Mrs Dale’s Tearoom Menu 2018

Who’s Mrs Dale?

Little Moreton Hall is so iconically Tudor, it is easy to forget that this building has a 500 year history as a home. From 1881 to 1908, Ann Dale lived in this part of the building with her family, so we thought this was a fitting space to share images of the Hall’s more recent history with you.

The National trust has been awarded the “Food for Life Catering Mark” by the Soil Association. We have achieved the Bronze award, ensuring food is freshly prepared, ethically sourced and free from trans fats and other nasties. We prepare our food fresh to order for you, so we really appreciate your patience during busy periods. Thank you. If you require any information on allergens please ask a member of the catering team who will be happy to assist you in your choices. As ever, we do our best to cater for your specific needs, so if what you’re looking for is not available please do ask.

The Dale Family Album

Ann Dale was mother to a brood of 14. Joseph Henry (the gentleman on the left) took over the tenancy when, at the age of 70, Ann decided she could no longer run the farm. The others are Jessie (left), Minnie (right) and Charlie (right) .

We think the young woman peeping round the tearoom door is either Emily or Maggie. Kathleen Dale (below) re-called how they carried milk to the dairy (now the ladies loos) and salted pigs here in the Tearoom during World War 2.

Welcome to the 16th ‘Scent-ury’

Close your eyes, take a deep breath and

picture Little Moreton Hall during the Tudor

era.

What did you imagine? People in historical

outfits, the hustle and bustle of a family and

their servants? Did you think about how it

would have smelt?

Smell was important to the Tudors as it

could bring you closer to God, help you to

tell good from bad and even cure disease by

protecting you from bad air and evil

miasmas.

This year as you explore the hall, discover

some of the smells the Moretons would

have experienced and find out why air and

excretion were so important to the Tudors.

Two of these farm workers, employed by Joseph, lived in one of the rooms above us. When the Hall first welcomed visitors, the Dales took the entrance fee and served tea & rounds of bread and jam in what is now the Great Parlour.
