Suitable child seats are those which meetthe ECE 44-03 or ECE 44-04 standards.Check the local regulations and lawsgoverning the compulsory use of childseats.

Ensure that the child seat to be fitted iscompatible with the type of vehicle.Ensure the fitting position of the child seatis correct. Only allow children to get in andout of the vehicle on the opposite sidefrom the traffic. When the child seat is notbeing used, attach it with a seatbelt orremove it from the vehicle.

Note

Do not stick objects on child seats and donot cover them with other material.

Child seats which have been restrained inan accident must be replaced.

In addition, it may be necessary to replacethe steering wheel, the facia, trim parts, door seals, door handles and seats.

Do not make any modifications to theairbag system as this may invalidate thehomolgation of the vehicle.

When the airbag is deployed, burninggases may escape from it and causeburns.

Frontal airbag system

The frontal airbag system is made up ofan airbag, one in the steering wheel. Itcan be identified by the inscriptionAIRBAG.

As well as a heating and ventilationsystem, the air conditioning offers thefollowing functions :

■ Cooling■ Recycling air

The air condtioning system cools anddehumidifies the air as long as the outsideair temperature is slightly above freezing.

Condensation may form and result in water dripping under the under the vehicle. If no cooling pr dehuminification are desired, switch off the air conditioning to sav fuel.

In warm and very humid ambient airconditions, the windscreen can steam upon the outside when cold air is sent to it.If the screen mists up on the outside, switch on the front wipers.

Driving and use

Never drive with the engine switched off. Many of the systems will no longer work in these conditions (ex. ABS, power assistedsteering). Driving like this constitutes a danger to you and other road users.

During the first few journeys, do not break sharply if it is not essential. During the first journey, smoke may form because of wax and oil evaporating from the exhaust system. Park the vehicle in the open air for a period after the first trip and avoid breathing in the fumes. During the running-in period, do not ex-ceed 4500 revs per minute during the first few months of regular use.

In order to prevent the pedal from sticking, the area under the pedals should not be covered with a mat.

ABS Failure

Manual gearbox :

Do not use the accelerator.Briefly turn the key to position 3 andrelease : the starter will be activatedautomatically with a slight delay untilthe engine is running. Before restarting or to turn off the, turn the key back to position 0.

The antilock braking system (ABS) pre-vents the wheels from locking. As soon as a wheel starts to lock, the ABS modulates the braking pressure of the offending wheel so that the vehicle can still be steered, even in the event of emergency braking. The ABS control can be felt by the pulsation of the brake pedal and the noise of the control process. In order to obtain optimum braking, push the pedal down as hard as possible as long as the braking lasts in spite of the vibrations of the brake pedal.

Starting a vehicle in low temperatures.Starting the engine without additionalwarming up is possible up to -30 °C forpetrol engines. It is simply necessary to choose an engine oil with suitable viscosity, use the correct fuel, carry out recommended services and have acharged battery.

Starting the engine

Exhaust fumes

Antilock Braking System

The exhaust emission contain co-lourless and odorless but nonetheless harmful carbon monoxide. Danger of death in the event of inhalation. If exhaust fumes enter the passengercompartment, open the windows. Have the cause of the fault repairedimmediately by a garage. Avoid drivingwith the boot open, as exhaust fumescould enter the vehicle.

In the event of an ABS failure, thewheels will have a tendency to lockduring sharp braking. The advantages of ABS are no longer available. During sharp braking the vehicle can no lon-ger be guided and may skid.Have the cause of the problemimmediately repaired by a garage.

Condition of tyres, condition of rims

Cross obstacles with sharp edges slowly and if possible at a right angle. Driving over rough edges can damage tyresand rims.Do not crush a tyre up against a curb when parking. Regularly check the state of the tyres. In the event of abnormal damage or wear, contact a garage.

Tyres

Tyre dimensions: 225/45 R 18 95W

Winter tyres

Winter tyres improve safety when driving in temperatures below 7°C and should there-fore be fitted to all of the wheels.Dimensions of winter tyres: 225/45 R 18 95V

Descrptions of tyres

For example :

225/45 R 18 95W225 = Width of tyres in mm

45 = Ratio of the section (tyre height over tyre width) in %

• R = Type de carcass : Radial

• 18 = Diameter of the wheels in inches

• 95 = Index of load capcity, for• example : 95 corresponds to 690 kg

• W = Speed code• Q = up to 160 km/h• S = up to 180 km/h• T = up to 190 km/h• H = up to 210 km/h• V = up to 240 km/h• W = up to 270 km/h

Tyre pressure Tread depth

Change of size of wheels and tyres

Check the tyre pressure (when cold) atleast once a fortnight and before eachlong journey. Do not forget the spare tyre.Unscrew the valve cap.

Check the tread depth regularly.

For safety reasons, tyres must be replaced once the tread is down to a depth of 2-3 mm (4 mm for winter tyres).

For safety reasons it is recommendedthat the tread depth on a same axle do not vary by more than 2 mm.

The position of the wear indicators isindicated by markings on the sides of thetyre.

If the wear is more significant at the frontthan at the rear, swap the front andrear wheels.

Ensure that the direction of rotationof the tyres is the same.

Tyres get old even if they are not driven. We recommend that you replace thetyres every 6 years.

The minimum tread depth leagallyauthorised (1,6 mm) has been reached when the profile is worn down to the wear mark (TWI = Tread Wear Indicator).

The directions on the inflation pressure ofthe tyres are in the door frame of the Front right door.

Insufficient inflation can causeconsiderable heating up of the tyreas well as internal damage causing thesurface to peel off and even potentially atyre to blow out at high speed.

The used of tyres or wheels whichAre not suitable may causeaccidents and bring about the loss ofhomologation of the vehicle. Thisvehicle was designed for a single typeof tyre.Unsuitable tyres may cause a suddendeflation and therefore anaccident.

Engine oil

Engine oil is identified by its quality and itsviscosity. When it comes to choosing anengine oil to use, the most importantfeature is the viscosity. The quality of theoil guarantees for example the cleanlinessof the engine, protection against wear andthe control of the aging of the oil, while theclass of viscosity defines the flow capacityof the oil at a certain range oftemperatures.

Engine oil top-ups

The engine oils of different brands anddifferent producers may be mixed as longas you respect the quality and viscosity ofengine oil required.

Additional engine oil additives

The use of additional additives to engineoil may cause damage and renders thewarranty void.

Classes of engine oil viscosity

The SAE class of viscosity defines theflow capacity of an oil. Multi-grade oil isrepresented by two figures, for example,SAE 0W-30.

The first figure followed by a W, indicatesthe viscosity at low temperature and thesecond figure, the viscosity at hifhtemperature.

MPM Motors recommends that you useengine oil type : 0W-30

Cooling liquid and antifreeze

Use only long-life (LLC) antifreeze forcooling liquid without silicates.

The system has been filled in the factorywith a cooling liquid which providesexcellent protection against corrosion andagainst freezing up to around -20 °C.

This concentration should be maintained all year round.

The use of additional additives for thecooling liquid which claim to offer extraprotection agains corrosion or ensuresealing in the event of small leaks mayproduce problems with functionning.

We decline all responsibility as to theconsequences linked to the use of extraadditives in the cooling liquid.

Brake/ clutch fluid

Only use high performance brake fluidhomologated for this vehicle.

Contact a garage.

Over time, the brake fluid absorbsdampness, which reduces the brakingefficiency.

Brake fluid must therefore bereplaced at the specified intervals.

Brake fluid must be stored in a sealedrecipient to prevent it from absorbinghumidity.

Ensure that the brake fluid is not contami-nated.
