Review• What is the addition relationship

to subtraction?– Subtraction is the addition in reverse,

or you can add the answer by the lower number to check your problem!

• What does regrouping mean in subtraction?– When you regroup in a subtraction

problem you borrow 10 from the tens place, and add it to the ones place,

Look at it this way

We have two sides that we are working with…..

TENS ONES

Page 5: Mrs Elisha Noe Subtraction With Double Digits On Top On Bottom

What is first? What is next?

1. I always start with my one’s place when subtracting.

2. I have to make sure that I can subtract the bottom number from the top number.

3. If I can, I can go ahead and subtract.4. If I cannot I must REGROUP and

borrow ten from the TENS place.5. Then I add that ten to my ONE’S

place
