You will study drama for five

Create your own performance

from scratch and write a log of before, during and

after the process.

Perform a published play

to an examiner and learn all about the play and the

person who wrote it (playwright).

Study a published play

and visit the theatre to watch a live show; write about both in an exam.

In Year 10, you will need to visit the theatre and write about a play you have seen (in exam-style conditions). You will be asked to: -

particular moments in the play

what was happening, using drama terms

what particular moments were trying to achieve (the intended effect)

whether you thought the actor/ designer achieved their intention (in your opinion)

We would like you to watch one of the production you can find online. These will be: -

Alternatively… If you cannot access the internet, write about a play you have seen in the past. This could be a play you have seen in school, at the theatre or as a digital recording.

If this is not possible…You can write about a film you like. Please bear in mind, however, that this will help you identify design and acting without live production skills (this would be the last option)

Task: Write a response to one of these productions. Here is a format of what this might look like…

Introduction – the 5Ws- What is the play called?- When was it performed?- Where was it performed?- Who does it star and who is the director/ designer (you can find this information in the end credits of

the play/ film)?- Why was it made? What is about and what ideas/ conflict/ issues/ topic does it address? Is it a play

set in the 1940s about war, for example?

Then…

Pick THREE SCENES/ MOMENTS in the play that you liked. Write a paragraph for each scene/ moment you choose. Use this structure as a guide: -1. Where does the scene take place (describe)?

2. What is happening in the scene (explain)?

3. How are the actors telling a story? What are they trying to show us, as an audience? How do they do this? What skills do they use? Do they alter their voices, movement or behave in a certain way with other actors (in character) on stage? Are there any particular props/ costume ideas/ set that was effective in helping your enjoyment? Give examples!

4. Was it done well? Was it successful?? Why? If you didn’t think it was successfully, why? What could they have done better?
