. See you in church on Sunday.
Grace and Peace, Pete
MOVING DAY AT FUMC
God‘s grace is amazing and abundant! I experienced God‘s grace at work during the Boys‘ Chrysalis Flight #47 at our church Jan. 14-16! From the last minute applications which brought us 26 boys to the overflowing generosity of FUMC in cooking, bringing food, and being flexible with Sunday morning changes, we had an awe-some weekend just trying to keep up with all God was doing! Thanks FUMC! Thank be to God!
Another Debbie‘s Adventure was in reading John Eldredge‘s Beautiful Outlaw during my vacation. A gift for me from the book was the breath prayer, ―Lord Jesus Christ, I give you my life so you may live your life in me‖. I hope you joined us at the simulcast Jan. 29. If not, find a way to engage the enlightening and empowering person of Jesus. Order a book or download the kindle version through www.amazon.com. If you‘re interested in reading the book together in a group with me, text me at 903-243-3333or email me at [email protected].

WANT TO GROW IN FAITH DURING LENT?
Here are two great suggestions for Sunday School classes or individual exploration during the Lenten season of reflection on our following Christ. Delve into Adam Hamilton‘s 24 Hours that Changed the World which looks at Jesus‘ last hours before his death. Or try Final Words by Adam Hamil-ton to understand and live Jesus‘ words on the cross. Both of the books are kindle selections at www.amazon.com. To order from Cokesbury, call Debbie at 903-885-2185.

All fathers and father-figures are invited to take their daugh-ters to the third annual Father-Daughter Dance. This is a wonderful opportunity for a father to take his daughter out for a special night before she reaches dating age and show her how she deserves to be treated. Tickets are $20 per father or father-figure (whether he has 1 daughter or 5), and include a photo, a DJ‘d dance, refreshments, and raffle priz-es! Tickets can be purchased from any MCC member or at the door.

Wednesdays are Wonderful Again! Join us each Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 for a fun-filled night of music, crafts, missions, and more!
In addition to choir and Mis-sion Possible Kids, our elemen-tary age kids are working on a spring musical entitled ―Sermon on the Mound,‖ a baseball-themed show that teaches important lessons about the armor of God and that every player is important on God‘s team. Mark your calendars now! The musical will be Wednesday, May 9th, following the Senior Scholarship cookout.
We will continue to do about 1 mission a month. In Feb-ruary we are making valen-tines to send to children in area hospitals, and in March we will visit a nursing home. Wear your MPKids shirt each time, so people will know we‘re on a mission!
Our preschoolers will continue to explore their Sunday school lesson on Wednesday nights through stories, crafts, music and more. It is our desire that these important les-sons be written on our children‘s hearts. To help make this a reality, we will spend more time on one weekly theme, rather than introducing a new theme every Sunday and Wednesday.
We still need your help! If you are available to be the pre-school assistant from 6:00-8:00 (every week or every oth-er week), or if you can lead the preschool choir from 6:00-6:30, please let Adrienne know as soon as possible. You don‘t have to be a fantastic singer to be the preschool choir leader, or be able to play an instrument—we have CDs! You just need to be willing to spend a little bit of time playing with the kids through music.
CHURCH MAILBOX Tom and I would like to say a very big THANKS to everyone who helped out this past weekend for the Chrysalis flight. The food you purchased was eaten; those who helped cook were wonderful; and the desserts were fantastic. We are so very blessed to have such a wonderful Church family that responds when a need arises. There were several churches in the Northeast Texas Emmaus Community that also helped by contributing drinks, snacks, and other food items. A very special thanks for Virginia Massey for her help. The Chrysalis was a tremendous suc-cess with 26 young men participating.
De Colores, Tom & Debbie Young To the staff and members of First United Methodist Church, Sulphur Springs, I would like to bestow my ex-treme thanks for your support and the lending of your campus for NET Chrysalis Flight 47. 26 young men found Christ or renewed their relationship with him over the weekend and many stated they wish they could have stayed there. For those of you that know what Chrysalis/Emmaus is, you know the feeling. If you don't know ask about going on a Walk/Flight!! The campus was amazing, fit our needs perfectly and with your permission of course, we would love to come back and host another one there. If you see Tom Young, Dave Graves, Pastor Debbie, or Sweet Lew please give them a handshake, pat on the back or loving hug for all they did for us this weekend. Jarred Cowley also stepped up to the plate towards the end of trying to get this whole thing going. I know he changed the lives of these 26 young men by showing them what living a Christ-like life looks like. You have an amazing pastoral staff and members of your congregation, any of whom I would be honored to work with in the future. In short, thanks for your generosity of time and space during what was a life changing event for these young men.
A humbled servant, Doug Shook Lay Director Flight 47
FATHER-SON 2012 The 2nd, 3rd & 4th Grade Boys Sunday School class will be having their annual Father-Son weekend March 3-4. Be watching the mail for additional information.

