This is a summary of the memorable speech our Vice President,

Julie Anne Reguindin, gave to begin our Valentine’s Day Celebration:

"What I did for Love!" This is the DAY OF LOVE. Today we celebrate hearts, passion, kisses, flowers and music -- in other words LOVE. We Filipinos are people who love. We believe in love. We show

our love. For every event that we enjoy there are people who show their love, by planning, by cooking, by decorating, selling tickets, hosting, performing, dancing, and a host of others activities that make all of these things possible. The songs

says, "What I did for Love!" We acknowledge the many hands and hearts that make FIL-AM successful and change the song into "What they do for

Love!" In the eternal words of the Bible, "The greatest of these is LOVE .."

Page 2 A Note From the President

It is an honor and privilege to begin the 2nd term of this administration with high hope and inspiration to

further the goals and mission of our dear Fil-Am Association. The energy and enthusiasm of the new set

of Officers and Board of Directors plus the appointed Officers serve as a signal to all the members to

keep abreast of all the events that have happened and will yet happen in our very bright future.

The Induction of Officers and Board of Directors – On January 14 there was a strong indication of

UNITY in our Fil-Am community. I am humbled by the trust, love, patience and support you have given

so freely during the past two years. I know that with this continuing dedication and commitment even

more great things can be done for our association.

On February 11, the annual Valentine’s Party was a huge success. Our Vice President, Julie Anne

Reguindin, gave a memorable speech “What I Did For Love”. Love songs and dancing were in the air,

a capacity attendance, and great food made for an evening where everybody had a great time.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Romie Torio, our Mr. & Mrs. Valentine.

The Philippine Festival/Fiesta Filipino – February 25 -- coincided with the 20th Anniversary of the

Fil-Am Community Center. This first-ever event was held at the Pensacola Interstate Fairground. It will

long be considered as one of the highlights in the history of the Fil-Am Association of Pensacola. It was a

day of fun filled with laughter, joy, camaraderie, unity enjoined with the whole family. The program

which started at 11 am and ended at 6 pm featured our highly capable Diony Magno -- the program &

event coordinator & Emil Cruz – a dynamic personality from Tampa as emcees. The day was

packed with all the cultural dances and singing from different organizations in Pensacola, Fort Walton

Beach, Panama City, Crestview and of course our very own, Fil-Am Cultural & Line Dancers alternating

with the Battle of the Bands coordinated by Dr. Guy Heath.

The presence of the Philippine Embassy Consulate On Wheels drew crowds from the neighboring

states, cities & counties to avail themselves of different legal services. There were about 300 passport

renewals processed. More than 50 who participated in Oath-Taking for dual citizenship – a large number

of authentication and notarization issues were addressed, as well as questions and answers concerning

legal problems. This was the first time here in Pensacola and we will do it again sometimes next year.

Sheryn Regis in Concert – the featured headliner for the Festival was enthusiastically enjoyed by the

audience. Standing ovations, photo opportunities, and autographs, signaled that the Festival crowd was

extremely pleased and in awe of her performance.

There were lots of door prizes from Event Sponsors like The Filipino Channel, DirecTV, GHL Cargo,

One Philippines and Navy Federal Credit Union. The Association of Philippine Physicians of the Florida

Panhandle shared their professionalism by conducting health screening.

For those of you who missed it, we will be doing it again and make it sure that you will be there!!!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors, vendors, performers for your participation.

My salute goes to Mr. Diony Magno, Dr. Guy Heath, Emil Cruz, Fil-Am Officers

and Board, all the Committee Members, all the volunteers for a job well done.

But most especially to all of you who supported and give us the inspiration to

make this event possible.

Mabuhay ang Filipino and God bless us all!!!
