Mr. Deconstruction Deconstruct (\dē-kən-strəkt\): to take apart or examine in order to reveal the basis or composition of often with the intention of exposing biases, flaws, or inconsistencies; the analytic examination of something (as a theory) often in order to reveal its inadequacy. Mr. Deconstruction is a really helpful guy, He looks at things the way they are and asks the question why. He points out flaws that might just cause the thing to fall apart, And helps me see just what could be if something new would start. We need his criticisms, to be blessed by what he knows, And without his visitation, hardly anybody grows. Sure sometimes he’s a little loud or maybe not the best, And sometimes it just might be nice if he would take a rest. But he’s a necessary person on a team of any size, Yes, Mr. Deconstruction is a really helpful guy. But something strange begins to happen when he stays too long, He can start to get too cranky and fuss that everything is wrong. He can plant himself inside your house and eat up all the goods, Burdening you with a bunch of guilty “oughts” and “shoulds.” Suddenly it seems that all the blessings now are gone, And the things that you once celebrated lose their joyous song. ‘Cause in the midst of lavish sunshine, he points out all the gray And no matter how you do it, he always has a better way. I guess what I am saying is be careful with your friend, Like I said, he is important, as a means to an end. So please be cautious, watch yourself, because you might just find, That he’ll overstay his welcome, and he’ll infiltrate your mind. Then you’ll find that all his values have become your own, And suddenly you’ve built your own Deconstruction throne. And the very man whose purpose was to help you on your way, Becomes the stealer of the blessings that were meant for you today. Don’t totally avoid him, there’s no need to be afraid, Because he isn’t pointless—so much good from him is made. But the story’s so much bigger, in fact he’s just a tiny part, Of the story of the One who’s building up a work of art. It’s a work that’s good because of Who is making all things new, When even Mr. D will celebrate with me and you.