CSR 2012 . . . Awesome!!
What a great 12th Annual Community Student Retreat (CSR) we had last weekend! The youth from FUMC joined with the youth from Shannon Oaks Church, Davis St. Baptist Church, and St. James Catholic Church for an amazing weekend of worship and retreat . . . and fun! It was quite the ecumenical gathering.
I wanted to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to David Larkin, Jenna Davis, Kiffer & Kate Davis, and of course Lane Doughtie, for all their time and leadership and participation. We couldn‘t do things like this without adults like you.
And on a side note . . . how really cool it is for me to have and to see ―adults‖ who used to be the youth at this very event come back and be the leaders for the next genera-tion. It warms my heart and gives me such confidence in the future of our church. So thanks again for a great re-treat.
SnS Starting Back Up I know it seems like forever since our last Sunday Night Study. But wait no longer; we‘re back at it starting Febru-ary 12th. Exact times and places will be announced.

Here we go...
The new year is moving at it‘s typical pace. Zoom! I know most of you feel that way. We go from hurry to hurry up fast-er almost everyday. Whew!
I think most of us subscribe to the ‗I‘d rather wear out than rust out‘ philosophy. In light of that...
I want to send you my first of the year encouragement to come make the Sanctuary Choir a part of your ministry to the church. Not a singer? Maybe you would enjoy playing in the bell choir. Perhaps you might consider helping with the ever expanding children‘s choir program. Kudos to Adrienne and the kids!
February 26th is the first Sunday in Lent this year.
Easter is April the 8th. We will be performing a Passion Can-tata on Sunday morning, April 1st.
Rehearsals for this cantata will begin Wednesday, February 15th. Please come join us for this moving musical remem-brance of Christ‘s walk to His sacrifice for our redemption.
Hope to see you in the choir room. We have a place for you.
The best is yet to come Carol

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AT FUMC
First impressions are important. We want our guests to feel welcome at First United Methodist Church. Help us do that by volunteering as a greeter in one of these areas:
Family Life Center—East & West Doors Open doors, greet & direct, escort guests
West Rear Entrance Door Open doors, greet & direct, escort guests
Welcome Center Attendants Answer questions, provide information, escort
guests
Connection Team Member People in this position will connect & visit in the Sanctuary with people waiting for the ser-vice to begin and after the service is over.
Training will be February 11th at 12:30 pm in the Good News Classroom with a light lunch served.
If you are willing to participate please contact the church office and make plans to attend the training session on Feb-ruary 11th.
The Dinner Bell at
First United Methodist Church The Dinner Bell is a new ministry at FUMC to help provide a hot meal every Wednesday for any person in need. Our first lunch will be February 1 in the Fellowship Hall. Guest Speaker: Dr. Billy Abraham Dr. William J. Abraham was born in Belfast in 1947. Having studied at Queen's University, Belfast and Asbury Theological Seminary, Abraham received a doctoral degree in philosophy from Oxford. He then went on to serve as a Methodist minister in Ireland and on the faculty at Seattle Pacific University before becoming Professor of Philosophy of Religion at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist Uni-versity in Dallas from 1985 to 1995. In 1995 he was appointed to the Albert Cook Outler Professor of Wesley Studies at Perkins, working as a philosophical and systematic theologian.
Among his many honors, Abraham was the recipient of a grant from the Pew Evangelical Scholars Pro-gram and the Lilly Foundation. He preaches and lectures extensively in the US, Europe and central Asia.
Abraham and his wife of 29 years, Muriel, have three children, Timothy, Siobhan, and Shaun. Although they still own a house in Belfast, he and his wife live in Carrolton, Texas, and attend Highland Park Unit-ed Methodist Church in Dallas
The McGrede families dedicate this preaching series in loving memory of their parents, Henry C. & Novie McGrede, who through their lives, left a rich heritage not only to their children, but to their church and community.
